"
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed" Galatians 1:8
We reject the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants (D&C), and Pearl of Great Price (Moses) as uninspired, non-authoritative texts. Scripture alone (sola scriptura) defines Christian doctrine, per Reformed theology.
They didn't tell me this!
- You shall be called the children of Christ, his sons and his daughters, Mosiah 5:7.
Scripture teaches that believers become children of God (not “of Christ”) through adoption by faith in Christ alone.
John 1:12 (ESV): “To all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
The Greek teknon (children) denotes familial adoption, not Mormon deification.
- All people must be born again, becoming his sons and daughters, Mosiah 27:25.
Being “born again” refers to regeneration by the Spirit, not becoming Christ’s children. John 3:3 (ESV): “
Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
The term; 'born again' signifies spiritual renewal, not Mormon sonship or ordinances.
- They shall become my sons and my daughters, Ether 3:14.
Scripture denies human deification.
Isaiah 43:10 (ESV): “
Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.”
Believers are adopted, not divinized.
Romans 8:15 (ESV): “
You have received the Spirit of adoption as sons.”
The Greek huiothesia (adoption) precludes Mormon godhood.
- Ye certainly will become a child of Christ, Moro. 7:19.
- All those who receive my gospel are sons and daughters, D&C 25:1.
Christ is the eternal Son, mediating our adoption to God the Father, by grace through faith.
Galatians 4:4–5, ESV: “God sent forth his Son… to redeem… so that we might receive adoption as sons."
Mormonism’s “sons of Christ” doctrine diminishes Christ’s unique role, contra proper exegesis.
1 John 3:1 (ESV): “
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God.”
Sonship is God’s gracious gift through faith, it's not earned or tied to becoming “gods,” as Mormonism claims.
- Many have believed and become the sons of God, Moses 7:1.
True sonship is forensic and relational, rooted in Christ’s finished work (John 19:30, ESV: “It is finished”; tetelestai, Greek for completed).
Mormonism’s deification undermines God’s sole deity and Christ’s sufficiency.
Conclusion: Mormon teachings on becoming “sons and daughters of Christ” or “gods” are unbiblical, promoting a false gospel of human deification.
Scripture affirms believers are adopted children of God through faith in Christ alone, by grace alone, as Reformed orthodoxy upholds.
