Who are they, and where have they come from?

In the book of Revelation we read the following account..

Rev 7:9 After this I looked and saw a multitude too large to count, from every nation and tribe and people and tongue, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands------->13 Then one of the elders addressed me: “These in white robes,” he asked, “who are they, and where have they come from?”

14 “Sir,” I answered, “you know.”
So he replied, “These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Who are they, and where have they come from...was asked. The answer was given...they have come out of the great tribulation. Simple enough....but, what is the "great tribulation"?

Matt 24:21 helps us with an answer when Jesus says:
"For at that time there will be great tribulation, unseen from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again".

Question....Jesus tells us there will BE a future great tribulation...When and what was Jesus speaking of?
Question....who are the ones that have come out of this "there will be...great tribulation"?

Jesus wasn’t talking about the great multitude He was talking about the great wrath of God upon Israel that was about to happen in the generation

The great multitude is the persecuted church that started the day Stephen was killed and is still happening today

Perhaps...but why did Jesus tie it into the "great tribulation".....Certainly the generation around during the time of Jesus didn't face an event such as mentioned in Math 24:21..."For at that time there will be great tribulation, unseen from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again".

Because it was the worst tribulation on Israel they would lose their temple forever they would know that God had abandoned them

If you read Josephus book on the Roman and Jewish war you will see how terrible it was

Yes the Jews lost their temple....Jesus fulfilled what the temple did. Did God abandon them? I say no as many Jews have accepted that Jesus was God who came in the flesh and died on the cross for them. If God abandoned them then that would not happen.

Concerning the temple....the Jews are currently working on rebuilding their temple. Scripture in the bible tells us they will be successful though I believe there will be no "salvation" forgiveness and covering of sin in that temple.

Yes, it was terrible...so was the holocaust. In biblical history we read of the many times the Jews were sacked and taken into slavery. I would say at times the tribulation was greater.

I was saying that God abandoned Israel as a nation of course He didn’t abandon the ones that choose to believe in Him that’s why the Christian Jews left Jerusalem before it was destroyed

I don’t believe that there will be a future temple that’s why the dome of the rock is on the same location which scripture actually predicts it?

I don't think God would abandon a promise made to Israel. Do you?

The bible speaks of a future temple.
Paul speaks of it....2 Thes 2:4... who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

As for the dome on the rock...it will only take one missile to destroy it. Or, perhaps a peace treaty will have the Muslims abandon it.

A conditional promise

You’re assuming that Paul is talking about a future temple. If there is a future temple would it be Gods temple?

A conditional promise
Can you show how it's a conditional promise? Perhaps you're right. If so you should be able to present several verses.

You seem to be assuming Paul isn't talking about a future temple.

Will this temple be Gods temple? I say no. Will it be called the temple of God? It looks like it. The bible tells us the anti-christ will declare himself to be God in that temple.

@Marty ...can you answer the questions in the OP? If you can't, that's fine.
I did in my first post the tribulation that Jesus stated was the wrath of God surrounding the event around and leading up to 70AD that was in the future at the time Jesus said it and the ones in revelation are the persecuted church that started the day Stephen was killed and is still happening today

Read Ezekiel chapter 16

Paul said Gods temple not the temple of God

The temple Paul was talking about is the church as Paul states that we are now Gods temple

God did abandon them because of their actions here

Luke 19:41-44

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

41 And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

My follow up said....Yes, it was terrible...so was the holocaust. In biblical history we read of the many times the Jews were sacked and taken into slavery. I would say at times the tribulation was greater.

You never really replied to that.

I never said the temple to be rebuilt was the temple of God. I explained why that was just a name.

You were given a response...

Was the Holy Spirit ever living in the 2nd Temple?
