Born again?

Why is it sad you wanted scripture?
What do two honest Christians do when the read a verse like Jn 3:5 and find two different ways to understand it? Matt 18:17?

Redemption, Justification, Sanctification, and Salvation!
Close.

Regeneration, Faith (in Jesus Christ and his atoning work for the remission of one' sin), Salvation (from the wrath of God, Ro 5:9), Justification, Sanctification.
Redemption: 100 percent the work of God, thru the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ! All mankind are redeemed in Christ! Eph 2
Galatians 2:16 3:13
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law...
Christ alone accomplished the redemption of mankind apart from any works on our part!

(Redemption is not Salvation)
Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Justification: our acceptance of redemption thru faith and baptism! Become a disciple and member of Christ and His Church! Jn 3:5 acts 2:38 Mk 16:16 He who believes and is baptized shall be saved. 1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Sanctification: the life of grace applied to our souls in the sacraments, prayer, virtue and good works, the just living by faith, and faith working thru love! Phil 1:29 called to suffer with Christ.
All done in Christ thru His grace! Jn 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Salvation: a christian in the state if grace at the moment of death we enter into the salvation of the Lord! Mt 24:44-47 faithful servant! Jn 15:1-5 abide in me. Mt 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Heb 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
Heb 6:11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
Heb 4:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
Rom 13:11 ...for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Suffering required for glorification with Christ!

Romans 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

2 Timothy 2:12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Justification and salvation are not the same rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Jn 15:1-5 abide in Him!

Mk 13:13 Matt 24:13 endure to the end in union with Christ and his saints by grace with good works.

Titus 2:14
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, (redemption) and purify unto himself a peculiar people, (justification / baptism notice purify / wash) Jn 3:5 zealous of good works. (Sanctification) Matt 24:13 endures to the end Shall be saved.
(Salvation)

Then why say it is alone?
Are you saved?
It’s alone we are saved by faith but that faith is not in a vacuum it’s alive and produces fruit, good works as the result . Faith precedes the fruit, works and that by Gods grace which precedes the faith

How does one become born again?

How does one become saved?
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Pe 1:23.

Born again by both written and spoken Word.
The words "for ever' encompasses eternity. Salvation spoken of His Elect before creation within Himself.
It is predestined and ordained.
He will do all His good pleasure.

Close.

Regeneration, Faith (in Jesus Christ and his atoning work for the remission of one' sin), Salvation (from the wrath of God, Ro 5:9), Justification, Sanctification.
No Christ redeemed all men without any involvement on our part.
Eph 2:8

The thief on the cross wasn't water baptized.
I’ve never heard this before. Lol!

The thief don’t apply cos the new. Covenant which requires faith and baptism is not in effect.

Heb 9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
Faith and baptism Mk 16:16 Jn 3:5 & 22 acts 2:38 acts 8:36 Titus 3:5 1pet 3:20-21

One has no good works when one comes out of unbelief into faith.
How does one become born again?
By sovereign act of the Holy Spirit, as unaccountable as the wind (Ro 3:3-8).
How does one become saved?
By faith in and trust on the atoning work (blood, Ro 3:25) and person of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sin.

I’ve never heard this before. Lol!

Because the thief believed in him, Jesus told him he would be with him in paradise that very day.

Before the cross the OT saints were saved by faith in promise (Gen 15:5, seed; Jesus Christ, Gal 3:16).
Heb 9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

Is baptism required for salvation in the new covenant?
Again are you saved?
Thanks

No it’s a result of faith and comes after. It’s the first step of obedience .

Is baptism required for salvation in the new covenant?
Again are you saved?
Thanks
Don, I got in between Matt Slick and an RC arguing on his Radio Show; they were getting nowhere. I broke in, and asked Matt to explain John 5:24. He explained it; and the RC stopped defending the need to be Baptized to get Saved...

Because the thief believed in him, Jesus told him he would be with him in paradise that very day.

That right
But not anymore
The new covenant is faith and baptism
And you cannot enter on your own or by faith alone

Jn 3:5 cannot enter the kingdom until born again (baptismal regeneration)

2 Peter 1:11
For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Christian sacrament of baptism is the Initiation into the new covenant and must be ministered to you by the apostles!
Thanks

Wow. Good Catholic answer. :)

John 3:5 is not baptism by water.

Born of Water in John 3 below:

John 3:1-7. Lets look at the context of Jesus interaction with Nicodemus. All human beings have experienced natural birth on earth, if they expect to go to heaven, they must experience a supernatural spiritual birth from above. Nicodemus was a well educated religious leader who did not understand what the Saviour was talking about. Jesus was speaking about a spiritual birth, but Nicodemus thought of a physical birth. The situation is no different today When you talk with people about being born again, they often begin to discuss their family's religious heritage, their church membership, religious ceremonies like baptism etc....Jesus being a patient teacher picked up on Nicodemus' words and further explained the new birth. To be "born of water" is to be born physically ("enter a second time into his mother's womb") but to be born again means to be born of the Spirit. Just as there are two parents for physical birth, so there are two for spiritual birth: the Spirit of God (John 3:5) and the Word of God (James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23-25). The Spirit of God takes the Word of God and, when the sinner believes, imparts the life of God. Jesus was not teaching that the new birth comes through water baptism. In the NT baptism is connected with death, not birth and no amount of physical water can cause a spiritual change in a person. The emphasis in John 3:14-21 is on believing, because salvation comes through faith. John 1:12-13 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

How does one become born again?

How does one become saved?
It isn't by Baptism and transubstantiation. The new life isn't infused in us to where we need to keep getting filled at Mass. Our nature is changed through regeneration, we are given a new heart of flesh and a new nature.

Don, I got in between Matt Slick and an RC arguing on his Radio Show; they were getting nowhere. I broke in, and asked Matt to explain John 5:24. He explained it; and the RC stopped defending the need to be Baptized to get Saved...
Ya Jn 3:16 too
But baptismal regeneration is part of what we must believe as Jesus says in Mk 16:16 and Matt 28:19 Jn 4:1
Peter in acts 2:38 1 pet 3:21
And many more

The “RC”? The post Vatican 2 & CA modernists don’t speak for the church

The church cannot change doctrine
It is revealed by christ and taught by the apostolic church Matt 28:19 acts 1:8 eph 4:5 Jude 1:3

Promise of God:
Sacred oath:
A promise or sacred oath made by God is called a sacrament:
A sacrament is also the fruit of a sacrifice, grace or the merits of Christ are fruit of His sacrifice on the cross!

The holy sacrifice of Christ, His passion, blood, and death producing unlimited fruits of divine grace, actual and sanctifying grace! Jn 1:29 Jn 1:16-17 Jn 10:10
And they are applied to our souls in the church by faith and the seven sacraments!

“This promise” (sacred oath of God or sacrament) of the Father acts 2:38-39 with reference to ez 36:25-27 Also a mystery Mk 4:11 Eph 5:32 eph 6:19 1 Tim 3:9 3:16 Col 1:27 2:2 4:3

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Ez 36:25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Jn 3:5 born again by water and the spirit.

A promise is a sacred oath or sacrament!
Baptismal regeneration is the promise of the Father for union in the new covenant!

The church and the seven sacraments are necessary for salvation

Better covenant on better promises

2 Timothy 1:1
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

Life of supernatural grace merited by Christ in His passion and death!

An oath to sacramental life in the new covenant in union with the mediator and communion with God, and the saints!

Promise of the Father acts 2:23-39
Promise is an oath and an oath is a sacrament! This promise of the sacrament of baptism refers to ez. 36:25-27

1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

1 Pet 3:20
Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us!
(Ark of Noah a type of the church, member of Christ and his church and salvation by baptism!)
(Outside the ark all died and outside the church there is no salvation!)

St. Paul tells the faithful at Ephesus that they have been “sealed with the promised holy Spirit.” This is in terms of an indelible character imprinted on the soul in the sacraments of baptism and confirmation. It is not as if this invisible mark is simply decorative. Rather, through it, we are enabled to participate in Christ’s mission and in his offices of priest, prophet, and king. Eph 1:13

Sealed by God eph 1:13 in the ark of salvation by baptism just as Noah was sealed by God in the ark of the flood gen 7:16

Sealed in the ark, sealed in the church the ark of salvation by baptism!
Thanks

Nothing about water?
Jn 3:5
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Jn 3:5–8.

Verse 8: the wind (Holy Spirit) where 'it' wants. It mentions nothing about water.
Verse 5: Born of water is being born human (flesh).
Verse 5: Born of the Spirit is the conversion.

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh [such as water], but the answer of a good conscience toward God [conscience, which is Spirit-birth],) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: 1 Pe 3:21.
