Since sanctification is also by grace, which of the terms would best describe one who is professing Christ?...

1. They will bear fruit. (indicative)
2. They ought to bear fruit. (passive)
3. They should bear fruit. (provisional)
4. They must bear fruit. (imperative)

All of the above.
1. They will bear fruit. There is always a change in the person when they are first united to Christ, no matter how small that is, and that is fruit. He is the Vine who produces the fruit.
2.They ought to bear fruit. It is the duty of a child of God to bear the fruit of children of the Father. They are supposed to bear fruit.
3.They should bear fruit. It is the natural consequence of being in Christ.
4. They must bear fruit. Any branch that does not bear fruit is not in the Vine.

I guess a follow up series of questions are called for...

The 'kind and amount of fruit' is determined by...

1. the Vine Dresser (God)
2. fruit inspectors (others)
3. the fruit tree itself (self) (see #2 from your answers)

I would say it is a combination of 1 and 3. with God as the first cause and us as relating to us meeting our responsibility to submit to God and what He teaches us. It is God who transforms us more and more through His word as teacher and revealer. And changed behaviors and good deeds are not the only fruit produced. Growth in the things of God is also fruit.

These things come about when we spend time communing with Him in prayer and thanksgiving and worship and supplication, and in His word. That part is our responsibility as the second party in a relationship of two. The triune God and the individual.

In a way, everyone here is right; but you may be thinking about "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?"

Actually I was simply thinking in terms perhaps of cooperation between man and God maybe as illustrated in this one verse..

1. Romans 15:1 ESV
We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

2. Romans 15:1 BSB
We who are strong ought to bear with the shortcomings of the weak and not to please ourselves.

Romans 15:1 NIrV
We who have strong faith should help the weak with their problems. We should not please only ourselves.

Romans 15:1 NLT
We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves.
