Why do we need creeds? Is there any value in creeds? If so, what is the value of creeds?

I'd say creeds summarize Christian truth. They are also helpful to help us guard against heresy and error.

I think creeds are very valuable and the loss of them in great swaths of the church has led to the mish mash of teachings we have today.

The creeds tie the doctrines of the Bible, theology, sorterology etc. together in unity. It keeps the foundation solid, is a teaching tool for even the children and a way of assessing their understanding and faith and where help is needed. They set boundaries for church discipline and a basis for accountability for pastors, deacons etc. They are invaluable as a teaching tool for the flock and help to equip the saints to recognize wolves in sheep's clothing, false teaching, and to contend for the faith.

Of the Apostle's creed, J.I.Packer said: If life is a journey, then the million-word long Holy Bible is the large-scale map with everything in it, and the hundred-word Apostle's creed .......... is the simplified road map.
R.C. Sproul said: It boldly declares that there is truth that is foundational to life. a truth that cannot be compromised without the peril of falling into the abyss of meaninglessness.

Creeds and catechisms are helpful for instruction and testing, as long as they stick to what is foundational and are thoroughly scriptural.

I agree. The purpose of the creeds was to unify the 'universal church' of their time era against heresies. If you never studied ancient Christianity heresies, then more than likely, you would never understand the creeds.

"No one who examines the Chalcedonian creed against the background of the christological controversies which preceded it can charge it with attempting to define the person of Jesus Christ or to force the inexpressible into conceptual forms." (A Short History of Christian Doctrine, by Bernhard Lohse).

The purpose of the Chalcedonian Creed was to re-examine and to re-assert the Council of Ephesus against both Eutyches and Nestorius. They emphasize a great deal on Christ's humanity especially against Monophysitism (two nature emerge into one nature that was completely divine only) which was the view of Eutyches. But the Council was more focus on the relationship between the two natures. For instance, the terms "inconfusedly" and "unchangeably" was defined to refute Eutychianism. Also, the terms "indivisibly" and "inseparably" were defined to refute Nestorisnism. If you ever taken the time to study out what Eutyches and Nestorius meant behind the two natures. Then you would understand why those four terms was defined and mention in the Chalcedonian Creed:

"...to be acknowledged in two natures, inconfusedly, unchangeably, indivisibly, inseparably; the distinction of natures being by no means taken away by the union, but rather the property of each nature being preserved,..."

The word of God unites His church.

Creeds are doctrines of men. (private interpretation.) Every man has one. The Bible is the one exclusive source of Christ's faith

Catholicism would have creeds having the same value of God living word and by doing so violate the warning not to add or subtract from the perfect .

This is a good reason why the Christian Church need creeds.

Weird talks like this that no one understands. Praise God for creeds.

Your personal choice of creeds as a private interpretation? Which one from which nation? Which time period? By whose authority ?

2 Peter 1:20-21King James Version Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

I am not promoting a battle of weirdness. Every one like finger prints have their own In that way God makes us differ from one another Just like earthly families . to show God his personalization as two walking together . One seen empowered by the other not seen . the invisible head Christ our husband.

Weird talks like that of Jesus who without parables spoke not hiding the gospel understanding from unbelieving mankind ?

Parables as prophecy a valuable tool Some turn the revealing of mystery of the will of God into nice bedtime stories for little children.

Parables can become confusing just as designed. He give us the proper prescription t o rightly divide or interpret (2 Corinthian 4:18)

Parables are designed to teach us how to walk by faith the unseen understanding of our invisible God . God purposely hiding his spiritual unseen understanding from the lost making it know to his children of light

A good example in Luke 9 . There Jesus the prophet declared in whole serous of parables one right after another again and again

.Again to teach the apostles how to understand the unseen things of God. faith . Over and over he hid the understanding .

At one point the disciples were so confused they decided to take a vote on "who is the greatest"( Alfa dog ) . They must of thought the weirdo friend Jesus went of the deep end . In the end of the matter (verse55) The father gave words to jesus to rebuke them and revealed they knew not what manner of spirit they were of "earthly" of the father flies

Jesus own family must of thought he was a weirdo .I think the most misunderstood person the ever walked on earth . The reason for the shortest verse ."Jesus wept" at the understanding of faithless mankind . The most comforted by the Holy Father weirdo that ever walked

I would offer be careful how we hear who we say we do .

Perhaps look to what the weird Bible thumpers are bringing. How beautiful are their feet shod with the gospel of peace

The Chalcedonian Creed is a reflection of Scriptures.

The Hypostatic Union is a Divine Mystery or the Mystery of the Faith to the Church “the mystery of God, namely, Christ,” (Colossians 2:2). This mystery is not an intellectual puzzle or a contradiction. Nor is it an outgrowth of speculation. But it’s a revelation that was made known unto the Church. You know, the first two centuries the Christians and the Church was being persecuted which delay them from articulating the revelation of the Trinity and Hypostatic Union doctrines. Then in 313 AD, the Emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan, which granted Christianity legal status. Couple years later the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. As many years continue to go Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire when Emperor Theodosius I issued the Edict of Thessalonica in 380. At that time the Church was going through its susceptible defense against Christological heresies of debates, more councils like Chalcedon in 451 AD, and creeds in order to unify the Church.

I am not promoting a battle of weirdness.

I would assume that English is not your first language. It would be nice if you knew basic Christian history, and both Trinity and Hypostatic Union doctrines. This way we could have a discussion. But your knowledge is lacking so badly that I usually avoid your posts.

All private interpretations hopefully reflect the gospel. Study the original seeking the approval of our invisible head . . the counterfeit is revealed.

Hypostatic coined in 1590 is simply "place of authority" having nothing to do with dying flesh and blood no authority no power .

Mysteries of faith are parable as prophecy they teach us how to walk by faith the unseen eternal things of God

They mysteries of His Faith. The exclusive faith that can say to a mountain "cast your self into the sea" . Faith that can cast sin as far as east is from west .Powerful faith working in us never of us dying mankind

Hypostatic coined in 1590

It was coin by Cyril of Alexandria

For the Word of God, as we have said already, was made hypostatically one in flesh, yet he is God of all and he rules all; but he is not the slave of himself, nor his own Lord. (a snip from the letter of Cyril to Nestorius)

You can also read the whole letter in both Council of Ephesus and Chalcedon.

What does one in the flesh mean to you?

What does one in the flesh mean to you?

The phrase "one in the flesh" emphasizes that Jesus Christ, the Son, took on human nature and became incarnate. He became one with humanity by taking on a human body (flesh).

Acts 2:42

BASIL THE GREAT
“Of the dogmas and messages preserved in the Church, some we possess from written teaching and others we receive from the tradition of the apostles, handed on to us in mystery. In respect to piety, both are of the same force. No one will contradict any of these, no one, at any rate, who is even moderately versed in matters ecclesiastical. Indeed, were we to try to reject unwritten customs as having no great authority, we would unwittingly injure the gospel in its vitals; or rather, we would reduce [Christian] message to a mere term” (The Holy Spirit 27:66 [A.D. 375]).

EPIPHANIUS OF SALAMIS
“It is needful also to make use of tradition, for not everything can be gotten from sacred Scripture. The holy apostles handed down some things in the scriptures, other things in tradition” (Medicine Chest Against All Heresies 61:6 [A.D. 375]).

Acts 2:42

Thanks

Believers must be careful how we hear who we say we hear Satan is quick to snatch the seed (sola scriptura()

There is no defense against the armor of God the living abiding word (sola scriptura)

Acts 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Apostles' doctrine.. . . . . the doctrines of God that fall like rain (sola scriptura) Not earthly inspired of the devil

Adding new meaning to the word apostle "sent messenger" .into highly venerable dying sinners, reigning over the faith non venerable. Thee
Big eternal difference .Day and night, light and darkness

Seems you forgot the teaching...below not think of the apostles dying mankind above that which is written (sola scriptura)

The Bible defines the word of God (not the apostles messenger ) and the usage read carefully and prayerfully

1 Corinthian 4:6-7 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure (a parable) transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men(the apostles) above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up (venerate )for one against another. For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received

A witness found in the previous chapter ?

1 Corinthian 4-7 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?I have planted, The born again seed of the word)Apollos watered; ( the water of the word) but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing,(nothing neither he that watereth;(nothing) but God that giveth the increase.

Apostles are as nothing. God the infalible interpreter alone (Let there be)causes a increase if any

Why mankind would desire to make apostle (messenger beautiful feet) . into some sort a Holy religious word Highly exulted ?

Every time my wife sends her little apostle Mr GLee on a dangerous mission to the supermarket with a list as commands not to add or subtract form or you will surely when you get home, you receive no home made crunchy peanut butter cookies . They were delicious

Why as it seems make a mockery of the word "apostle" and call it rightly dividing

.As it is written, each man receives his own reward. Just as those who call sola scriptura a heresy. receive thier reward . A strong delusion from God (2 Thessalonians) so they can beleive the lie

Why violate our invisible Holy Father's law not to change the meaning of one word it can change the authority of all the commandments

Deuteronomy 4:1-2King James Version4 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you. Ye shall not add unto the word (singular) which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it (singular) , that ye may keep the commandments (plural) of the Lord your God which I command you.

Another similar law at the end of the book of prophecy sealed with 7 seal till the end of time .

Both working perfectly together to protect the integrity of one author , our invisible Holy Father

And you'd be wholly correct to answer the questions that way.

The creeds developed when few people could read and few among those that could read had Bibles. Creeds summarized the basic precepts of Christ's teachings and Christianity so that the less learned could learn and know sound doctrine. The creeds provided a uniform knowledge and understanding so that 100 million people didn't have 100 million different ideas and imagine 100 million different gods. The creeds provided a common vernacular for discussion of one's personal understanding and experience.

Jesus the Son of man dying flesh and blood. The believers "brother in the lord" is not ashamed to call the new family of God. . brothers sisters and mother as the one bride .

Believers are lovingly commanded to call no man on earth (dying mankind) Holy Father, Holy See, Prince of the Apostles . Vicar Chris, Pope e.t.c

Two witnesses working as one.

Matthew 12:50For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Mark 3:35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
