The List of Rules...

If anyone is interested, and we can have a Pro Position and a Con Position; we can develop Rules for a Moderated Debate about Calvinism...

I would suggest that the Third Party, the Moderator for the Debate, be able to Score the Debate as it proceeds; and call Fouls which could result in subtracting Points Scored...

Of course, other Rules can be created for a Debate; which can be agreed on. As a Forum Moderator, I can Edit-to-Add any acceptable Rule to this OP; and ask an Admin to Pin it, to make the Rules easy to find...

TEST LIST OF RULES...

1
) This is the Private Debate Board; only the agreed upon Participants are invited to Debates occurring here. Before Debate starts, all participants should acknowledge they've read these Rules. Topics should be short and percise, and pertain to Calvinism's Doctrines; or closely related Topics. Theology is a Valid form of Argumentation. You will be Debating Soteriology, not Bibliology; IE, a Verbatim Verse is not needed to Score Points. Theology will not be called Eisegesis. Staying on Topic is necessary, and changing the Subject can be considered a Foul (IE changing a Topic from Unconditional Election to Unconditional Reprobation, etc). Fouls may also be called for Rudeness, long Posts, not answering questions, etc; anything your Moderator considers to be out of bounds under these Rules...

2) The volunteer Moderator should check in daily, to moderate per request; or in Fairness, moderate on his own Volition. CCAM Forum Rules apply. Per CCAM's Statement of Faith, Christianity will be considered Orthodoxy...

3) If a request for Moderation is made, both Debaters should wait for Moderation before proceeding; to keep from overloading the Moderator...

4) The Debaters will choose their Moderator from CCAM Forum Members, and decide themselves who goes first; one question at a time. No new arguments may be presented in a rebuttal; please keep your responses Consise. Turns between questions will be taken after both Debaters agree on the answer to a question, or after the Moderator Scores a Debater's question or answer. If the Debaters choose a different Format of Debate, and other Rules; this should be made clear from the start, in the OP of their Debate Thread. No changes in Format/Rule will be allowed during the Debate, unless the Debaters AND the Moderator agree; so choose your Moderator wisely...

5) All participant's Scores start at Zero. The Moderator will Score the Debate by adding singular points for answers he Fairly Declares to have Won the Point, and by subtracting singular Points as necessary for Broken Rules; even if keeping Score means someone goes into the Negative...

6) Failing to answer Yes or No questions for the third time a question is asked, will result in accumilating three Fouls; even into the Negative. Accumulating a total of two more of these Fouls by avoiding other questions, results in a forfeit. Quitting the Debate is a Forfeit. Unless an extension is agreed upon by the Debaters AND the Moderator, not Posting for a week is a Forfeit. Five Fouls of any Nature will result in a Forfeit. Conceeding, ends the Debate...

7) In Case of a tie, the Debate is declared a No Contest by the Moderator, and this is accepted by all participants...

8) This is not Court; the Moderator isn't your Advocate, nor is he to be a Tyrant. The Moderator will avoid helping a Debater answer a question during the Debate. The Moderator can hurry-up the Debate; even decide to return to the question later. If the Debater's Argument depends on that question, satisfy the Moderator or accept his Score...

9) Each Debater will agree to Mind the Moderator, and accept the Moderator's Scores/Score. If a Debater feels wronged by the Moderator of the Private Debate, report it to a Forum Administrator. Please wait to Report until after the Debate; unless outsiders are intervening, or harassing you. The Administration will judge the Moderator, and if found unfair; he should be rejected from moderating future Private Debates. Your Moderator will have broken CCAM Rule #18, and face the Consequences...

10) If you don't want to abide by these Rules, please Post elsewhere. Have Fun, Love your Brother; and Glorify God...
Thanks. But it sounds a bit too formal, plus, I really do invite comments by any and all (well, almost all.)

No problem. It's the kind of discussion I'd like; one that holds feet to the fire...

I don't care for #6. One member of CCAM is in the habit of using that style of question, used in a manner that seems to me overly aggressive, where either 'yes' or 'no' validates the worth of the question as stated. I don't play that.

If you decide to have a Moderated Debate here; you, your opponent and the Moderator can agree to change the Rules before the Debate, and list the changes in the OP of your new Debate Thread...

My bad. I was looking at verse 18, not 12. Verse twelve is quite blunt and unyielding. Could be a very good place to start.
It's why I started with it. If Pro and Con keep the Rules, it's a short Debate...

Haven't been able to log in for several days. Don't yet know why.

What's the question?
I didn't have a question, the other Thread was in front of this one. I don't seem to have the ability to Pin this Thread to the top...

The national Christian youth debate league has the Lincoln-Douglas format, essentially:

Pro: 1 min
Con: 1 min
Pro: 5 min
Con: 6 min
Pro: 1 min
Con: 1 min

total 15
(The Con gets the extra minute in exchange for going 2nd)

To adapt to written, you could do proportional #s of lines.

That's cool. How do you think this can be applied here?

Did you read the Rules in this OP?

THE LIST OF RULES...

) This is the Private Debate Board; only the agreed upon Participants are invited to Debates occurring here, though Members can Start their own Debate Thread. Before a Debate starts, all Participants should acknowledge they've read these Rules. Topics should be clearly defined, and pertain to Calvinism's Doctrines; or closely related Topics. Pasting a Linked Setence or small Paragraph is allowed. Theology is a Valid form of Argumentation, and will not be called Eisegesis. A Verbatim Verse is not needed to Score Points, though Prooftexts ARE Biblical and will be allowed in a Debate. We all should know our Bible; if your Opponent mentions a Verse without giving you a Citation, claiming no Scripture has been given is out of bounds. Summarilly decreeing an Opponent's Position isn't real, will not be allowed. Staying on Topic is necessary, and changing the Subject can be considered a Foul (IE changing a Topic from Unconditional Election to Unconditional Reprobation, etc). Fouls may also be called for Rudeness, long Posts, not answering questions, etc; anything your Moderator considers to be out of Order under these ten Rules...

2) The volunteer Moderator should check in daily, to moderate per request; or in Fairness, moderate of his own Volition. CCAM Forum Rules apply. Per CCAM's Statement of Faith, Evangelicalism will be considered Orthodox...

6) Failing to answer a Yes or No question will result in a Warning, afterward Fouls are called for every subsequent failure to answer any Yes or No question; even if the Score moves into the Negative. Quitting a Debate is a Forfeit. Not Posting for a week is a Forfeit. Five Fouls of any Nature will result in a Loss. Conceeding ends the Debate...

7) In Case of a tie, the Moderator will declare the Debate a Stalemate, and it's accepted by all participants. Once the Moderator gives his final Ruling, a Debate cannot continue. If the Participants want to continue, a new Debate is required; and the Moderator can then be substituted...

Are you inviting me into a debate here?
Yes, but not with me. I wouldn't Mind being a Volunteer Moderator. I just wanted you to know this Forum exists, in case you wanted to really challenge someone...
