Gen 6...who are the sons of God?

Gen 6...who are the sons of God?

Are they descendents of Seth?
Are they descendents of Cain?
Are they powerful human rulers?
Are they angels?

Who and or what are the Nephilim the offspring of the marriages?

Gen 6
1 Now when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took as wives whomever they chose.

3 So the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days shall be 120 years.”

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and afterward as well—when the sons of God had relations with the daughters of men. And they bore them children who became the mighty men of old, men of renown.
According to the New Testament.....

Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Luke 20:34-36
Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; for they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

Romans 8:12-19
So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.

Galatians 3:26-27
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

A son of God is someone who makes peace, has obtained resurrection, lives according to and are led by the Spirit. Sonship is obtained through faith in Christ. In Genesis 6, they were Old Testament saints.

Psalm 16:2-3
I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; I have no good besides You." As for the saints who are in the earth, they are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight.

Angels have a physical aspect. In Gen 19 they look like men. They eat like men and they can physically grab you. They can also speak and see.

I can say the same thing to you as I said to Mt. GLee

The sons of God have several nuances. We know the Job sons of Gods were not born again christians because they didn't witness the earth being made...

No human in the Bible was ever qualified to be called a son of God until after Pentecost.
Not until after the Church age began.
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God."
Romans 8:14

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him."
1 John 3:1

I would offer. . Church age or the bride of Christ age ???

The born again doctrine

Cain. . figurative name for "murderer, Abel meaning "vanity".

The hopes of the first born as a way back into the garden (Genesis 3:15) were crushed, They then knew it was by faith, the invisible Christ pouring his grace working out his a labor of love in us Yoked with him our daily burdens can be lighter .

The apostle Abel martyred, the "second born" is used to represent our second birth (must be born again) Passed on as a sign to all the nations to another second born Enos. meaning "mortal man". The born agin seed, Christ. . . was passed on until the birth of the Son of man Jesus the first born son of God. It was at that born again time that dying mankind individually called on Christ .

Genisis4:26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.

Enos meaning man or mortal

Esau seeing no value in first born sold his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of hairy goat soup Onan no value spilled seed (etc

When you remove Jude's comparison of the fallen angels to the same sin "in like manner" that the men of Sodom were trying to do with the angelic visitors, then yes, you have watered down Jude's message.
Like I said before: I did not remove it. At one point I quoted the entire book of Jude. I got his message loud and clear. He was comparing the angelic activity of leaving their God appointed positions and what took place in Sodom to what the false teachers that were doing to the moral teachings of Christianity. It was something in particular that moved Jude to write what he did.

What is the assigned position of humanity regarding marriage and sexuality? Not men with men and women with women.

There is no indication in Gen 19 that the men of Sodom knew the strangers were angels. And even if you are right and they did know, and therefore they were wanting to commit the same sin as the fallen angels committed (according to you) you do not have the same sin at all. You do not have angels wanting to copulate with men, you would have men wanting to copulate with angels.

So the point of Jude making this comparison is not to remind us that we shouldn't have sexual relations with angels; and it is not of necessity saying that angels did have sexual relations with human women. In fact it is more likely that it refers to sexual immorality, period, and suggests that this was a characteristic of the particular teaching Jude was dealing with. The comparison was for the purpose of identifying these type of men (teachers) for what they were.

4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire,[d] serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

8 Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones

For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam's error and perished in Korah's rebellion. 12 These are hidden reefs[e] at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; 13 wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.
14 It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, 15 to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” 16 These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.

And the conclusion:

A Call to Persevere

17 But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They[f] said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment[g] stained by the flesh.

Put the whole thing together and don't get sidetracked by focusing on the wrong thing. "Enoch", "angels", "proper place", and making those the central teaching of Jude, through speculation and confirmation bias. Or alternately you can skim or fail to read altogether in order to ascertain why I quoted what I did in connection to what I said. And stay right where you are in your assertions you deem fact.

LOL No, no. no I heard that before.

Job 1:5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.. . . .daily bread

Job a son of God in his morning prayer for his children and self his offerings came along with the prayers of all saint called the golden censer. Gold represents faith the unseen power of God) .The accuser of the brother came to accuse all . . saying .you doubted!! your dead.!

Job 1: 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them.
And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Revelation 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.

The fallen angels were one of those examples Jude gave of celestial-fleshed beings "defiling their flesh" with marital unions with terrestrial-fleshed human women.
Gen 6 does not say the celestial beings (and does not say "celestial fleshed either). That is absolutely being read into it by one sentence in Jude into Gen 6. "In like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones."

But Jude is talking about people here, who are defiling the flesh with sexual immorality just like the people in Sodom. And defiling the flesh is only one of their sins. The angels spoken of earlier in the letter, fell for the same reason. Rejecting God's authority and blaspheming the glorious ones. And sexual immorality, among many other things, is rejecting God's authority.
1 Cor. 15:40 gives us the difference between the flesh of the two species.
Do you not see how you are taking something from one place in Scripture and applying to something it is not even discussing or dealing with---and arriving at beliefs or supporting beliefs already held, that way?

Paulis discussing the resurrection of the believer here to start with. But let's just put 1 Cor 15:40 together with 41. "There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another. 41. There is one glory of the sun and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory." Paul is not referring to angels when he says heavenly bodies and not to flesh at all, but glory. He has previously dealt with fleshly bodies. Each creature has its own type of flesh.

And then he says so it is with the resurrection of the dead. It is like a seed. The natural, flesh is first, of the earth and it is raised a spiritual body. We die as the man of dust, will be raised bearing the image of the man from heaven. Flesh and blood, he tells us, cannot inherit the kingdom of God. We are raised having put on the imperishable, the mortal put on immortality.

It has nothing to do with angels or angels putting on flesh.

And why shouldn't Genesis and Jude be enough to prove a point regarding the fallen angels? How many times must God mentions something before you get the point?
That presemes your own interpretation which I believe, according to the evidence of Scripture as a whole (rather than isolated and proof texted), is wrong.
But there are more examples of giants cropping up again in scripture in the OT conquest of Canaan. God wasn't just commanding genocide of those specified nations in Deuteronomy 20:16-17 for no reason.
Well hey---I thought you said they all died in the flood and those angels were bound in chains.
You know what didn't die in the flood? Man's fallen nature, therefore sin and death.

And yes God had a reason for wiping out those nations that possessed the land He promised to Abraham's descendants. He actually tells us what that is and never once does He mention it is because they are fallen angel/human hybrids. It also says they were very tall, so tall and mighty in warfare, they intimidated and frightened the spies that went in to spy out the land.
Those nations listed in Deut. 10:17 were to be destroyed down to the last one that breathed. This was done to rid the promised land of those who would tempt the Israelites to commit idolatry with the abominations which they practiced.
It was to prevent them from being tempted to worship other gods. He was their God, the one true and living God, and they were to worship not other.
Likewise, this eradication of those listed nations was to get rid of more of the same problem with angels having married human women and begetting more giants - which giants were a definite hallmark of the nations which God instructed the Israelites to destroy utterly (fulfilled in Joshua 7-12).
The Bible does not say that. You say that. Confirmation bias.
There are plenty of scriptures that testify as to Satan, his devils, and the unclean spirits all being destroyed in the AD 70 period when these were all imprisoned within the city of Jerusalem. It IS an absolute.
If it is so absolute, give me at least three such scriptures.
I often post verses about that theme on several different Christian forums, and everybody simply waves their hand in dismissal of those texts
Because there is no way they can hold up to the whole counsel of God and empirical evidence, I would imagine. You have already shown that you proof text and misapply scripture, and in so doing, read into what is not there. And if people wave it away, it is likely because they have already dealt with the wall nothing will penetrate.
People just can't seem to relinquish their desire to have Satan or his devils around to blame for their misdeeds or for the evil present in the world.
That is quite the assumption. How do your account for this evil present age? Or do you think it is not evil?

The judgment was not only on mortals. God's judgment fell on ALL types of flesh species, as in Genesis 6:12-13. "And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for ALL flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth." That means the flesh of mankind was not the only type of flesh that had become corrupted and was going to be destroyed. The hybrid angel / human giants were going to be destroyed, as well as any beasts with the breath of life. God said in Genesis 6:3 that mankind was "ALSO" made of flesh - meaning that sons of God as angels were also fleshly beings of another type of substance.
And so, it includes bestiality. As well as possibly mating beasts with others not of their own kind. Old fashioned genetical perversions?

Angels had a certain flesh type which Paul called "celestial bodies" in 1 Cor. 15:40, in contrast to "terrestrial bodies" of mankind.
Good point. Angels have celestial bodies, whereas man being made lower than angels have terrestrial bodies. Resurrection in likeness of Christ is man now with immortal celestial bodies as that of angels.

Heb 2:16For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Heb 2:17Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

The same distinciton is made in Hebrews, to reject Christ being a created angel, or coming in a celestial body of angels, and not the same natural flesh and blood of all men.

These different types of bodies were not made to mingle with each other. In disobedience, the fallen angels broke that barrier and mingled their type of celestial bodies with the human daughters of men with their terrestrial bodies (thereby becoming "unclean" by association with fallen mankind).
And we see later in Scripture the appearance of angels as men on earth, including the preappearance of Christ. Which is still happening today with angels visiting unawares.

With their bodies in appearance of men, they can eat and drink naturally, as well as have sex. However, their bodies are not naturally born flesh and blood, as that of Jesus Christ. With the angels that sinned were cast into hell, they still have their celestial bodies.

Noah apparently was a from a family which had not been corrupted by this practice, and therefore God could use his family to propagate descendants after the flood without that hybrid corruption of the gene pool.
True. However, it was not only Noah's natural blood unmmixed with that of angels, but also His faith and righteousness unmixed with corruption of the world.

You made good points from Scripture, that clears up certain questions of detail. Thanks. We need more believers teaching from all Scripture to prove certain parts of the Bible, rather than jumping to conclusions made exclusive to one part.

The wholeness of God's word is that every word is inclusive to them all, and no verses are exclusive of the rest.

When you remove Jude's comparison of the fallen angels to the same sin "in like manner" that the men of Sodom were trying to do with the angelic visitors, then yes, you have watered down Jude's message.
You are saying that if I do not agree with your interpretation, then I am watering down Jude's message. That is a false dichotomy. It is also an appeal to your authority fallacy.

Not exactly. The same quote from Matthew 22:30 further explains that, saying, "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God IN HEAVEN." That is the elect, obedient angels in heaven that do not marry. The point being that the fallen angels disobeyed that restriction on their species, and "left their first habitation" in heaven (Jude 6) to marry human women and beget sons which became giants. @CrowCross got this right above.

Angels had a certain flesh type which Paul called "celestial bodies" in 1 Cor. 15:40, in contrast to "terrestrial bodies" of mankind. These different types of bodies were not made to mingle with each other. In disobedience, the fallen angels broke that barrier and mingled their type of celestial bodies with the human daughters of men with their terrestrial bodies (thereby becoming "unclean" by association with fallen mankind).

Noah apparently was a from a family which had not been corrupted by this practice, and therefore God could use his family to propagate descendants after the flood without that hybrid corruption of the gene pool.
You connect Jude with Genesis 6 correctly. Which is previously proven by 2 Peter:

2Pe 2:4For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

The angels sinned and were cast into hell in the days of Noah. Jude reveals the nature of their sin to be sexual abmoniation of strange flesh, along with homosexuality.

"Gen 6 does not say the celestial beings (and does not say "celestial fleshed either). That is absolutely being read into it by one sentence in Jude into Gen 6."

We see it's not from Jude alone. We can also see that the false argument is preceeded with a nonsense statement, that no one makes. Niether Scripture nor anyone is saying the angels came to earth with celestial flesh. They came in the same manner of all visting angels in the appearance of men, that are able to eat and drink naturally with men and women.

Christ has purposely written His Scripture to be taken altogether, in order to reveal the whole truth of Scripture. That applies to historical record, prophecy, and doctrine. That is why studying to rightly divide His words, is necessary to be prove the truth, nothing but the truth, and the whole truth of Scripture of God

Excluding other Scripture is the error of them that teach their own minds about certain places of the Bible. And if they refuse correction of other Scripture showing otherwise, then it's no longer by ignorance alone.

No, not really. There are books and videos that explain Gen 6.

There are books and videos of opposing views.
One can explain anything away as long as those listening are as dumb Scripturally as the one explaining.

And, sad to say.... it works just the same when its in reverse.
For you could have perfect understanding, and it will do no good
if those listening are dull in hearing.

Its why false teachings flourish.

Those who know, "know."
Those who do not? They "no."

Its not a matter of who is right before men as to what is accepted by God.

Gen 6...who are the sons of God?

Gen 6
1 Now when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took as wives whomever they chose.

They did not take wives and marry as many translation tries to tell us.
We have to know the Hebrew meaning....

Now it came to pass,
when mankind {literally 'adam - came to be used for 'mankind'}
had begun to 'become numerous'/multiply
on the face of the ground {adamah},
and daughters/'beautiful women' had been born unto them . . .
2~~that the angels {beni ha Elohiym idiom: literally sons of 'elohiym/gods}
kept watching the daughters of mankind . . .
that they were very beautiful . . .

and they took/'seized passionately' to them women {'ishshah}
{here is a masculine plural suffix signifying 'it happened
but was irregular'} of all whom they examined and selected.
That's a big difference as to what was going on!
These males were overpowering and taking any one they selected and pretty much leaving the women alone after.
They were interbreeding of different species and the intimate bond of husband and wife was not possible!

Interestingly enough. This passage holds the key to understanding why homosexuality exists today.

In Christ ..... grace and peace.

Job 1:6Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

Job 38:4Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding...When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

1Jo 3:1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Both angels and men are called sons of God.

Gen 6:2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Gen 6:4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

The gaints were before the sons of God marrying daughters of men. Scripture does not here say how.

Mat 24:37But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Jesus reveals the marrying in the days of Noah was among men and women, and apparently in an ungodly manner.

Gen 4:26And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

Psa 145:18The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

Men also began to call upon the Lord before the days of Noah, and so the sons of God were godly men marrying daughters of men, perhaps unequally without consent of the Lord.

2Pe 2:4For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

Jde 1:6And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

We also know that the angels sinned in the days of Noah, and left heaven to do so. Even as in the manner of fornication with strange flesh.

And so, godly men married daughters of men, producing men of renown. The best interrpetration from Scripture is that angels sinned and produced giants on the earth. And that sin was as fornication with strange flesh. Since males do not produce children, then it would need to be with females.

Why do people try to change Scripture so obviously today? Any layman can now look at word definitions and know their regular meaning, including Hebrew.

The sons of God were sons born of women. Not angels.

Gen 6:2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Gen 6:4
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

The gaints were before the sons of God marrying daughters of men. Scripture does not here say how.

 .... ehhhh?

Ghada???

Last time I checked?

2 comes before 4.

You got it reversed. And, chopped and edited to fit your desired outcome.

Gen 6:4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that,
when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they
bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old,
men of renown.

Ghada? What are you protecting? And, why?

How can anyone reason with you when you will not see what is written,
and then tell us how to see what is not said, as to being what it says?

What are you hiding?

You are very confused......

Put the whole thing together and don't get sidetracked by focusing on the wrong thing. Or alternately you can skim or fail to read altogether in order to ascertain why I quoted what I did in connection to what I said. And stay right where you are in your assertions you deem fact.
In the final analysis, all of this is a moot point, now that there are no longer any creatures of the Satanic realm in existence anymore. God has forever removed any possibility of this type of angelic / human marriages taking place ever again. All that are left are the "elect angels" at present who are preserved in their righteous state.

"Gen 6 does not say the celestial beings (and does not say "celestial fleshed either). That is absolutely being read into it by one sentence in Jude into Gen 6."
Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:40 made reference to the different type of bodies - "celestial bodies" and "terrestrial bodies". He had just been listing the different types of flesh - men, beasts, birds, and fish. The glory of celestial bodies Paul wrote is different from the glory of terrestrial bodies. These species were not supposed to mingle with each other in marital unions, as was the problem back in Genesis 6 and Jude.

As I showed you!-----The celestial bodies Paul was referring to in 1 Cor 15:40 were the celestial bodies of verse 41. SUn, moon, stars. Not angels. I do not understand when one is shown how scripture is interpreting itself---as I did---one still clings to the false thing they were believing. Why, why, why?
