Praying for the unsaved?

Amen!

I was thinking this earlier. If the Mormon Mitt Romney had become President, @brightfame52 would refuse to pray the President come to the Knowledge of the Truth and be Saved?! That's what Saint Paul did for King Agrippa...

To me, there is no Debate at all. Pray for All to be Saved...

B52, don't let your good Doctrine of Calvinism leave you Hyper. What? Are you afraid if you pray for the Reprobate, you will be like Saint Paul; THE Calvinist?

@Rockerduck
My prayer is that God will save His elect, it doesnt matter who it is.

Yes, I pray for the unsaved; however, we should pray according to the Bible. We can pray for what God has said he will do (e.g. convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment to come); we can also pray for what God tells us to do (witness with holy boldness, according to his word); we can pray for God to fulfil his promises (e.g. for all his beloved elect to come to repentance), etc..
Its okay to pray for the unsaved or unconverted elect, for their Salvation has been predetermined by God, so we pray according to Gods will

I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Romans 9:1-5.

A believer should have a burden for the lost.

Its really simple, Pray that Gods will be done, its Gods will that His elect be saved, but the non elect it His will for them to be damned.
Is it easier for you if you just avoid the subject? Then, go right ahead.

Dont understand you. There was a world Jesus didnt pray for Jn 17:9 thats the reprobate world. On the other hand there is a world that Jesus prayed for Jn 17:9,20 His Sheep
John 17 makes no mention of a reprobate world nor sheep.

I'm a bit confused, in post #2, you quoted me and then responded. Then above, in post #36 it looks like you are responding first and then the quote. Am I correct?
I'm also confused; are you asking about the layout of a post?
a) quote then response
compared to:
b) response then quote

Im speaking about the subject. Pray for the unsaved elect, that God will save them, dont pray for the unsaved reprobate, as Jesus exemplified. He prays for the unsaved elect here Jn 17:20

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
He didnt pray for the unsaved non elect here Jn 17:9
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

Agrippa wasn't Elect, he died unsaved; nevertheless his Salvation was prayed for. This should have worked on you...

Carry on...
Why are you so fascinated with agrippa ? He was either elect or non elect

John 17 makes no mention of a reprobate world nor sheep.
Not to you, I see the ones Jesus not praying for as not being His Sheep, and the Ones He prayed for as being His Sheep. I dont understand Jn 17 according to how you see and understand things, please believe it.

Romans 9:1-5.

A believer should have a burden for the lost.
The Lost elect should be a believers burden, that God will have mercy on them. Paul isn't praying for them that He knows are vessels of wrath fitted for destruction, which he sets forth a few verses later Rom 9:20-23

20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

Now do you think Paul is praying for the salvation of the vessels of wrath fitted for destruction, or the ones that are vessels of mercy afore prepared for Glory, no doubt by election.

Where does the Bible say that someone prayed for Agrippa's salvation? I don't see it.

Acts 26:27-29 (Webster)
27 King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.
28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
29 And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

If you are referring to the expression "...I would to God...", then here is its meaning:

Robertson's Word Pictures

I would to God (ευξαιμην αν τω θεω). Conclusion of fourth-class condition (optative with αν), undetermined with less likelihood, the so-called potential optative (Robertson, Grammar, p. 1021). Polite and courteous wish (first aorist middle optative of ευχομα).

If you are going by the NIV, or something similar, the I recommend using something reliable instead.

I couldn't conceive of a Christian parent that did not pray for their unsaved children and their own unsaved parents. My unsaved brother went into the hospital for kidney disease, my wife and I went and prayed for him. He went home the next day. Months later back in the hospital again. He looked bad this time, they called the family in. My wife and I prayed for him. He went home the next day. 6 months later he died, but his daughter said he changed alot. I pray that meant God opened his heart before he died.

James 5:16 - Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much

The Moravian Church under Zinzendorf prayed for the unsaved for 100 yrs 24hrs a day.
