Saved by Grace doesn't mean our works don't matter. Ephesian's over all context screams this.

The following text in Ephesians is to often ripped out of context to imply it doesn't matter what we do because we are saved by grace.

Eph 2:8.9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Ephesians 2, verse 10. It says we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus, for good works, which God had before ordain that we should walk in. The fact that verse 10 starts with the word “for” Lets us know what is about to be said is the reason for what was just said. So the reason why It is not of works that we do is because we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God preordained that we should walk in. That we should be holy and without fault before Him in love. Eph. 1:4
Ephesians 4:24, says in context to us, being his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, that we are to put on the new man which, after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Then in context to us being his workmanship, and putting on the new man created in Christ Jesus, in righteousness and true holiness verse 25 in chapter 4 starts with the word wherefore. This shows us that there is a contingency or condition in respect to us, having put on the new man which, according to God, was created in righteousness and true holiness. It says for us to put off speaking falsehood. And that we are to speak truth with our neighbor, because we are one with one another. That when angry, we are not to sin and let the sun go down on our wrath. Giving no place for the devil. Then in verse 29 in relation to the quote above, it says, let no corrupt communication come out of our mouth. But only that which is good and edifying in respect to other people’s needs.
Then continuing, and in the same context, chapter 5 starts with be therefore imitators of God, and walk in love. Not letting fornication,uncleanness and covetousness be named among us but be as saints. For this, we know that no fornicator or unclean person or cuffs, who is an idolator has any inheritance in the kingdom of God and his Christ.
Be not deceived. Because of these things comes the wrath of God. Because they are disobedient. BE not partakers with them.

I think the same can be said concerning The Book of Titus.

Christians are saved not by works of righteousness (Titus 3:5).

But notice throughout the emphasis on the works of the believer.
1. A pattern of good works (2:7).
2. Zealous for good works (2:14).
3. Ready for every good work (3:1).
4. Maintain good works (3:8).
5. Maintain good works (3:14).

Hello HIM, like @Carbon just mentioned above, who is saying such things, specifically? Please point us to their posts (because I'd like to see what you are talking about). Thanks!

As far as our being "saved by grace" goes, the fact that this is how the Bible says that we are saved (by God's UN-merited favor towards us, that is) tells us that our works have nothing to do with our coming to saving faith, nor with our being justified/saved by God.

IOW, our works are the RESULT of our salvation, NOT the cause. That said, our works are an important part of our ongoing "sanctification"/of our growing up in Him/in Christlikeness throughout the balance of our lives here.

As the little passage from Ephesians tells us,

Ephesians 2
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for/unto good works (not because of them), which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Perhaps this is what you meant in the OP? It seemed like it might be, but I wanted to be sure ;)

God bless you!!

--Papa Smurf

Romans 4
4 To the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due.
5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness.
Romans 11
6 If it is by grace, then it is no longer on the basis of works. Otherwise, grace would no longer be grace.
.

We are saved by grace alone through faith for good works. So, if we truly believe, then we will work/act in a certain way. James 2:28 says, "You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone."

Salvation and works!

John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Matthew 10:38
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Matthew 16:24
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Not “Faith Alone”!

Phil 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

1 Peter 4:1
Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

The like kind of Christ is not to say as many do: I’m am saved, there is nothing more to do!

In Psalms 119:29-30, he wanted to put false ways far from him, for God to be gracious to him by teaching him to obey His law, and he chose the way of faithfulness by setting it before him, so this has always been the one and only way of salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. It is not the case that we earn our salvation as the result of our obedience to God's law as if it could be earn as a wage, but rather the experience of living in obedience to God's law is intrinsically part of the content of God's gift of salvation.

What does the title mean when it says, "works don't matter"?

Ephesians 2:10
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

We (those in Christ) are created for good works. Works are the purpose of our salvation, not the means of our salvation. God planned works for those He saves to perform. Those works were planned by God before the person was saved. Having been saved by grace through faith those pre-planned works then become the "for," the purpose for our salvation. God saves a person, creates them in Christ, and having saved a person creates them in Christ so they will perform the pre-planned works.

Philippians 2:12-13
So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

The saved person is God's workmanship. He creates the saved person in Christ for preplanned works. It is God who works in us to will and to do His good pleasure.

I'm curious: who do you know that says "works don't matter"?

Eph 2:8 does not mean salvation but only a part of salvation; ((redemption)) first step in the process of salvation

Notice: it’s past tense already accomplished does not refer to your accepting christ it says not “of yourselves”!

That's some really lousy —and I'd have to say, even ignorant— reasoning.

1. If we are not saved there is every reason to pursue Christ, and that, with all your heart. The fear that accompanies disobedience is a huge motivator to obey. And who is there that can claim to love God with all their being, and to love their neighbor as themself?

2. For the saved, there is no end of desire to do what is right. The saved are not complete until we see him as he is —but we are driven by desire for Him and his fellowship; we are driven by who we are.

3. God accomplishes most of what he does by the most mundane, even 'natural', means. As those who are alive IN HIM we do as he does in us. For it is God who works in you both to will and to do according to His purposes.

Agreed, and of course! Except that the physical baptism is not causal in anyone's salvation.

I believe so, because of the witness of the Spirit to my spirt.

Regeneration by the Spirit of God. Grace through faith. I believe, supernaturally.

Yep.
Can you be saved with a priest?
By means of an RCC or some other religion's or denomination's priest's office? No, not a all. Not even a little bit.
