Will we recognize anyone when in heaven?

Moses and Elijah are kept by God for a special purpose. Peter was on earth and Moses and Elijah appeared in their natural body. They will die though as the two witnesses.
The problem with that is, Moses did die, and God buried him. It was Enoch and Elijah that were taken to heaven without dying.

Remember though that Satan wanted the body of Moses but Michael the archangel contended with him. (Jude 9)

He still died and God buried him. He met with Jesus, so that proves when we die, our soul doesn't remain in the grave. Just the body sleeps.

Will we recognize anyone when in heaven?

NO.

Possible proof text:
  • Isaiah 65:17 Behold, I am creating new heavens and a new earth; And the former things [of life] will not be remembered or come to mind. We're going to have a 'new body' ..
  • 1 John 3:2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared
  • Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Aside: This make for terrible fodder for the funerals of dead ones.

Personally, I believe the parable about the rich man and Lazarus is a good indication we will.
Maybe ... but I try to avoid building doctrine on parables.

I think that might depend quite a bit upon how old they were the last time we saw
them and how old they are now.
Assumes our "new bodies" continue aging in heaven ... like how wrinkled can one get ! 🤪

I believe that we will. Jesus mentioned knowing Abraham in Heaven and he met with Moses and Elijah. I fully expect to know friends and loved ones in Heaven.
Christ is ALL KNOWING and can't be used to represent human knowledge.
Aside: Maybe His human nature doesn't know anyone *giggle*

Peter recognized both Moses and Elijah when Christ was transfigured before all of them (Matthew 17:2), which points to the future glorified state of all believers.
Ah, I was expecting this text as proof.
For all we know Jesus had to introduce Moses and Elijah to Peter. Also, it's not as if Peter and John had photographs of Moses and Elijah so how would they be able to ID them from their own knowledge alone. Also, Peter and Paul had not died yet and therefore cannot be used to represent the knowledge of those in heaven.

You just ruined everything, I want you to know. :(

Actually, Moses dies in the trib, for he is one of the two witnesses.

That is not true. Moses did die. "So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD, And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day." Deuteronomy 34:5-6

It is more likely that the two witnesses are Enoch and Elijah because they never died.

So why did Michael have that dispute with Satan over Moses` body. It was because God had a job for him to do.

Now Enoch did not witness anything concerning Christ to be able to tell the people of Israel. A witness needs to have seen or heard something that he can witness to. So let`s look at the 2 men so named in scripture as Moses and Elijah and what they witnessed of Christ.

The Two Witnesses.

`Then behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.` (Luke 9: 30 & 31)

Here we read of the Lord talking to two men, Moses and Elijah concerning what He was about to do - go to the cross. Then later we see these same two men at other significant times - the tomb and the ascension.

`And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they (the two men) said to them (disciples) "Why do you seek the living among the dead? he is not here, but is risen...` (Luke 24: 4 - 6)

`And while they looked steadfastly towards heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven." (Acts 1: 10 & 11)

Thus we see that these `two men,` Moses and Elijah knew of the Lord`s sacrifice, His burial and resurrection and finally His ascension into heaven. They are precisely the two men who will be qualified to talk to Israel in the tribulation, for they represent the `law and the Prophets,` and are a `witness` to the Messiah - His death, resurrection and ascension.

That is why they are called `witnesses.` What have they witnessed? - Jesus on earth, talking of His departure, His resurrection and ascension, plus speaking of His return in like manner. Who best qualified to speak of those things but the two witnesses - eye witnesses - Moses & Elijah.

In Matthew 19:27-28, we read the following. "Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."

This indicates to me that we will recognize the twelve original Apostles.

I don't know what to tell you because the scripture plainly states Moses died and God buried him. The dispute was over the dead body, and I have no idea of the details.

God took Moses and gave him life as we see on the mount of Transfiguration.

They will be in the New Jerusalem whereas we, the Body of Christ will be in the higher heaven on the Lord`s own throne.

Moses came back as a spirit being. The Bible states it is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment. Moses cannot be one of the witnesses in Revelation. It must be Enoch and Elijah.

I do not believe that. New Jerusalem is the capital city of the Kingdom of Heaven, and the 12 Apostles will be known. As such, there is no reason to think we will not be known. We even know angels by name. By the way, the 12 Apostles are part of the body of Christ.

Unless God says so, as in dying once. Remember Lazarus, well he died twice.

That would be a good discussion - Are the 12 disciples part of the Body of Christ? As it is off topic I will not comment further.

That is true about Lazarus, but there is no scripture that says God raised Moses from the dead. Still, you are correct about Lazarus, but it makes no sense that God would take Enoch without him dying for no reason and bury Moses. Lazarus was only dead 3 days. With Moses, we are talking about how many thousands of years? I don't think Moses was raised up physically, but I can't say for sure.

How could they not be? They were around after the resurrection and part of the New Covenant Church? It is relevant for the sake of knowing them in Heaven.

Ok. let me ask you few questions.

1. What did the disciples want to know from Jesus just before He ascended? (Acts 1: 6)

2. What did the disciples preach? (Acts 2: 28)

3. Why did Peter not go to the Gentiles but had to be moved by the Holy Spirit? (10: 28)

4. Why did Peter try to get the Gentiles to act like Jews? (Gal. 2: 11 - 14)

5. Why did Peter say that Paul said some things hard to understand? (2 Peter 3: 16)

6. Why was Paul given the revelation of the Body of Christ and not the pre-ascension apostles? (Eph. 3: 3 - 6)

7. Why are the 12 apostles only kings and not kingpriests as the Body of Christ believers are? (Matt. 19: 28, Rev. 21: 14)

8. Why are the 12 apostles in the New Jerusalem and not on the Lord`s own throne in the third heaven? (Rev. 3: 21)
