Predestination?

All are potentially elect and can be lost

Those in heaven and purgatory are saved and cannot be lost

again..... It didn't ask about the potentially elect

is it possible for the actual "Elect" not to be saved?

All men are potentially chosen in Christ for salvation
Lk 2:10 Jn 1:29
No doubt to you these seem to show your construction, "potentially chosen...for salvation" to make sense. But please, explain, for those of us who don't see that in those verses.

Neither of those verses mentions the notion of being potentially chosen. Ephesians 1:4 says:

“just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,” (Eph 1:4 NKJV)

Not "Just as He potentially chose us in Him."

To God’s elect,....who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood:
- Peter

@donadams
not seeing "potentially chosen"

Just in case you misunderstood my post, that is exactly what I was saying. No "potentially."

@donadams
is it possible for the "Elect" to not be saved?
Absolutely, because "elect" does not = salvation.
The people of the nation of Israel were elected by God, and yet some rebelled and fell into worshipping Baal.
Judas was elected by Jesus but rebelled by betraying Him.
So, not all that were elected are saved unless you believe that betrayers and Baal worshippers end up in God's paradise.
Long story short: "elect" does not = salvation.

Chosen does not = elect
the context in Scripture is "elect unto salvation"

In the NT, does not "the elect" refer to the chosen for salvation?

Are we to not pay any attention the OT?
Does not Paul constantly use the OT to prove what is true?
It was Paul that taught one could fall away, depart from the faith, go astray.
Where do you think he got that concept from?

(Isa 45:4) For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

Of course it does, unless you want to say that you were not chosen before the foundation of the world.
chosen for what?
Salvation...perdition...freeing the Jews...being an apostle?
You can be chosen for any number of things.

I only see the elect as being elect unto salvation.

Yep, one can be chosen/elected for any number of reasons

I only see the elect as being elect unto salvation.
(Isa 45:4) For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

If you only see the elect as being elect unto salvation then you have to assume that every Israelite that chose to worship Baal will be in God's paradise, because we know that people of the elect Israel chose to worship Baal and other gods.

Does elect there mean to salvation, or a special purpose?

Salvation was only by faith in the promise (Ge 5:5-6, seed, Jesus Christ, Gal 3:16).

Does not "the elect" usually refer to salvation?
