Contradiction? Why not?
Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the [Holy] Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself tempts no one.

No contradiction at all. It was all ordained from the beginning, including our own temptations.

James says, "...each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin...." That is the way temptation works for those of us who are driven by our own evil desire.

Killjoy that I am, though, I have to point out, concerning the Matthew 4:1 reference: The word translated 'tempted' can also mean 'tested'.

What is described in Matthew took place before what is affirmed in James.

It's the difference between testing (Mt.4.1) and tempting James 1:13

So when I was dating my future wife, was it "testing" or "tempting" me? 🤔 Maybe both?

It doesn't apply.
How not? God used to tempt people but not anymore —not since James says he doesn't?

God does not change his reasons for and use of evil, nor his character.

With me, the testing began AFTER marrying her.

Led by the [Holy] Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil in order to see if the Son of man will be empowered by the will of the Father .

Not tempted of the Father. Jesus the Son of man 40 day fast no strength was given. . a false vision as false prophecy the devil tempting .

Three times to denote the end of a matter The Father faithfully gave words to his apostle Jesus to prophecy as it is writen again and again as it is written .

Demonstrate how —or more to the point, how it makes any difference which happened first.

Because Jesus (God) was clearly tempted.
Oh. In other words, you do whatever it takes to make scripture fit your sequences?

The fact that he was tempted and that all things whatsoever come to pass do so by God's causation, does not translate to "God does the tempting", but that he causes that there be tempting. Not at all the same thing.

The idea of a superhuman personal devil is false.
Temptations all humans experience come from their own desires of the flesh.

True. Next question: who/what is the cause of their desires?

Because Matt 4 says Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit to be tempted BY the devil. (Not to be tempted by God.)
James 1 says God tempts no one and our temptations come from our desires for what is opposed to God in our world.
