The pope claims an authority that was never claimed by Peter.

The RCC claims that Peter was the first pope in Rome and that all other popes from that time are successors to Peter.

I would think the best way to test the legitimacy of that statement would be from Peter himself. Can anyone recall where Peter claimed to be a pope or have any authority over the other apostles?
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 1 Peter 1:1.
 Hmmm, so far, an apostle just like those others. No pope, no authority over the others.

1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock.
Peter 1:5
 hmmm, nope, nothing.
Peter just refers to himself as an apostle of Jesus Christ, an elder, and not a pope. He does not claim himself the highest place in the church, he claims no ecclesiastic superiority. He puts himself and keeps himself on the same level as those he exhorts.

Could be true, but there is no biblical proof.
Might be circular logic, but subsequent popes claim this to be true and I am told they are infallible in such teachings.

Aside: Don't shot the messenger *giggle*

It is sad that the Apostate Church (the Roman Catholic Church) has lied to her people for centuries.
To think, if Peter was actually a pope, he would have declared that fact in one of his epistles, or even another apostle would have.
But instead, we see Paul only considering himself as an apostle, along with the other 11. And as an elder, that is a minister of God.

I know there are many genuine Catholic people out there who love the Lord. So, please consider this.

The RC Church acts contrary to the bible's truths. Is there another reason why you may think there would be proof in scripture?

Actually, they claim infallibility only in matters of faith and morals, when speaking from his chair.

he wasn't "shot" by me. :)

Dark place in need of the light of the gospel. Hoping pray the living word will draw them into the light

I would offer they offer a graceless salvation they must call Limbo suffering wondering for the younger sinners and Purgatory for the more mature,

Worshipers of a queen mother of heaven named after our blessed sister in the Lord Mary .

The non-venerable must obey the oral traditions of mankind living in earthen bodies of death. That they call apostles

She, the lying spirit of Satan the "strange woman spoken of in proverbs (parables) commanded her worshipers to believe she alone received the fulness of Grace the full cost of salvation and the rest of the world an unknown, unknowable remnant and they must continue to suffer and wonder, wonder, wonder. Even teaching she visits comforts the Protestants in purgatory just as well as if the true Queen Mother worshipers

In that way there must be heresies, differences of opinion, denominations, sects, private interpretations (our own personal commentary on what we think the Holy Spirit is teaching

Different oral traditions Christmas, Easter, Hanukah etc can be cerebrated as long as they do not do despite the fullness of grace. Mercy mixed with unmerited powerful grace given to all born again of a new spirit that will not die.

1 Corinthians 11:19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
