Incorrect.I think taking over Kharg Island with US military forces is what they will have to do in order to stop Iran, as the leadership elements seem to be fragmented. Only this key pressure point will bring them all into agreement, but what will the result be is the question...
A quick lesson on OIL WELLS. Oil wells need to pump continuously. Shutting down an oil well requires a technically complex process to restart it that can take MONTHS. Every country (including Iran) only has a finite capacity of storage in its Oil Tank farms. The oil in those storage tanks on Kharg Island must be loaded onto ships to make room for more oil being pumped from the wells.
The US Blockade is removing INCOME from Iran by preventing ships from selling Iranian oil to China (via Malaysia). It is also preventing ships from removing oil from those storage tanks on Kharg Island. As the ships in the port fill and the tanks fill, Iran will have no choice but to stop pumping. THAT will disrupt Iran oil production for YEARS to come as they struggle to restart so many wells.
That is the end game here. A blockade that triggers economic collapse and forces the hard-liners to the negotiating table to surrender the Enriched Uranium. The military campaign is over (except defending against terrorist attacks, which is nothing new) and the economic war continues (only now the "sanctions" have the US Navy giving them teeth).
