Flesh Versus The Spirit.

First of all, John the Apostle does not have any Sin.
From the perspective of God who is Eternal we are holy, righteous, sinless.
But from the perspective of man in TIME we are sinners everyday saved by the grace of God.
See Jesus on the Cross as the reason why.

So, right way, even common sense tells us that this verse is not directed at a born again believer.
It would be foolish to teach that John the Apostle "has sin", while he's preaching to a group of unbelievers.

And also, if you read all of Paul's epistles, he never once confesses sin, or tells you to do it, reader.
Not once.
Did he forget?
Not quite.
Paul was a sinner saved by the grace of God. He reveals openly that he had issues after salvation with lust.

7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. Ro 7:7.

The Law is type and shadow of the Holy Spirit. It is HE whom God Promised to "put in our inward parts" for many purposes but also to apply God's Holy Law and Commands within us speaking to our conscience and mind.

33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;
After those days, saith the LORD,
I will put my law in their inward parts,
And write it in their hearts;
And will be their God,
And they shall be my people.
Jer. 31:33.

Thus, the Law/Spirit is in us and it and He speaks to us from within:

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Jn 14:17.
What a lot of students of the word have not comprehended, is that these Apostles, were PREACHERS, and they often preached to a group of unbelievers right there in your bible.
Yeah, really.
They were more than just preachers.
The apostles had a ministry to go from the Mount of Olives to all four points of the compass to herald the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Israel's Messiah/Christ, and that their Messiah had indeed come (Acts 1:8). ALL Israel knew the prophecy of Deut. 18:18 where God Promised to send a Prophet like unto Moses. He came. And for those Israelites living outside of Jerusalem and Israel it was their ministry to herald that truth. Each apostle also had various spiritual gifts to accomplish that ministry.
That is 1 John 1:9.
If you are an unbeliever who needs to have your sin forgiven, then DO IT.
That verse is for you, unbeliever., never born again.
When John is talking to the Born again, in a similar verse, that would be 1 John 3:9
The confession of our sins to God after conversion has to do with relationship, not salvation.
You have it mixed up.

At the moment, I’m with you on this one, there is no sin in a Born Again..as scripture above says......but, we still have that old sin nature the flesh / mind..to contend with?

We have a new nature in Christ.....do we not?

My sin was lifted and forgiven the evening I was birthed in the Spirit
From God's Eternal perspective we are holy, righteous, sinless. This is the result of the Word of Christ in which we are justified "NOT GUILTY" (which is a one-time act of God towards the believer,) and from the moment of our salvation we are sanctified (which is an ongoing process till we die.)

Your sin with regard to our perspective in TIME is not lifted.
That's because you have lied.
Repent!

I didn’t know I lied, I was led to believe that all of my sin, past, present and future were all forgiven......So, God knows in my heart I did not deliberately lie......he knows where I am in my heart/ spirit.....I’ve apologised to him and he has shown me, that I FOLLOW him and his word....he’s also telling me through the Spirit....to get my head back in his word and to STOP posting on here for the moment.

He knows how hungry I am for his word, that I’m asking questions all over the place....I need to study SIN is what I’m getting.....so you may not see me for a while.....I will get back to you all on the subject.....God Bless and thank you.

This is the real living word of God.....it’s something we experience when we become Born Again....that’s my understanding of it.

Can we discuss it and what it means please?

If Admin allows...I don’t mind if we discuss what sanctification means as well?

[9] But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. [10] And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Romans 6:19

New American Standard Bible

19 I am speaking [a]in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented [b]the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, [c]resulting in further lawlessness, so now present [d]your body’s parts as slaves to righteousness, [e]resulting in sanctification.

A person who is in the Spirit, moves toward righteousness.

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

This right living is empowered by the Holy Spirit. But it does not "just happen", there may be an initial cleansing, but we need to daily walk out our faith. This power is not of ourselves:

Gal 5:5 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

It comes by daily abiding in the LORD.

Mat 26:41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

John 15:4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

We also need to take steps toward God's will, it is not 100% prayer or abiding. We still need submission:

Jas 4:7 Therefore submit to God.

Re: Flesh vs. Spirit

Sorry, I am not sure what you are talking about.

Sanctification – to be “set apart” from that which is unholy to that which is holy. Sanctification is that continuous operation of the Holy Spirit [and Christ] in the process of salvation, by which the holy disposition imparted in regeneration is maintained and strengthened. God does not share with us the work of sanctification, any more than he shares with us the work of justification. He must do all (1 Thessalonians 5:23; 1 Peter 1:2). Author Unknown
When we are birthed in the Spirit..the battle begins flesh verses the Spirit....imo/ belief, the Spirit/always Without Question overcomes the flesh...but, it all takes time...the flesh doesn’t want to obey the Holy Spirit....that’s our old nature...we now have that new nature in Christ...

His Spirit in us no doubt whatsoever brings us to obedience and in-line with the will of God for our lives......we are being made into the image of Jesus....how?...by the power of the Holy Spirit and you know oh so how powerful he is don’t you?......he birthed us in the Spirit...that’s how we know he’s Alive and more POWERFUL than we could ever understand.

A Born Again who has been birthed in the Spirit...is being made into the image of Jesus.....as far as I understand we are already in his righteousness when we are birthed.....

This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,

New Living Translation
We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

English Standard Version
the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:

And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction

Another way of putting the flesh @fastfredy0 .

The flesh is always at battle with the Spirit.....they battle it out...because our old flesh Nature is against the Spirit ....we still have that old man / the flesh that never dies.

As we learn to walk in the Spirit....the flesh dies daily more and more....my flesh is nothing like it used to be,” UNRULY “ ..the Spirit is at work in my heart ,I’m becoming more like Jesus....and the old me/ flesh.....is dying to self....my Son even said to me the other day...Mum what’s happening with the old you I used to know?....that was to me a compliment to the work of the Holy Spirit whose at work in my heart/ Spirit....Praise His Holy Name!....there is none like our Father God.....

This is my very simple way of explaining the flesh....I’m sure some won’t agree...therefore I’m open for correcting.

This makes sense, it is a process.

Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

That is where our abiding comes in. Having the Holy Spirit will change us. But to "resist sin" we need to abide. One who abides in Christ will be stronger than one who just lives 100% naturally.

Mat 26:41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Not that the natural life is wrong, we can get unbalanced.

Ecc 7:16-18 Do not be overly righteous, Nor be overly wise: Why should you destroy yourself? Do not be overly wicked, Nor be foolish: Why should you die before your time? It is good that you grasp this, And also not remove your hand from the other; For he who fears God will escape them all.

Then read Romans 4:8, and again you'll find Paul teaching you that sin is not charged to the born again.
Rom4:8Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”

Psalm 32:1Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
2Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.

Paul’s quotation is drawn from Psalm 32, and is not saying that a) a believer doesn’t sin, or b) that a believer can sin without repercussions.

It means a) that one who has been forgiven of their sins, implying strongly the truths of 1John 1:8-9, and b) whose spirit is free from deceit will not be held in contempt by God! They will not be found guilty at the judgement of all men.

I didn’t know I lied,

All your sin past, present, and future is forgiven by God.
Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.
This is the length of our redemption.

But as you posted this on Flesh vs. Spirit, we sin in our daily lives and this we do in our present dispensation in TIME (and space - thank you, Einstein.)

Again, I wasn't calling you a liar. Due to Behold's error in his statements and his position that we do not sin, HE HAS sinned in that his statements are erroneous at best and lies at worse.
@Behold.

(added: Ah, I see what happen. The error was mine. My apologies. I am sorry. I thought I was addressing Behold's statements but I was on your comment. I feel terrible!)
