Do you have a spiritual gift?

Yeah I know what legally blind is. It isn't that you can't see at all..but have enough visual impairment to go into legally blind status.

I have trouble with double vision when I get tired.
It is a struggle but it also makes you grateful for what little sight you do have.

My eyes were severely damaged about 7 years ago had I not gone to this eye specialist when I did he said we would have not been able to save my eyes

We have been trying to heal them ever since just doing cleaning is nearly impossible for me now.
Sorry to hear that, Brother...praying that the Lord can restore your eyesight...🙏💗

Most people do at some point.

That’s just it as long as the body of Christ exists in this world so do the gifts that edify and build up that body . Those gifts are still at work in the body of Christ. The debate is if the sign gifts are still on operation or not .

Well, I think that in Ephesians 4 ..the measure of the stature if the fullness of Christ.. is the completed canon. So that's where i see ministry gifts ceasing also..but you are right that the real issue is on the sign gifts.

I've got no beef with people into ministry gifts . Sign gifts though .. it affects the sufficiency of scripture and maturity in the faith.

If you've got to speak in tongues to share God's Word with others ... What is scripture for?

If you have to have a gift of knowledge.. what is the knowledge of scripture for?

If you have to prophecy, what is the sufficiency of scripture for?

Point being ..the sign gifts are tied to the revelation of scripture.

You cannot get that from the text in Ephesians 4 but many interpret that is the meaning in 1 Corinthians 13 and even that is debatable with no consensus among believers within Orthodox Christianity.

By through I mean God uses a person...As one example it is through prayer for a person. The person doesn't have the powers. It is Gods power flowing through a person.
But "always"? God certainly does use prayer, but I don't think God is limited to acting in response to prayer; he can do anything he wants.

I'm a coward and a loser and I have no friends. I have a severe mental illness. I'm not a salesperson.
Dave

Your moniker states Dave Regenerated!

That means you are not a coward in the eyes of God. You are loved and already part of God's family who loves you, without knowing you.
Eph 2:19 - 22 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

It means that you are NOT a loser.
Rom 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Join a local church if at all possible and friendships will come.

Lord God, we lift our brother Dave up to you in prayer and ask that you will bring healing and understanding to him. In Jesus Name.

What is a mentor? An elder? I don't attend any church at the moment. Got lots of issues in my personal life.

I think if I do have a gift it is probably discernment. I came out of a cult previously.
Just remember that the "church" is the body of Christ given to serve our Lord and to carry each other along. No Christian is an island ( to borrow a phrase ) and we are commanded to gather together. Coming from the cult of atheism and passing through several other cults along the way ( notably new age elements and Buddhism ) I feel you though. It's hard to trust.

So I don't. People aren't trustworthy. But the Lord is.

That's exactly WHY they ( people ) are there. They are limping along just like me. Just like you. I attend "church" and love the folks around me out of love for my Lord. Apparently they need me to annoy them and in return they tolerate me in love as well.

And since He ( the Lord ) has granted you "discernment" you have the ability to attend to a body that is perhaps less odious than most. Adhering more to the Bible than many. That is a great blessing.

Mentors are those who are able to lead others into the truth of God through His word. No more and no less. They are teachers. Some teach across a broad spectrum of knowledge. Some simply on one subject. Faithfulness perhaps. Or Love.

Elders are those who have been called by God to be servant leaders of the "church". Some are pastors, some teachers, some administrators, ect but all have been limping along longer than most. Elders are not to be new in the faith.

One last word on "gifts". The gifts of the Spirit are recognized by their use. All gifts are intended for the benefit of the "church" at large. They are not your personal toy. You can certainly be personally gifted but the gifts spoken of for the body are for exactly that...the body. So the "gift" you do have ( for the Scripture states that we all have some sort of gift to bless others with ) is for others. Just another reason to gather with other brothers and sisters to worship Christ.

Hope this helps.

Hi Agra

No apology required. I now fully understand your situation and would like to pray for you for healing of your eyesight.
Thank you for understanding and as far as healing for my eyes I am all for it but the healing of the body of Christ comes first that is more important. If you could focus your heart for prayer that the body may be filled with his love and spirit that we may come together as a whole once more and show the world who he really is I want more than anything for the holy spirit to be in accord among us.

If scripture is prophecy..why need prophetic utterance?

If scripture is prophecy..why need prophetic utterance?
The spiritual gift of prophecy is listed among the gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:10 and Romans 12:6. The Greek word translated “prophesying” or “prophecy” in both passages properly means to “speak forth” or declare the divine will, to interpret the purposes of God, or to make known in any way the truth of God which is designed to influence people. Many people misunderstand the gift of prophecy to be the ability to predict the future. While knowing something about the future may sometimes have been an aspect of the gift of prophecy, it was primarily a gift of proclamation (“forth-telling”), not prediction (“fore-telling”).

A pastor/preacher who declares the Bible can be considered a “prophesier” in that he is speaking forth the counsel of God. With the completion of the New Testament canon, prophesying changed from declaring new revelation to declaring the completed revelation God has already given. Jude 3 speaks of “the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (emphasis added). In other words, the faith to which we hold has been settled forever, and it does not need the addition or refinement that comes from extra-biblical revelations.

Also, note the transition from prophet to teacher in 2 Peter 2:1: “There were false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you” (emphasis added). Peter indicates that the Old Testament age had prophets, whereas the church will have teachers. The spiritual gift of prophecy, in the sense of receiving new revelations from God to be proclaimed to others, ceased with the completion of the Bible. During the time that prophecy was a revelatory gift, it was to be used for the edification, exhortation, and comfort of men (1 Corinthians 14:3). The modern gift of prophecy, which is really more akin to teaching, still declares the truth of God. What has changed is that the truth of God today has already been fully revealed in His Word, while, in the early church, it had not yet been fully revealed.

Christians are to be very wary of those who claim to have a “new” message from God. It is one thing to say, “I had an interesting dream last night.” However, it is quite another matter to say, “God gave me a dream last night, and you must obey it.” No utterance of man should be considered equal to or above the written Word. We must hold to the Word that God has already given and commit ourselves to sola scriptura—Scripture alone. got ?

I've been burdened to manifest "Interpretation of Tongues", and occasionally "Prophetic Utterance".
Actually tongues is something God has been hinting at with me. He has been leading me to the real of what he calles divine prayer not mere lip service with intent hoping the answer is yes but actual influence behind it.

I got into contact with someone who told me I have to just start practicing it but this doesn't seem right to me.

It is a spiritual gift so practicing what I don't yet have seems like the best way to get false tongues.
