Romans 8:29 KJV
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Is this referring to Jesus? If so, why would it say 'conformed to the image of His Son?

Is this referring to Jesus?
Yes
why would it say 'conformed to the image of His Son?
Lots of verse say we are "conformed to the image of His Son" .... save as being "in Christ", "in Him", "me in you and you in me", imputation of His righteousness to us" ... yada, yada

"Conformed to the image of His Son" refers to the elect. Those he foreknew and predestined. "That he might be the firstborn among many brethren" refers to his resurrection and believers future resurrection.

Is WHAT referring to Jesus —1) the one who foreknew and who predestined, or 2) the one to be the firstborn?

1. refers to God, and the Father in particular. 2. refers to Jesus the Christ of God.

The "whom" refers to the elect. We become conformed to the image of Christ. The Son is the express image of God. Don't ask me how to explain that! The Berean Literal is probably the best there, "...the exact expression of [God's] substance". He is "God of very God". I'm expecting that the conforming is more referring to the Sanctification process subsequent to Regeneration, but I can't say it isn't also that Sealing by the Spirit, being placed "in Christ".

John 17 has always been scary to me, taking thoughts farther than I dare to go. Too, the different indications throughout scripture of the nature of God's love for us, that we are members of Christ's body, are more than I can hold in my head. I can refer to them, but they are so beyond me that I don't trust my use of Scripture, here. But the Scripture is there, anyway, and applicable —of that I am sure. The only way I know to put this is in a literal thought, that we are of Christ's very DNA, members of his very body, bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. (But I can't trust my thinking, there. The thoughts are too strong for me.)

Yes image or representation loving kind forgiving. invisible God

Not in the likeness of men mirror imagine .. . . what the eyes see dying flesh and blood

Acts 14: 10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

So the Son is being conformed to Himself??

I thought the elect was covered in vs 30...

(Rom 8:30) Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Nevermind. Rereading Rom 8:29, I must of had a senior moment last night while posting.

"Those" could not be referring to Jesus.

I think we are talking past each.
The Son (GOD) is never conformed as that would contradict His immutability.

It does but so does verse 31.

Speak for yourself! :ROFLMAO:

(I'm so good at it that the next day I'm wondering what in the world I was talking about!)

As we have borne the image of the earthly(Adam, man), we shall also bear the image of the heavenly (Adam, man…by resurrection)
The natural body is mortal. The spiritual body is immortal. 👍

While that may be true, can you show that from Scripture —the word, "As", in particular, is what I'm talking about. Is there any such statement in Scripture to bring those side-by-side there? Or is it just reasoning?

Eternal God is not a Jewish man "dying mankind" .

That is a wile of the evil one (Mathew 16)t needed to seduce mankind to believe he is a Jewish man .

Jesus our brother in the lord was changed from a son of man born of woman dying mankind to the Son of God .

Jesus is not ashamed to call us brother and sisters . As a prophet He informs us whosever does the will of out invisible Holy Father are his brothers and sisters. We call no man on earth Holy Father

Matthew 12:50For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Mark 3:35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

Show this from scripture, not from your personal reasoning.

Thanks .It does not change the simplicity of the gospel. Christ not served by the dying hands as a will of mankind .He alone saves.

Power from the ressurection not earthly birth, dying mankind .

An earthly body signified as sinful was needed and promised to show the invisible power of the Father pouring out His holy Spirit on dying flesh and blood in jeapordy of his own Spirit life .

He gives us little of that power called faith to both hear and do the work appointed to us .

Yoked with His labor of love our daily burdens can be lighter

Jesus the Son of man born of woman. Mary a member of the chaste virgin bride like that of Timothy when Paul who sufferer in pains of birth holding out the gospel. Timothy was then as a chaste virgin bride espoused to Christ the husband the virgin birth .

Mary was with child from Joseph; through the Holy Spirit before they were married .All children are a gift from the lord the breath of God .The miracle is in the new birth the ressurection

2 Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ

Two ways to use that word virgin. Satan would make it all together one in order to remove the spiral unseen significance .Performing that kind of deception with many words .. . hiding the gospel understanding which is revealed to the believer

What Jesus like us will be is not known .Neither male nor female As sons of God we have a living hope beyond the grave

if jesus is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters than neither should we be ashamed to call each other Son of God Christians

Dying mankind must be born again

Matthew 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Mark 3:35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

So the Son is being conformed to Himself??
He conforms to the will of the father like all born again believers .Not as I will no power but you father the one with all power to raise the dead .
