At first glance I could see how some could think so. But keep in mind God’s will is being shown to us. If God is not willing that you be lost and perish, that should be a blessing of assurance. And also you have to understand it in its context.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9.
Think about the comfort and assurance in this verse. Though these Christian’s were being mocked, and persecuted, they are being comforted and assured that God will fulfill His promise. But there are more of His chosen out in the world and even that haven’t been born yet, and God will not loose any. They will come to repentance. When the last elect finally comes, then it’s the end.
Also, God’s word speaks to us as we understand and by doing so, it comforts and assures. God is not subject by time, therefore He does not need patience, those words are for our benefit and assurance.
