Women as authority over Men

Do you believe that giving women positions of authority over men has helped or hindered society?

As authority, yes----of course that could depend on how one is defining authority. It does speak of headship, and that is a matter of order and role and responsibility.
hmmm.
I can't recall any instance in scripture that has a woman in an authority position over a man; be it a household, or a church assembly, or a kingship, etc.

As you already know, I have also been admin and moderator at web sites.
But I can still state that it is not ideal to have a woman in authority over men on web sites.
Especially a site that is all about Christianity.
It would be better for men only to protect the site and not place women in that role.
And it makes me wonder if the Christian world isn't playing into the hand of the secular part of the world more than it should be.

it's not that I think women can't do it, it's just that I think it places a women in a situation where she will be yelled at , have their feelings hurt , called names, and just downright disrespected.
I would rather that job be for the men, and let the men protect us women from those type of people.

The prophetess Deborah. Judges 4 and 5.

As admin, I do not have authority over men, but over the moderation of the forum to keep it rule abiding. Being mistreated is the problem of the one doing the mistreating, not the one mistreated. Nothing in the Bible says women won't be mistreated or that that is the reason they are not given headship roles. Men aren't supposed to be mistreated either, but it happens, and if the admin or mod can't take it for what it is and not personal, then, yes, they ought not be in the role.

What you or anyone would rather be the rule, is beside the point. Not everyone feels the same way, it is just your "druthers". Plus, the men on staff do step in and have my back when that happens using the moderation tools. If there was another woman on board, which I wish there was, she would do the same. As would I, whether man or woman was being abused by members.

What man did she have authority over?
Every man in Israel!

Judges 4:4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at the time.

Good Morning Everyone,

According to Deborah, the Proverbs 31 woman, Priscilla, Junia, and the prophetesses in Corinth, (godly) women who are in positions of leadership over men help society more.

Today's political climate (intranational and international) is a result of sin and that sin takes a few different particular forms, such as the undermining of the gospel by some within the Church, abuse of gender concepts*, the failure of men to govern justly at all levels (including that of the family), the failure of some in the Church to correctly understand and apply the scriptural precedents I cited, the foolishness conflating or confusing matters like potential and ability, equality and equity, complementarity and hierarchy, and the simple fact that in a sinful world power corrupts.

Btw, Nancy Pearcey's "The War on Toxic Masculinity: How Christianity Reconciles the Sexes" is worth the read (as is just about everything that woman writes).

I also suspect the wording of the inquiry is incorrect. Is the question supposed to be, "Have women in leadership been more of a help to society or more of a hinderance to society?" All help helps society more. Sex has nothing to do with that.

And the problem with that is........, what, exactly?

I was not aware that having one's feelings hurt matters when it comes to helpful leadership. Perhaps one reason for not having a particular type of woman in leadership has been provided. I wonder: Do you see the irony in this op? Are you a woman, @Tambora?

1. Since most sports require strength and since men, in general, have more strength than women.

2. I don't know because I'm not familiar with any studies about it.
Females outperform males in ultra-distance running, ultra-distance swimming, shooting, acrobatic gymnastics, skating, rodeo barrel racing, and childcare (where they often have authority over males ;)). Not all sports are about physical strength.

PrI'm an anti-feminist—not because I despise women (how could I when I am one!), but because I cherish what God has designed. Everything modern feminism has touched has deteriorated: marriage, motherhood, men, and even the dignity of womanhood itself. Far from liberating, it’s leading society not into progress, but into ruin—a moral dark age dressed up as freedom.
That isn't because they are women, just to add a perspective. It is because they are born sinners. Every good thing is eventually corrupted. That doesn't mean the baby should be thrown out with the bath water.

Look at the alphabet community and all the woke people on the band wagon, screaming for, not equal rights, but more rights and who are bigots against those who adhere to the rule of God's law on the matter. Demanding that they be exalted. Even in racial issues this has taken over. The idea of putting one side down in order to raise up the other side. The command of God in regard to these things and how people are treated is clearly stated. All people are creations of God and are to be treated respectfully as such.

Romans 12:20-21 To the contrary, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heep burning coals on is head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Proverbs 24:17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles, (That is wisdom from the book of godly wisdom.)

There were wrongs being committed, that goes without saying. But the answer to the wrongs is not to commit another wrong that corrupts society at its core @Tambora Men and women, in equal measure, are guilty of corrupting the created order of the God given responsibilities of the genders. And the Bible does not picture the woman's role in society as barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen. Note that Proverbs 31 does not have the godly woman pictured that way. It has her caring for the home and family, honoring her husband and also out in society, being busy and helpful to her husband and family, bringing glory to God. And the truth of the matter is, we cannot fix the problem or problems because of the fallen nature and the fallen world. Only God can and he has been busy at doing that very thing since he announced it in Gen 3:14-15, and told us what this world would be like for us and it, until all his people are gathered to Christ and Christ returns.

You try being a woman on a forum where you get involved in a debate over, say something like the Trinity, or Predestination V Free Will
or Biblical proof if Jesus is God....

Those kinds of things and you are right there with the men..... and all is well until... somehow it comes out that you are a woman....

I have been in a few like that... and each time once it is known that a woman (me) sticks to her beliefs its like I am the fox and they are the fox hunters.

Its alright. I grew a real backbone over the years.

Also... I was self employed and while there was a certain respect for that... the male vendors always favored the male clients.

I think a woman teaching in a church... I am talking from the pulpit would be less then optimum from the standpoint that if
they did not loose congregants, the members would not hold to being taught like if it were a man.

Its alright. I grew a real backbone over the years.

Have you anything op-relevant to contribute to this discussion? This thread is not about whether or not, the degree to which, or empathy with the suffring of women in discussion boards. This op asks one fairly simple, readily answerable question:

Do you believe that giving women positions of authority over men has helped or hindered society more?

I read your op-reply. It does not actually answer the question asked.

Nevermind.

Never fails to happen.

Or .... you became desensitized of how people react instinctively.

Given enough time it never fails to happen.
Think it might be instinctive?

I'm gonna ask again if you think it might be instinctive?
I think it is.

All the men who stood before her for adjudication, to include the king when God put words in her mouth.

Every man in Israel!

Judges 4:4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at the time.

I don't think Judging means the same as to rule over.
One can judge another without being the ruler of them.
I don't believe Deb was made the ruler of Israel.

Then maybe rethinking is in order. Is that situational ethics. Finding a way to justify one's preferences.

A woman being a mod on a forum is her having authority over men, but a woman standing as judge over all Israel (who then had no king) is not a woman having authority over men? Hmmm.

On the other hand, it may just be that you are not aware what it meant to be a judge in Israel.

This came up as addressed to me. ?????

You replied to me, I was going to say something but decided in the end against it.

All is well. I often don't sound nice. But I think you had mistook me somewhat, but then the reply wasn't really vindicating.

But I'm not saying to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I'm saying that 5th wave feminism killed the baby, probably about the same time they went with human sacrifice for kicking off political events.
