No, it is a teacher to those who submit to the Holy Spirit's work in them. A call is an active initiative of God's. I am still pondering the difference between being called and chosen. Perhaps that is really what we are talking about rather than two types of calls. I especially find it difficult to view God as calling anyone while intending to not give them the grace needed to answer that call.Fair enough, but the Bible says Nature speaks to us about God's existence. But there's no need to quibble over it...
Would you say then that the Law of God is a Call?
Now if we look at Judas, He was called and chosen and yet was a devil. There are many questions I still have but ultimately I trust God even if I do not have an answer.
I struggled in my Arminian Christianity between Grace and works for years. I finally chose Grace and yet lived a reprobate lifestyle laying the reigns of my life on the neck of my lust. I hurt many innocent people while calling myself a Christian. The Lord began revealing me to myself and yet I was unable to stop the debauchery. I suppressed it on the outside but it roared like a furnace on the inside. Frankly, I lived the life of a sinner while claiming to be saved by Grace. I used rationalization to defend myself against my conscience.
I even blamed God for my condition, after all, He did not take the sin from me even though I prayed every day he would. Then He came and burned my religion to the Ground. My mother became ill and I prayed for her life day and night. I was convinced she would be healed and even prepared little signs to post on her hospital bed so that God would be praised. I promised God everything if He would heal her and I came to firmly believe He was going to. But on a cold February day 4 days after my birthday, she breathed her last. I was insane with grief. There was no God! It was all a lie.
I remember going down to a lonely spot in the river and standing there wondering what was next and as real as real can be a giant hole seemed to open up in the water about 6 feet from me. It was the blackest hole with white vapor streaming down into it from around the sides. It seemed to suck my very spirit from me. Immediately the words, "Will you leave also?" came into my mind as if they were spoken aloud. The moment of my choice had arrived. A life without God or one with him?
At that moment I said, "Lord, no, for who else has the words of life." When I opened my eyes, the river was flowing normally and the tricolored blackbirds were chirring in the rushes. A muskrat swam across where the hole had been. All was calm. From that point on I surrendered myself to Jesus to do His will and His good pleasure in me. I gave my debauchery, sinful lifestyle and self-centeredness to Him and He has been cleaning me up ever since. The only force from Him is the force of love. There is no reason that He should love me, but He does. At every juncture of His magnificent work in me, He does nothing unless I submit it to Him. Truly, as James stated, If I submit myself unto God and I resist the devil, he will flee from me.
Sorry for the long post. I did not plan to share this and I am not sure why I did except may it be to God's Glory.
