I would say it is a combination of 1 and 3. with God as the first cause and us as relating to us meeting our responsibility to submit to God and what He teaches us. It is God who transforms us more and more through His word as teacher and revealer. And changed behaviors and good deeds are not the only fruit produced. Growth in the things of God is also fruit.

These things come about when we spend time communing with Him in prayer and thanksgiving and worship and supplication, and in His word. That part is our responsibility as the second party in a relationship of two. The triune God and the individual.

Actually I was simply thinking in terms perhaps of cooperation between man and God maybe as illustrated in this one verse..
