It is an extremely tragic irony that when Jesus' opponents started proclaiming their "freedom," in Jn8, they were ironically demonstrating their lack of freedom because of a bad spiritual lineage. While proclaiming their own goodness, they were demonstrating their bondage to Satanic principles and modes of thought. The truth was standing right in front of them, but them could not hear him precisely because he was telling them the truth, but they preferred lies, so they could not hear.

"Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word.
