Greetings,

I am looking to start studying Covenant theology so I can have a better understanding of what it is.

Can anyone reccomend any good websites or books for me to start my research?

Grace and peace to you.

Sproul videos on youtube. Tons of sermons and teaching videos. You can even narrow the subject down by "Sproul on Covenant Theology" or whatever subject you want.

A good book.

  • Michael Horton, God of Promise: Introducing Covenant Theology. A clear and accessible introduction to covenant theology, contrasting it with dispensationalism and highlighting its role in unifying scripture.
  • Meredith G. Kline, Kingdom Prologue: Genesis Foundations for a Covenantal Worldview. A theologically rich and typologically driven exploration of Genesis as the foundation for redemptive history, emphasizing the kingdom structure of God’s covenants.
  • O. P. Robertson, The Christ of the Covenants. A solid introduction that outlines the biblical covenants and their fulfillment in Christ. It is less technical than Kline but still rigorous.
  • Geerhardus Vos, Biblical Theology: Old and New Testaments. A foundational work emphasizing the organic development of covenantal themes throughout redemptive history.
  • Herman Witsius, The Economy of the Covenants Between God and Man. A classic 17th-century treatment of covenant theology from a historical and systematic perspective.
  • J. V. Fesko, The Trinity and the Covenant of Redemption. Explores the concept of the eternal covenant of redemption within the Trinity and its implications for redemptive history.
  • Peter Golding, Covenant Theology: The Key of Theology in Reformed Thought and Tradition. A useful historical overview of covenant theology within the Reformed tradition.
  • Guy Prentiss Waters, The Federal Vision and Covenant Theology. While polemical in nature, it provides a clear and careful defense of confessional Reformed covenant theology.
  • R. C. Sproul, What Is Reformed Theology? Includes a chapter on covenant theology, explaining the covenant of works and the covenant of grace as the backbone of Reformed thought.
  • R. C. Sproul, Knowing Scripture. Discusses the covenantal structure of scripture as foundational for proper biblical interpretation.
  • John M. Frame, Systematic Theology: An Introduction to Christian Belief. This text includes covenant theology within his broader discussion of God’s dealings with humanity but does not develop it as extensively as someone like Kline or Horton.
