The Pope as the Antichrist

I'm not saying there are not antichrist....but it is THE antichrist...top dog...who will declare himself to be God in the rebuilt temple.

Satan top dog the lying spirit that works in the legion of antichrists' he deceived Adam and Eve underdogs, false apostles sent with false prophecy "Neither shall you touch"

Well actually, a lot of Reformers believed the pope was the antichrist.

Pretty much all of them, in fact, along with people like Wesley, Spurgeon, A.W. Pink, etc..

There are various anti-Christs (e.g. anyone who denies that Jesus has come in the flesh; anyone who denies that he is God, etc.); however, the office of Pope fits those attributes that belong to the anti-Christ (sitting in the temple of God (the professing church), proclaiming that he is God; changing times and seasons, titles of blasphemy, etc.).

2 Thess 2:8 And then the lawless one (the antichrist) will be revealed and the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of His mouth and bring him to an end by His appearing at His coming. The coming [of the lawless one, the antichrist] is through the activity and working of Satan and will be attended by great power and with all sorts of [pretended] miracles and signs and delusive marvels—[all of them] lying wonders— And by unlimited seduction to evil and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing (going to perdition) because they did not welcome the Truth but refused to love it that they might be saved.Therefore God sends upon them a misleading influence, a working of error and a strong delusion to make them believe what is false,

Lying signs to wonder after .The only voice of the antichrist, the one spirit of error . Its work of false prophecy began in the garden.

Like why believe in a God not seen . . The fool calling it as it is written foolishness' .

RCism has numerous pretended miracles and lying wonders. It is certainly a misleading influence (an understatement!) and a strong delusion.

I am not convinced that popery is to be the final antichrist character, but thanks for posting something I have not heard…that the empire was the one hindering.
Neither do I think, as some do, that it refers to 70 AD or before. I currently subscribe to the already and not yet interpretation of eschatological scripture. Olivet is a prime example.
I have concluded with near certainty that dispensationalism is all wrong, so that leaves a much less muddy set of choices.

Oh, I agree. There is just so much that the pope seems to have fulfilled in being the antichrist.

By looking through Revelation and considering the pope throughout history, one could swear it's describing the pope and the RCC.

Just a few simple facts get the ball running about the pope and antichrist.

For example, popery insists that Christ governs his entire church by means of a vice-regent, that is, the pope. And that this vise-regent governs all matters. Popery teaches that the Lord appointed Peter to be the general head of the church on earth, that Peter established his chair in Rome; and that he has been general bishop there for 25 years. They also teach that the pope is his successor, that the pope has taken the place of Peter and, therefore is his successor who has taken Peter's place in the papal chair, and likewise as the general head of the church. The RCC also considers the pope to have the authority to appoint vice-regents, cardinals, archbishops, bishops, abbots, prelates, priests, etc... Note, that all of these are inferior to the pope's rank. All of this is an invention and a lie of the RCC. Which is extra-biblical and contrary to the Word of God.

Throughout the years they have called the pope, The Holy Father.

Where in the world does it teach that Peter outranked the others? Scripture obviously teaches that the Apostles were all of equal rank.

Jesus gave them all the same commission.

He's not.

I'd recommend a book called "Romanism and the Reformation from the Standpoint of Prophecy", by H. Grattan Guinness.

Besides where is it even written in scripture that the pope is the successor of Peter? It's not.

Even if Peter had been the head of the church (which he was not), this would have only pertained to himself. I mean, where was it written that he had authority to transfer this office to the bishop of Rome, rather than to the bishop of Antioch?
Peter did visit Antioch (11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. Gal 2:11), but nowhere is it written that he was in Rome.
