If someone were to ask you, "What is the gospel?"
How would you answer it?

What is the gospel?

Sproul: Who [Jesus] is, what he did, and how we receive his benefits.
God became man, to take the punishment upon himself of those to whom, undeserving, God chose to show mercy, and he changes them from death to life, to be with him forever.

Note how closely that parallels what we think of as God's covenant with us.

Jesus Christ is the messenger, and the message —the message is about him. He is God, the source of life.

The gospel is the good news that God saves sinners through Jesus Christ. All of redemptive history flows from the eternal plan of God and finds its fulfillment in Christ, to whom all of scripture points—from the first promise after the fall to the ratification of the new covenant in Christ's blood. Although we all have sinned and deserve death, God sent his Son to live the life we failed to live, die for our sins, and rise again for our justification. Everyone who repents and believes in Christ is forgiven, reconciled to God, and receives eternal life.

The Doctrines of Grace need to be included in any explaining of the Gospel of Gods Grace. Acts 20:24

24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

Can that be done without emphasizing the election of grace in the purpose of Gods Salvation ? Rom 11:5-6

5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works:
otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

As you can see Paul uses "election of grace" and by grace interchangeably, and surely when testifying of the Gospel there is a mention that salvation is by grace.

Yes but not Just all sinners are included in the people He purposed to save Matt 1:21

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

2 Tim 1:9

9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

This purpose and grace is brought to light by the Gospel Vs 10

10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

1 Corinthians 15:1-8
1 Moreover, brethren, I make known unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye hold fast the word that I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you of most importance which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4 And that He was buried and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,
5 And that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
6 After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain until now, but some are fallen asleep.
7 After that, He appeared to James; then to all the apostles.
8 And last of all, He appeared to me, as to one untimely born.

God sent his Son to live the life we failed to live, die for our sins, and rise again for our justification
Most people stop there and forget about Christ ascention and return at the rapture then again at the second coming.

True, but incomplete (not that mine did the job either). In my estimation, the gospel preached by the Arminian or Pelagian, or, for that matter, the many varieties that fall in there somewhere, is a perverted gospel, by leaving out just what/who God is, and the Son of God is, and how we are born again, and to what end —"Heaven" being a weak 'healed of sadness' concept— and, particularly, what Grace is, and all its implications such as what sin does. This is why I say that being born again is not our choice until after the Spirit has already regenerated us. If we try to put it in a nutshell, the meaning behind the words we come up with includes a whole realm of fact that is pretty much meaningless to the unbeliever, and is beyond the initiate (and even the mature) to comprehend. It is the work of the Spirit of God to comprehend and engage the facts.

Mankind has been a sinner since the first man, Adam, transgressed against God and, along with Eve, was thrown out of the Garden of Eden, losing access to the tree of life.

As a result of being a sinner he is now alienated from the Holy, perfectly righteous God who made him, and who is the source of life and goodness.

Our world as we know it is now full of evil, suffering, and death. Even so, God's glory and mercy, power and perfection, are not concealed for they shine through in all of creation. And he makes a promise to all humanity of all time, that the seed of the woman would crush the one who deceived Eve in the Garden ----the serpent's head.

There is nothing that a person can do to change himself from being a sinner into not being a sinner. Nothing he can do to reconcile himself to God. Only God can do that. Only he can undo what Adam did to the hearts and souls of mankind. To do that someone must meet the full requirements of God's justice against sin in the place of the sinner. If no human can do that, as all humans are themselves sinners, who can do it?

He sent the Son , who is God of very God, eternally with God, in the likeness of mankind, to offer himself to pay their sin debt. His name is Jesus. Born of a woman as promised, a virgin, God himself his Father.

During his time as one of us the Son fulfilled all righteousness, being without sin, and was nailed to a cross to suffer and die for our sins. He substituted himself for us. What manner of love is this!

He remained in the grave for three days. God, accepting the Sons atonement for sin, raised him from the dead. For forty days he spoke with his disciples and then returned to where he had been before, to the Father, and is there at the Father's side, interceding on behalf of all those who believe and put their trust in him. He stands as a mediator between God and man, cleansing all who come to him, imputing his righteousness to them, fully reconciling them to God. By grace and through faith one is saved from the wrath of God against sin and the sinner. It is a glorious thing he has done!

One day he will return. The unbelieving will be judged and condemned because their sins have not been atoned for. Only Christ can atone for sins. There will be a new heaven and a new earth. The old will pass away and the new will come.

This is what it will be like: (Rev 21:3-6)
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, no pain anymore, for the former things have passed away>" And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.: And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end."

No it doesn't. Jesus comes back twice. At the resurrection/rapture event then at the end of the seven year tribulation.
I'm not going to discuss it here. If you would liketo discuss it you can start a new thread.

Meanwhile I see the ascention then return at the resurrection/rapture...then actual second coming 7 years later as part of the gospel".
Mod Hat: Do not go there and hijack the thread!!! The thread is not about eschatalogical hypotheticals.

Most people stop there and forget about Christ ascention and return at the rapture then again at the second coming.
Why tell them something that isn't true because it contradicts scripture? Do not hijack this thread.

1. No they don't. Those are things we learn and we cannot learn them until we are born again of the Spirit. Yes, salvation is by grace, yes, that is important, yes the DOG are important. But the way of that grace is through faith---believing. What do we have to believe? Who Jesus is and what he did and why it was necessary.

2. Yes. God does the electing. God does the regeneration. God gives the faith. Not our theological wisdom.

Our job in preaching the gospel is to make Christ and his work and our need, known.

See I disagree with you, Salvation by Grace to me is a fundamental doctrine of the Gospel.

You were proposing that the Doctrines of Grace needed to be a part of preaching the gospel to an unbeliever. The DoG are the doctrines in TULIP.

Read my post #10. I say it is by grace.

Yeah, the doctrines of Grace emphasis is on grace salvation. The Doctrines of Grace provide the framework. Jesus preached election in His sermon in Lk 4 and folk was ready to kill Him. In Jn 6 He taught total depravity, election, perseverance, the effectual call. Jn 10 was about limited atonement. Most of His hearers were unbelievers. What about the gentile women He told He came only for lost sheep of house of Israel ? She wasnt discouraged because she was given the gift of faith in Him. And the Apostles preached what He preached

My question is how say you its by Grace without mention of its by election of grace ?Paul equates them one and the same Rom 11:5-6

Paul is writing to people who are already saved. They know it is election and by grace, In all the epistles it is presumed that as established churches, they already know the doctrine of effectual grace in unconditional election. Paul states the doctrine in his use of language but he is not specifically teaching the doctrine of unconditional election. Salvation by grace and election/predestination are two different doctrines that are related to each other.
