Total Depravity

I see this speaking of people who were not acknowledging God in their behavior/speech and boasting in their imaginings.

Is this not an example of an unsubmissive will living independently of God's will,? The segment ends with:

"if anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them,."
Hard for anyone to see. This is a sin of omission. Or not doing.. Thats why I always say, even the born again start as babes, they just started their journey of learning who and what God is and what sin is,

The more mature we get the more sinful we see we are because we start to see God for who he is, and in contrast, who we are

I can see this.

Suggestion on the edit of unsubmissive will?
I don't know. Maybe:

8. Unsubmissive will: Attempts to live independent of God's will.

or

8. Unsubmissive will: Insists on autonomy of will, independent of God's will.

To me your point there still does the same conflating. Granted, though, the ones who think his command is the only will referred to in Scripture, generally are insisting on doing things their way, and assume independence from God's intentions —"God will not force me".

I'm sorry but not acknowledging God is not a "sin of ommission", it is in fact, a very large sin.

"For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves," Romans 1:21-24

It starts with not acknowledging God.

I am sorry. I did not know this was context.

Yes. But I missed that this was the context.

Maybe. I don't see the conflation so much as you do - I don't know. Maybe I'll have to consider why I don't see the conflation like you.

"for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ and move and have our being in Him" Acts 17:28

Radical Depravity in James: Concise with Scripture

James vividly portrays the corruption of the unregenerate human heart, highlighting its total inability to respond rightly to God. This underscores the necessity of God's monergistic work in regeneration.

  1. Unsatisfied Lust:Fallen nature craves sin.
    • James 1:14-15: "But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death."
  2. Unrepentant Heart:Rejects God's Word with anger.
    • James 1:19-21: "...slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness that God requires. Therefore put away all filthiness...and receive with meekness the implanted word..."
  3. Unresponsive Ears:Hears but doesn't obey the Word.
    • James 1:22-24: "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
  4. Unbridled Tongue:Reveals an uncontrolled heart.
    • James 1:26: "If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless."
  5. Unaccompanied Profession:Faith without works is dead.
    • James 2:14: "What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?"
  6. Uncrucified Ambition:Selfishness and jealousy dominate.
    • James 3:14-16: "But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts...For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice."
  7. Undevoted Spirit:Loves the world, not God.
    • James 4:4: "You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?"
  8. Unsubmissive Will:Lives independently of God's will.
    • James 4:13-17: "Instead you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.' As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil."
  9. Undiminished Greed:Craves worldly possessions, mistreating others.
    • James 5:1-6: "Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you...Behold, the wages of the laborers...which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you..."

Its a shame that Lawson succumbed to sin and had to step down as Pastor.

The man had awesome teachings on Reformed/calvinist doctrines.

We all are sinners and that is a fact.

it is sad.. Sadly I think to many pastors have no accountability partners.. I have to wonder. Jesus sent out in twos.. Should not the church do this
