This should help let me know if you need more scriptures saying the same thing that thet are literal 24 hour days just like our work week.

Exodus 20:11
11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Exodus 31:12-17
12 Then the Lord said to Moses, 13 "Say to the Israelites, 'You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.14 "'Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it must be put to death; whoever does any work on that day must be cut off from his people. 15 For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. 16 The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. 17 It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested.'"

Exodus 16:26
Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the sabbath, there will be none.ā€

Hebrews 4:4
For somewhere He has spoken about the seventh day in this manner: "And on the seventh day God rested from all His works."

In Genesis 1 the word for day which is qualified by a number and the phrase ā€œevening and morningā€ and for Day 1 the words light and darkness it means an ordinary day (a 24 hour period of time). Itā€™s the same meaning today for a 24 hour period of time. Every time we read in Scripture the word day followed by a number, day and night or evening and morning in means a literal 24 hour period.
Did you forget the word is YOM?

This word is insisted to mean 24 hours. Check it out.

@civic

But keep one thing in mind. though Yom is one of the YEC best arguments, it is translated 72 times (from my old notes on this) as a period of time.

And just so you know, I am not telling you you are wrong.

If nothing else, I have learned I am not always right when it comes to God's word.

Read all the verses that are saying the same thing about 6 days- I gave 1/2 dozen of them

Not when yom is combined with a number or evening and morning as it means a literal day each and every time. It is.

Im not a fan of Wesley either.

I won't tell you your wrong in this, I don't know that you are. You may be right. I doubt it though ......šŸ˜šŸ˜„šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜€
I can tell you that you are wrong on this :)

And I highly doubt we are wrong :)

I have spent a hot few months studying this and on and off since then. I will look through the passages (thank you) I may see something new. When I have the time, presently I am studying Ephesians (for bible study at church) and the types and shadows of Christ in the sacrificial system.

But I really do appreciate you and your desire

Yes, of course

Uh, oh sorry I dozed for a sec.

Along with many others who say I'm wrong but can't show it.

My pastor is a YEC and I can't wait to bring that up one day.

I said when Adam and Eve ate, the plants they ate died. I said nothing about the Tree of life.

Also, I would say eating and not eating would cause death. Do you agree?
eating plants does not cause death. I pinch off basil leaves from the plant all the time to make pesto and the plant stays alive and gives me more leaves to eat. :)

God called the light Day and the darkness night. How then can the light be God himself?
Thanks for the question, @Sereni-tea :)

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Of course, we know that the Light of early creation was not the sun since the sun was not created until the fourth day. Hereā€™s how Jesus explains:

John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world: he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

I believe God was making a distinction between good and evil on that very first day.

John 1:4-5 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

The part that's in your hand don't die?

Me thinks you're carrying it too far now. I'm used to that too though. :)

Hmmm ... I am not sure how that fits into the text. Is this how the orginial audience would have understood it?
In any case I think we are both in agreement that nothing material was created on the first day.

Yes, I agree that yom means normal 24 hour day.
I think OECs are in error when they try to make yom mean something else, like eons, etc.
On the other hand I think YECs make other errors when they flatten out the text and place too much emphasis on the time.

Genesis 1 is a work of art and tells us so much in a short space of time. But we need to read it in its literary and cultural context which is vastly different to our own. For the ancients, something didn't exist until it had a function. Genesis 1 is about God ordering the cosmos for his purposes, not about material creation. There is no science here, which means we are free to use science - a good tool that God has given us to study His universe - to try to work out how and when. Science of couse cannot answer the why questions - that is what the Bible tells us.

The word Yom is translated many times as a period of time, not only a 24-hour period.
