The 2 Natures in Christ

You sir are a respectable student of the word your understanding baffled me as I kept reading and I am not just giving you praise here not many have spoken to me so deeply with their understanding of the word and of God's person. I am keeping an eye on you.
Just compare whatever I say with scripture like a good Berean. :)

Just compare whatever I say with scripture like a good Berean. :)
I would say the scriptures are already written on your heart you could speak your heart and I guarantee it somehow will trigger something in someone leading them and bringing to memory the things in scripture.

In my early years as a young believer in the 80's we went through all the Navigators study guides and Campus Crusade for Christ materials which had a heavy emphasis on Scripture memory and daily reading/studying scripture. It became a part of my daily life and and routine. I shared this with our mens Thursday morning discipleship group on the topic.

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.

paideia: the rearing of a child, training, discipline

Original Word:
παιδεία, ας, ἡ
Definition: the rearing of a child, training, discipline
Usage: discipline; training and education of children, hence: instruction; chastisement, correction. properly, instruction that trains someone to reach full development (maturity) tutorage, i.e. Education or training; by implication, disciplinary correction -- chastening, chastisement, instruction, nurture.

2 Timothy 2:15
Be diligent
to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

spoudazó: to make haste, hence to give diligence

Original Word:
σπουδάζω
Definition: to make haste, to give diligence
Usage: I hasten, am eager, am zealous.properly, be swift (go fast, be speedy); (figuratively) to move speedily by showing full diligence (fully applying oneself); acting fervently (speedy commitment) to accomplish all that God assigns through faith

2 Timothy 1:7- For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

sóphronismos: self-control

Original Word:
σωφρονισμός, οῦ, ὁ
Definition: self-control
Usage: self-control, self-discipline, prudence, sound mind. behavior that "fits" a situation, i.e. aptly acting out God's will by doing what He calls sound reasoning

Romans 15:4- For everything that was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”

The Word of God is alive because God is a living God (Hebrews 3:12). Jesus said, “The very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63).

Jesus compared God’s Word to seed (Matthew 13:1–23). Seed, like the Word, is a living organism that, when spread and planted in fertile soil, produces abundant life, a fruitful life that is evident for all to see, unlike the unfruitful Fig Tree that Jesus cursed in Mark 11:14.

The New birth comes from the Word. Christians are made alive spiritually and eternally because we are “born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God” (1 Peter 1:23)

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ (Romans 10:17)

There is no other book in all creation that is living, alive, transforms the heart permanently. The term active in Hebrews 4:12 means “effective, powerful, producing or capable of producing an intended result.” The Word of God is vibrant, dynamic, energizing, and productive. It is not static or idle in the lives of genuine believers. The apostle Paul explained that the Word of God is “at work in you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

The author of Hebrews described the Word of God as “sharper than any double-edged sword.” Paul called it “the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” (Ephesians 6:17) It is the only offensive weapon in the armor for the believer. Jesus used the word of God to refute satan in the temptation in the wilderness. We have the same access as believers to the word of God, the word of truth to combat sin and our enemy.

2 Peter 1:19
We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

Psalm 119:11- Thy Word have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin against Thee. Delight to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my heart (Psalm 40:8) But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (Psalm 1:2) This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1:8)

Memorizing Scripture and hiding in our hearts can give us victory over sin. Cultivating meditation on Gods word is transforming. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2) and like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation (1 Peter 2:2) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.(Colossians 3:16)Gods word applied to our lives causes our growth as believers, followers of Christ who are His disciples.

And all of this is exactly how the word of God is supposed to be used not to throw at each other or to use in debates with all the constant arguing and seperation of denomination but when the word of God is used for the purpose you have rightly spoken it unifies us all regardless of denomination creed doctrine it doesn't matter the power of the living word when used correctly defies reality.

Good good stuff what an awesome thread

From the Reformed Belgic Confession of Faith Article 19- the Union and distinction of the 2 Natures in the Person of Christ

Article 19: Of the union and distinction of the two Natures in the person of Christ.

We believe that by this conception, the person of the Son is inseparably united and connected with the human nature; so that there are not two Sons of God, nor two persons, but two natures united in one single person: yet, that each nature retains its own distinct properties. As then the divine nature hath always remained uncreated, without beginning of days or end of life, filling heaven and earth: so also hath the human nature not lostits properties, but remained a creature, having beginning of days, being a finite nature, and retaining all the properties of a realbody. And though he hath by his resurrection given immortality to the same, nevertheless he hath not changed the reality of his human nature; for as much as our salvation and resurrection also depend on the reality of his body. But these two natures are so closely united in one person, that they were not separated even by his death. Therefore that which he, when dying, commended into the hands of his Father, was a real human spirit, departing from his body. But in the meantime the divine nature always remained united with the human, even when he lay in the grave. And the Godhead did not cease to be in him, any more than it did whenhe was an infant, though it did not so clearly manifest itself for a while. Wherefore we confess, that he is very God, and very Man: very God by his power to conquer death; and veryman that he might die for us according to the infirmity of his flesh.

On Jesus being both 100% God and 100% man simultaneously. Thus coequal.
Please bear with me.

Based on John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
In the beginning- The un-created Creator- the unmoved Mover - The continuous Being who goes infinitely beyond our comprehension no matter how far back our minds can take us has existed as the Logos (The Word). He who never had a beginning continuously existed.

As Immanuel this amazing title given to Jesus describes that He represents all that God is. The second person of the Trinity is God and the ultimate representation of all that is God. Everything God is-is always revealed revealed through Him (Jesus). What is so wonderful and beyond amazing is that the eternal God who has eternally existed describes Jesus in His nature and essence to us that He is God.

This Jesus/Immanuel who walked through the streets of Israel is and was the Word who became a human being and miraculously lived among us.

Let us remember that He was directly born and begotten from God the Father through the seed of a woman not through the seed of a broken depraved man that is why He is called the Son of God yet He has always been God. Therefore He (Jesus) could be the complete expression of God's grace and truth, which could only be in our favor. For this eternal second person of the godhead to become a human being demonstrates total humility as He chose to put aside His glory in heaven to come and live among us so that we could know Him personally.

In order for to comprehend Him the Triune God always expresses himself through Jesus outwardly so by seeing Him we also see the Father in Word and deed. The point is we could never learn anything about God without Jesus. Via Jesus coming in the flesh reveals the invisible God by becoming one of us. His human nature had a beginning but He has always existed because God is the Father of his human nature. Hence the coequal Son of God born in human flesh is 100% man-100% God. Therefore the Son of God began when God the Father begot a human son through a human mother. The second person of the Trinity is not the son. The Son is the human nature begotten through his mother Mary.
Well done!

The second person of the Trinity is the Son because he proceeds forth out from within the Father (Jn 8:42, 16:27, 28, 17:8).
And the Holy Spirit is the spirit of them both for the Holy Spirit likewise proceeds forth out from within the Father (Jn 15:16), and in Rev 22:1, the river of the water of life, the Holy Spirit (Rev 22:17), which flows out from within the throne of God and the Lamb, is a figurative statement of the procession (going forth) of the Holy Spirit out from within the Father and the Son.
The second person of the Trinity is both God the Son and man the Son.
Luke 1:34-35 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God.

Thus only the Holy human offspring is called the Son of God. In all His wisdom and love isn't God amazing!?!!!!
God is the direct Father of the man Jesus. It should excite us all that God loves us so much that He went through all of this to be both God and man for us. Talk about the Good News!

While walking the earth Jesus Immanuel the Son of God kept and maintained his humble human state by saying that all that He did as a human being was only executed by way of His Father and not of himself. All that Jesus did was done through the power of the Holy Spirit so that the power and miracles of God could give His Father in heaven all the glory.

John 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

Here we see how Jesus can be 100% man and 100% God simultaneously through the Holy Spirit. As a human being Jesus never sought to glorify himself b y showing off his eternal abilities- He always pointed us to God in heaven so that his Father received all the glory while demonstrating that He was indeed Immanuel. In fact, Satan tempted Jesus in the desert to try and show who He (the Word) truly was yet Jesus rebuked him and always redirected the serpent's attention to God not himself. Because He is and was God Jesus truly had all the gifts of the Holy Spirit but never sought to glorify himself so that He could be the perfect 100% man for us while being 100% God. Thus being the perfect sacrifice for sins.

I find it interested that the only time we do not see the Trinue God represented in Jesus was when He hung on the cross saying "My God My God" why have you forsaken me, thus leaving himself out to represent himself as the 100% "Son of Man". Why? So that He could die for the sins of the world in our place as a man. If He did not do this He could not qualify to be a sacrifice for us. He would not have been able to call himself a true man, hence the Second Adam. Even as Jesus was dying on the cross Satan was trying to get him to save himself by tempting and moving the people to say "If" you're the Son of God save yourself and come down from the cross. Truly His love is what kept him there so that He could fulfill the mission of being the Lamb of God who was slain before the world began.

1 Peter 1:19-20 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.....

On a lower level (and maybe a poor example concerning us) is that the Holy Spirit dwells in us yet we who have received Jesus in our flesh have been given the power to become the children of God (John 1:12-13). As children of God and new creatures in Christ we will never be Him but we will be like Jesus one day when we see Him (1 John 1:1-3). As born again children of God we have 100% of God (Zoe) living and growing within us whereby we will one day reign in heaven with Christ.

Our new Spirit filled life (Zoe) is all about depending on the Holy Spirit. All that we do as Christians is always to be directed towards the glory of God in the name of Jesus and not ourselves. Jesus perfectly lived his human life in this way and is the ultimate example to be followed. That is why he tells us to follow Him. That is why we are told to put ourselves aside and to put on Christ.

Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.

I know this might not be the best way to describe it all as I'm not exactly sure at this time how else to convey such depth so apologies in advance.
As we all know. This is a very serious topic as space is never enough when seeking to wrap our minds around it all when trying to answer to it. Grasping such is a constant endeavor.

I hope that the aforementioned can somehow demonstrate how Jesus Christ can be both 100% God and 100% man all at the same time from a limited, meager and human perspective.

Be blessed

Are you saying He is not the Eternal Son who prior to the Incarnation existed as the Son eternally ?

The Trinity is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He has always been the 2nd Person of the Trinity- the Son. Just the same as the Father has always been the Father .

As Immanuel this amazing title given to Jesus describes that He represents all that God is. The second person of the Trinity is God and the ultimate representation of all that is God.

Although difficult to convey in no uncertain terms. The point being made is that The Son of God had to also be the Son of Man thus being 100% human. Hence a son born of Adam in order to be the perfect sacrifice or He couldn't qualify and die for our Sins. He has and will always be the Son of God and second person of the Trinity.

Coming as the Son of God to be the Son of Man in the flesh, thus being born from the seed of a woman is the attempt being made in this writers answer in order to clarify why He is called the Second Adam yet the Lord from heaven. In the book of John if you underline all the times Jesus refers to himself as the Son of man and the Son of God it might become a bit more clear.
Neither takes a way from the reality of His Deity but attempts to show why He called is both God and man.

Nice summary !

Hypostatic Union

1.
Jesus is a person. (1 Tim 2:5)

2. Jesus, the Person, has two natures- Divine and human (John 1:1, 14, 1 Timothy 3:16): Divine and human. This is the Hypostatic Union.( Col 2:9, Heb 1:3,2:16)

3. The Communicatio Idiomatum (Communication of the Properties) states that the attributes of His Divine nature and human nature are both ascribed to the one Person of Jesus. So Jesus can exhibit attributes of Divinity (Omnipresence, Omniscience, Omnipotence, . John 2:23, 3:13, 8:58, He was prayed to in Acts 7:59, John 14:13, He was is worshiped Matt 2:2:11, Rev 5:13-14) and at the same time exhibit attributes of His humanity( He was tempted, ate, prayed, wept, grew in wisdom and stature, was anointed, was baptized, the Father was greater, didn’t know the day or the hour of His Return, He cried My God my God why has Thou forsaken Me, He died etc.). The communicatio idiomatum does not mean that any part of the Divine nature was communicated to the human nature.

4. The Man(anthropos) Jesus is what we perceive (if we were there 2000 years ago in Israel) and through the Man we encounter the Divine nature (Jesus knowing all things, is on earth while in heaven, answers prayer, forgiving sins, etc.).

5. The Person of Jesus will always be both Divine and human. (John 1:1,14,20:28, 1 John 5:20, 1 Timothy 2:5) Those who deny this fact are the spirit of antichrist. (1 John 4:1-4,2 John 7)

6. The Divine Nature is within the Trinity.(Father, Son and Holy Spirit)

7. Since the Person of Jesus claims the attributes of Divinity(John 3:13,8:58,Matthew 9:2,12:8), then the Person of Jesus is a member of the Trinity.( John 14-16, Math 28:19)

Anything said of either of Christ's two natures applies to the one Person of Christ, so that is how it is said that Christ died on the cross. The term "hypostatic union" refers to the two natures united in the one Person, so anything said of those two natures in the one Person applies to the whole Person. So we see that the Person of Christ is both God and man. The phrase hypostatic union was adopted by the general council at Chalcedon 451 AD. That council declared that the union of two natures is real (against Arius), not a mere indwelling of God in a man (against Nestorius), with a rational soul (against Apollinaris), and that in Christ’s Divine nature remains unchanged (against Eutyches).

We need to look to the Monothelite Controversy which had to deal with whether there was one or two wills/minds in the person of Christ. The outcome was that there were two; one human and one divine with the human subjected to the divine. The eternal Son of God did not assume a part of a human nature without a mind, without a will, without human activity, but He assumed all the things that were planted in our nature by God.

Now then, to act (or in this case, speak) is the work of a person, but the form or nature is the cause of this action; for each person acts in accord with the form or nature which it has. A difference in causes (natures) produces a difference in effects (actions). Therefore, where there are different natures, there are also different activities. So in the one Person of Christ there are two natural actions, the divine and the human, each of which has its own essential attributes, functions, and actions. Jesus was thirty years old according to His human nature (Luke 3:23); according to His divine nature He could say: "Before Abraham was born, I am" (John 8:58). The question is did both natures know this and communicate it to the Person. The answer is yes because the divine nature with its corresponding divine will willed the human nature to respond in such a fashion in keeping with Christ's office and ministry. In the text regarding Mark 13:32, we have a slightly different situation here. Christ is acting (speaking) from His human nature, but, this time, the divine will does not allow the human will access to this knowledge. For this information is not to be published on earth. Therefore, as man, Christ cannot answer the question.

hope this helps !!!
Is Jesus a human person?

Is Jesus a human person?
Thanks
No He is a Divine Person with a human nature from mary. If He was a human person and a divine person that is the heresy known as Nestorianism condemned by the church councils/creeds.

Jesus is both human and divine, two natures in one person.

Jesus is both human and divine, two natures in one person.
That is what I said its just worded differently to expose the Nestorian heresy.

Hypostatic Union

5. The (one) Person of Jesus will always be both Divine and human (John 1:1,14,20:28, 1 John 5:20, 1 Timothy 2:5) Those who deny this fact are the spirit of antichrist. (1 John 4:1-4,2 John 7)
Jesus has two natures, divine and human, in one person.

You are contradicting yourself. Person of Jesus will always be both Divine and human. (John 1:1,14,20:28, 1 John 5:20, 1 Timothy 2:5) Those who deny this fact are the spirit of antichrist. (1 John 4:1-4,2 John 7)
You are contradicting yourself: both divine and human vs. only divine with a human nature.

If he is both divine and human, he has two natures in his one person.
If He was a human person and a divine person that is the heresy known as Nestorianism condemned by the church councils/creeds.
No, Nestorianism is that Jesus was two persons.

He is one person with two natures, divine and human.

And the Trinity is one God in three persons.
