I have been reflecting on a particular feature present on message boards like ours, namely, the ratio of messages posted to positive reaction scores received. For example, one person who has been here for a while may have received 1,200 positive reactions to the 3,750 messages that he has posted, while another person may have received 3,950 positive reactions to her 3,750 messages.

How might members of this board approach and make use of this curious ratio?

Well, I came up with an idea that may be helpful to some:

On this message board, you can make it a goal to try and keep your average reactions per message (ARM) as close to 1 as possible.

For the first person, their ARM would be

1,200 reactions ÷ 3,750 messages = 0.32
For the second person, their ARM would be

3,950 reactions ÷ 3,750 messages = 1.05
And here is how these numbers could be interpreted:

If your average is close to 1: It means that, on average, almost every message you post is well-received and gets a positive reaction. You are doing a good job of engaging the community and providing content that resonates with people.

If your average is significantly above 1: While this sounds great in theory, it might also be a sign that you're focusing too much on easy wins or catering to a specific audience. Maintaining an average around 1 indicates a healthy balance of engagement and diverse content.

If your average is significantly below 1: It means many of your messages aren't getting positive reactions. This could be a sign that you need to adjust your approach—perhaps by posting content that is more relevant, or less hostile, or invites more reflection.

First of all .... I am stuck on 113 points. I notice @makesends , @Arial , @Eleanor and @Carbon also have 113 points. Is there a way to give me 1 more point in order to give me "bragging rights"????
Aside: This assumes you don't give more points to the before mentioned persons.

Next ... the foundation of how reaction scores is formulated is based on relationships and common thoughts in regard to theology. There's no way a Muslim is going to compete with most Christians on this site. I guess I'm saying that the stats are more for entertainment than assessment.

* oh, this I mention I need one more point ... 114 please *

I always thought in every area of life, points were earned not given by grace. :ROFLMAO: Let the race begin?

If you get another point, it is only by the grace of God. No bragging rights.

(Aside: Are you Jewish, by chance? Paul has a message for you.)

:unsure: maybe God's grace will grant me bragging rights and cause you to be jealous.
:unsure: seems you've been a member for 9 more days than I .... so, given you've had more time to accumulate points I think my 113 score wins in the circumstance of a tie ...

That is excessively introspective. I don't even like my mirror, nevermind my fluoroscope. (Yes, I am that old. I remember being told to look for bugs crawling around on my ribs, back before x-rays were considered dangerous in South America. (Polar opposite vs US?))

Well, I'll vote for you. I don't want the publicity.

@Carbon @Arial @makesends
Wow!!! To the administrators of this website ... Thank you very, very much for granting my wish and giving me my 114th point.

@makesends ... you may be very smart and educated, but you don't have 114 POINTS like me !!! Eat your heart out!!

Nevermind.

This hurts. Man, this is a blow! I'm away for a few hours, and being one of the staff, I, like @DialecticSkeptic before me on another matter, was not given opportunity to vote.

But, let the will of the Lord be done, and let it be accepted in all humility. In fact, I want 113 to be my cap, because I want my great humility to be visible to all.

Hmmm. Sounds like too much introspection to me. I usually come out on the losing end when I introspect.

I'm working on coming across as needy and humble, to garner sympathy and encouragement points.
