If that is the case which I believe it is, then Paul was referring to the rebuilt temple.

Yes, the conditions asserted in scripture of when the two sticks are united again presents a hole in the theory that 1948 was the fulfillment of scripture.

Such as the conditions listed in Jeremiah 31 of peace and safety along with this:

Jeremiah 31​

(34) And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”​

The state of Israel established in 1948 and up to today doesn't come anywhere near those conditions.

Because those conditions are found in Christ.
