What is the doctrine of Eternal Security?

That is the Christian sacrament of baptism “water and the spirit”
Jn 3:5 ez 36:25-27

John baptized with water only for repentance
What is the water in John 3:5? Amniotic fluid? That water?
Does the water represent the Holy Spirit? That is do the two words express the same thing?
Is the water H2O?

How do you know the answer you choose is the correct answer?

In fact, the fact we are saved by grace is evidence in support of eternal security! It is salvation by grace through faith and not of ourselves. Yes, we must abide in him, but if God is responsible for His salvation, then the person He saves will abide in His Son.

The use of John 15:1-5 is a good prooftext (as opposed to inappropriate proof-texting) but those few verses cannot be made to contradict all else that the passage says or all else that the Bible as a whole says on the matter. We can select only the verses we like about having to abide and say God's grace is weak or not guaranteed to be effective in the end. It's curious an appeal to abiding in him was made but verses 6-10 were left out. The fact is there is nothing in those 10 verses that can be read to contradict Jesus telling his Father he lost none of those given to him, or the aforementioned point of being saved by grace, or the assurance of 1 Corinthians 3's declaration a person building on the foundation of Christ will be saved, even if what he builds on that foundation is later lost - all of it. It's also worth noting John 15 was spoken to Jews in pre-Calvary conditions when the Law was the measure of abiding.

Galatians 3:10-13
For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law and do them.” Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us...

Christians do not abide by the Law we abide in Christ, and we do so by grace, not works of the flesh. The anointing we received in Christ abides in us (1 Jn. 2:27). His anointing teaches us to abide in him, and abiding in him we have confidence that when he appears we will not shame him (1 Jn. 2:28).

2 John 1:9
Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.

God said it. Not Calvinists. If you don't abide in him then you don't have God. Anyone who does not have God was not saved in the first place. God doesn't save a person by grace and then abandon His own grace. It's as I said before: God does not fail and neither does God make worthless the price He paid - the life of His own Son. The blood of Christ is never worthless. It can serve more than one purpose, though. It both saves and condemns. It saves those in him, those justified and sanctified by his blood and not condemned by it. Alternatively, those who do not call upon the name of Christ stand condemned already - they have always been condemned, and condemned for that reason (John 3:18).

Romans 8:1-8
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

John 15:1-10 cannot be pitted against any of the above. The minute we say salvation is by grace through faith and it is NOT of ourselves - it's a gift of God's - we must conclude the matter of eternal security is in God's hands, not our own. Salvation is by grace through faith, not salvation by grace plus works. Works are the purpose of salvation, not the means of securing it.

Ephesians 2:10
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

His workmanship. Not our own workmanship. It is God who works in us, the saints, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. The doctrine of eternal security teaches we can believe the promise of God to that effect: He will finish what He started, and nothing can prevent The Almighty from doing so.
Eph 2:8 does not say salvation!

Baptism not required.

John 3;16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Note:
The verse doesn't say....For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him and is baptized in water shall not perish but have eternal life.
But it do say believes, and baptism is part of what must be believed, included in the Christian faith!

And as member of this site I believe you must accept the Nicene Creed!

Which includes: …one baptism for the forgiveness of sin…

Eph 2:1 quickend or brought to life of grace
Eph 2:5 quickend
Jn 10:10 life! And more abundantly
Jn 1:16-17 grace / life
Jn 14:6 Christ is our life

Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

A few questions brother

I think the bold should of ended with conclusion of the matter who walk not after the flesh,(dying mankind) but after the Spirit.(living God )

Read
slowly and carefully, Its the eternal living word of God, it judges us and strengthens us to do the good and perfect will of our Holy Father in heaven He alone knows the thoughts and intends of each man heart and draws them by the power of his faithful living word the gospel of salavtion. The invisible head Christ

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

Is there suffering after death?

How much grace is need to quicken a soul ?

Is His grace sufficient to pay the full price of "the salvation of our soul" or only for the Queen mother of heaven you must call Mary, named after our sister in the lord , Mary .

Is sufferings in limbo a condemnation as in no condemnation?

If you follow Christ you must believe his word! Lk 10:16
His words or the oral tradition of dying mankind?

Follow LIke with Peter ?

John 2123-25 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

As pointed out..no mention of baptism in second part.

From Got Questions...
Mark 16:16 does not say a believer must be baptized. The verse states a fact about baptized believers (they will be saved), but it says exactly nothing about believers who have not been baptized.
The one specific condition required for salvation is stated in the second part of Mark 16:16: “Whoever does not believe will be condemned.” In essence, Jesus has given both the positive condition of belief (whoever believes will be saved) and the negative condition of unbelief (whoever does not believe will be condemned). Therefore, we can say with absolute certainty that belief is the requirement for salvation.
Fortunately got questions aint the church we must hear, Matt 18:17 and Baptism is a requirement for salvation!

Faith and baptism:

Mk 16:16 says both are required as does Matt 28:19 Jn 3;5 Titus 3:5 acts 2:38 acts 8:36-38 1 cor 12:13 gal 3:27

The Christian sacrament* of baptismal regeneration is required for the new covenant and salvation!

*this promise acts 2:38-39 is a sacred oath from God ez 36:25-27 and a sacred oath is a sacrament!

Initiation!!!

Faith & Baptism is the initiation of the new and eternal covenant!

You cannot enter on you’re own or by “faith alone”!

You cannot receive Christ or grace by “faith alone”!

“Accept Christ as you’re personal lord and savior” is fundamentalist tradition not found scripture!

Jn 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

2 pet 1: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Baptismal regeneration a new creation in Christ! 2 Cor 5:17

A sacrament is an oath! A sacred promise from God! Ez 36:25-27
Acts 2:38-39 (this promise)

No baptism no grace!
No union with God and His saints thru Christ the mediator!

A sacrament is an outward sign for all men including infants And a gift from God to help us see what he does inwardly and invisibly by his grace!

As grace Washes our souls in the merits of Jesus blood from original and personal sin, so the outward action of washing is visible!

without the outward action the inward action cannot take place!

Jn 3:5 Titus 3:5 water and washing
acts 22:16 wash away your sin!

Jn 3:5 Born again BY water and the spirit! Not by “faith alone”!

They did not go to Jerusalem and preach “accept Christ as you’re personal Lord and savior “

They went to the river (water) and they baptized! Jn 3:22

A covenant requires an outward sign of the inward action of grace!

Ez 36:25 I will sprinkle you with clean water and you shall be made white as snow.

Acts 22:16 washing away your sins.

Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism.

1 pet 3:21 baptism saves you.

You cannot enter on you’re own or by faith alone! Jn 3:5

2 pet 1: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Heb 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

Baptism!

God breathed life into Adam, gen 2:7 and we received this life from our fathers!

Christ breathed on the apostles our spiritual fathers, we receive the new covenant life of God’s grace from them thru faith & baptism! Jn 20:21-23 Mk 16:16 acts 8:36-38 eph 2

Born again! Born from above!

'The Father has set his seal' on Christ (John 6:27) and also seals us in him (cf. 2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:23, 4:30). Because this seal indicates the indelible effect of the anointing with the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of Baptism,

Baptism indeed is the seal of eternal life." 87 The faithful Christian who I has "kept the seal" until the end, remaining faithful to the demands of his Baptism, will be able to depart this life "marked with the sign of faith," 88 with his baptismal faith, in expectation of the blessed vision of God - the consummation of faith - and in the hope of resurrection.

St. Paul tells the faithful at Ephesus that they have been “sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.” This is in terms of an indelible character imprinted on the soul in the sacraments of baptism and confirmation. It is not as if this invisible mark is simply decorative. Rather, through it, we are enabled to participate in Christ’s mission and in his offices of priest, prophet, and king. Eph 1:13

Sealed by God eph 1:13 sealed by God (ez 36:25-27) in the ark of salvation by baptism just as Noah was sealed by God in the ark of the flood gen 7:16

1 Pet 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us!
(Ark of Noah a type of the church, member of Christ and his church and salvation by baptism!)
(Outside the ark of Noah none were saved, outside the church (the ark of salvation) none are saved!)

Sealed in the ark, sealed in the church the ark of salvation by God thru baptism!

Christ instituted the holy church to teach and sanctify all men unto eternal salvation. (repent and believe the gospel) with the institution of the sacraments to convey grace to sanctify souls!
Matt 28:19

Only James 2:24 a man is justified by works and not by “faith alone”

2 Peter 1:11
For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Christian sacrament of baptism is the Initiation into the new covenant and must be ministered to you by the apostles!

Why don’t it say one teeny tiny little act of “faith alone”???

When we first believed we are saved?

Romans 13:11
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

How can salvation be nearer than when we first believed if you’re saved by believing?

What happens if you accept the faith...Jesus...in a foxhole on a battlefield...then die in battle prior to being baptized???
Obviously if something is not possible then it’s not required but if you survive and can easily be baptized and rejected it then your lost!

Just like baptized infants can’t repent and have nothing to repent of but still receive the grace of baptism. Acts 2:38-39

If it’s truly not possible then is not required

Eph 2:8 does not say salvation!
hmmmm....

No? Then what does it say?

NAS
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God...

ESV

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God...

KJV

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God...

BLB

For by grace you are saved through faith, and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God...

NET

For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God...

NIV

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God...

The Greek word used for "saved" is "sesomenoi," which means to save, heal, preserve, and/or rescue (G982). It is the same word (different conjugation) James uses when he wrote,

James 5:20
My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you strays from the truth and someone turns him back, let him know that the one who has turned a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

And the same word the angel of the LORD used when he assured Jesus' earthly father,

Matthew 1:19-21
And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a Son; and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save His people from their sins."

And Jesus used the word when he said,

Mark 8:35
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.
.
Eph 2:8 does not say salvation!
ummmm..... okay.

What does it say?

Ephesians 1:1-8, 13-14
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us...... In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.

The whole letter is about salvation, but you think by the time Paul is on what we call the second chapter, Eph. 2:8 does not say salvation. It clearly, explicitly states "saved." Is that "saved" not salvation from sin, death and wrath?

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God...

What does it say?

I don't believe the owner of this site believes that statement.

If they do I would imagine it refers to the baptism of the Holy Spirit or/and fire.

We know it isn't "water baptism" as demonstrated multiple time in the book of Acts written by Luke by the mentioning of people saved PRIOR to water baptism.

Faith and baptism

To reject faith they are lost!
To reject baptism they are lost!

If both are required the rejection of only one disqualified them!

That is the Christian sacrament of baptism “water and the spirit”

Jn 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
From Got Questions..
The other perspective is that “born of water” refers to spiritual cleansing and that Nicodemus would have naturally understood it that way. According to this view, “born of water” and “born of the Spirit” are different ways of saying the same thing, once metaphorically and once literally. Jesus’ words “born of water and the Spirit” describe different aspects of the same spiritual birth, or of what it means to be “born again.” So, when Jesus told Nicodemus that he must “be born of water,” He was referring to his need for spiritual cleansing. Throughout the Old Testament, water is used figuratively of spiritual cleansing. For example, Ezekiel 36:25 says, “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities” (see also Numbers 19:17–19; and Psalm 51:2, 7). Nicodemus, a teacher of the law, would surely have been familiar with the concept of physical water representing spiritual purification.

I presented the concept in post 161 above.

Redemption!

Eph 2:8

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

eph 2:8 does not refer to you’re salvation it’s already past tense when Paul wrote it so it refers something that has already occurred, the redemption accomplished by Christ apart from our involvement. “Not of yourselves”

Christian faith includes baptism Jn 3:5 by water and the spirit and not faith alone. Mk 16:16 acts 2:38 acts 8:26 Titus 3:5 1 pet 3:20-21

And charity 1 cor 13:2 and 1 cor 13/13

Redemption!

If baptism were a requirement for salvation there would not be the "piecemeal approximation" that you present via snippets from scripture.
If baptism were a requirement for salvation the bible would include a chapter written by one inspired by the Holy Spirit explaining what happens during water baptism as well as how to perform water baptism.

Should a person be immersed in water....once or is a "triple" baptism of immersion in water required?

Is baptism conducted by sprinkling holy water onto someone's head which is called baptism by aspersion?

Should baptism performed by pouring water onto someone's head which is called baptism by affusion?

Is dipping a finger in water then making sign of cross on ones forehead the correct method of baptism?

I've seen all methods performed. Once again, if baptism is a requirement for salvation then why don't the bible explain how to baptize?

Why does the bible say in 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin......and water is not mentioned?

Are you trusting in water to wash away sins or the blood of Christ Jesus shed on the cross?
