Why did Pilate have Jesus scourged after declaring Him to be innocent?

Thanks

Pilate did this, hoping the Jews would be satisfied, and agree to his release Jesus...The unjust scourge Pilate ordered was just that...unjust.

Fulfills a prophecy

…and with his stripes we are healed.…

Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Jesus takes our sins upon himself and sheds his precious blood!

Lk 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Precious blood of Jesus, save us!

One drop for sinners spilt, can purge the entire world of all its guilt!

All glory & thanks be to God!

It is a very interesting study, to me, of how pedantically, 'humanly', even artificially, it seems sometimes, that Jesus did some of the things he did, purportedly for the purpose of fulfilling prophecy, or fulfilling all righteousness, with no other reason given. I love how God works by use of the 'weakest' means, to do what we would like to see him do with the flash-bang of Godhood, the "automatic" accomplishment of the will of God. Nothing automatic about it.

Fascinating to me to but the power of God always astonishes men

Do you also like types? Old Testament types or prophetic reality fulfilled in the new?
Thanks

Yes. I get the feeling sometimes, concerning "types", "foreshadowings" and other representations, that there is a huge play on words/ play on facts(?) waiting for us to be amazed at when we see him as he is. I think we will (figuratively) smack our foreheads, saying, "Wow! And there it was, right in front of me the whole time, and I never saw it!"

One of the things I think we will see —or, at least, I think there is something to this thought— comes from knowing that this life is but a vapor, compared to the reality of what is to come. We look to the types, etc, as what the spiritual is patterned off, but that is backwards. Even the real (not theoretical) things, for example, a father, or a pearl —those earthly things are patterned off the real thing in Heaven. —Christ and his work, and the other works of God being the only thing that is the same (and not lesser) than what is found true in Heaven.

Here’s some good one’s

2 Sam 6:12 And it was told king David, saying, The Lord hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.
