Praying for the unsaved?

@donadams the post above should read 'see post #95'

Its really simple, Pray that Gods will be done, its Gods will that His elect be saved, but the non elect it His will for them to be damned.
Agreed

I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Romans 9:1-5.

A believer should have a burden for the lost.
I must retract this post.

I believe I was wrong when I posted this.

This is Paul discussing, and his burden over his fellow countrymen. It has nothing to do with the context of the burden of the lost.

Matter of fact, I do not think there is a verse or passage that teaches a burden for the lost.

Im speaking about the subject. Pray for the unsaved elect, that God will save them, dont pray for the unsaved reprobate, as Jesus exemplified. He prays for the unsaved elect here Jn 17:20

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
He didnt pray for the unsaved non elect here Jn 17:9
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
I can not argue against that.

Believers dont know who the elect are nor the reprobate. Now if one comes to faith in Christ, they were elect, if one never comes to faith they were of the reprobate. Also an elect may hear the gospel in 2015 and reject it, then in 2022 they hear it and receive it, so we cant judge one reprobate because they reject the gospel, it may not be Gods time for them to believe, however, until that time I would consider them a christian brother or sister without them believing the gospel.
Agreed

Could you elaborate a little on the last part (in red)?
I don't understand how you would know they were one of the elect until they came to faith...just as you stated in your 2nd sentence above.

Jesus, being fully God/fully man would have known who the unsaved non elect were. We don't have that ability.

Romans 9:2-3 NASB95
that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart. [3] For I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh,

Sounds like Paul had a burden for his lost brethren, the Jews here in Rom 9.

In post #92, you said 'Jesus didn't pray for the nonelect, and we should follow His example, you said nothing about praying 'the Lord's will be done'.

Or are you saying we shouldn't pray at all for the unsaved, and instead say 'the Lord's will be done'?
Pray as Jesus did, He said He didnt pray for everyone in the world, but them the Father gave Him and the ones that shall believe on Him, its simple

How would we know beforehand who will believe and who won't?

That should be "I would not consider them a Brother of Sister in the Lord until they believe the truth of the Gospel"

You dont. The Lords will does, pray for the Lords will to be done in that matter.

I dont need to have the ability, Jesus knows.
