I had a stroke Thursday morning. i'm doing well considering how bad thingsd could have been but I've lost use of my left side. Left leg still works a little (Hemiparesis) I'm at rehab now , hoping to be home by Friday or Saturday, even though I'm told that's too ambitious.

Physical therapists and neurologists say yes, based mainly on the progress made in just a few days, but i fell twice today tryiing to accomplish more independently (read: unsupervised) than my body would permit. "I'm having a lot of difficulty with my left hand/arm. Can't grip anything with my left hand . The staff is nice (they put up with me) but I don't like it here. All the televangelism (Paul and Janic Crouch, Joel Olsteen) reminds me of that Far Side cartoon about Charlie Parker in hell. Who knew they spent so much time hawking food late night???? (Bone broth, VInnia,"biblical diet,"etc.) I immediately thought of @Buff Scott Jr; It's kind of embarrassing to call myself "Christian." when thinking about those charlatans Maybe it'll all turn around tomorrow.

Don't overdo or underdo. I am sure you have never heard that before!

Can you ask for a different room? I feel for you there, I would be furious all the time and that can't be good for your recovery. Occasionally as I am scrolling through you tube a Paula White short will show up. I click on it and an so angry, and flabbergasted at the outright blasphemy, I can't even get through one minute of it.

Proud to call myself Christian after five minutes with her. We talked briefly about doctrinal difference with Osteen but she's not well-versed, theologically speaking.She's more "beatific."

the roommate's wife is delightful. She has a real servant's heart and she's endured a lot. husband had Parkinson's when he had a stoke lst november. The stories ahe was telling about insurance and lack of medical coordination of services was saddening yet she's reained incredibly hopeful and kind. Proud to call myself Christian after five minutes with her. We talked briefly about doctrinal difference with Osteen but she's not well-versed, theologically speaking.She's more "beatific."

Well, that cut my heart to the quick! In a good way. It exposed my intolerance and revealed your ability to be in the midst of bad theology and see the light in the child of God.

Televangelists, they're listening to ther Trinity Broeadcast Neteworkso i get to watch Joel Osteen (who i definitely NOT a prophet)Paul Crouch and his wife,Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, and some young kid I don' know named Joseph Prince. Oh! and futurist Robert Jeffrees. It's challenging to listen to so much wanton eisegesis and not want to get up out of bed, drive to Texas and preach correction. They'd probably tell me i don't have enough faith or I'd be healed of this stroke.

Update: i had physical therapy with the head of the depeartment this morning i walked about 20 feet using a walker. It was fatiguing, She says Im not doing as weell as I think(or have been told). Ive got to keep my left foot pointed forward and not turned outward turn. Stop dipping when placin my weight on the left leg (good way to fall, apparently, and do my turns with the walker better.......... so new set of goals t0 reach for tomorrow. all that and stamina; I went back to sleep upon returning to the room. an i'm still tired now at 11:00 (my time). The misussus should be by shortly. The Center is celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a Mariachi band and taco bar. I suspect Mexicn tap dancing is out but maybe I'll scarf down a few tacos. Spoke to an elderly woman during pt and she's walking like she was born with a walker and she' been her only three weeks. keep finding little places of encouragement. best part was i went outside today and its sunny and warm.

I also had afrom the Center's psychiatrist today. Each specialty has to do their own intake exam and he came down to do his thing. I threw him for a loop when he asked if I'd ever taken any psychotropic drugs. "Sure. In my twenties I took all kinds, Darvon, Darvocet, dexamphetamine, LSD The anheuser-Bush logo tattooed on my bicep should have clued him. He was visibly relieved, when i explained it was past recreationsl drug use and I'm nearly a teetotaler now. I've administered hundreds of these exams to others so i was breezing through the exam the exam and when he asked what i do for a living and he heard I am a retired psychologist and mental health counselor and now own a boutique fitness Pilates studio, he folded his notebookclosed, grinned, and said, "well, it think that will be enough questions for today. Let me know if you need anythng further, Mr. Bashebeth," and he left.

But the MMSE wisn't finished, doc .

I guess it's true what they say.

Update: i had physical therapy with the head of the depeartment this morning i walked about 20 feet using a walker.

I don't know, I think you're doing well already! When I was awaken from a 10 day coma 13 yrs ago, I was 54. It took a week just to put weight on my legs and stand. Another 2 wks before I could walk 10ft without nurses, using a walker. A month later, I was still using a walker. So hang in there, you're doing it in your own timing. Today, I run cross-country a couple miles, at 66 yrs old. Soon you'll be running a marathon, lol!
