The gospel of being saved by faith, not by works, contradicts the supplemental teaching of being saved with works following.

The problem is it depends on a game with words, that accepts 'with' works, but rejects 'by' works, which has no grammatical significance, and is not ever used by God to make a difference pertaining to faith and works.

It's why Paul condemns playing word games with the gospel and doctrine of Christ, because it only produces endless useless arguments over words, rather than promoting godly living;

1Ti 6:4
He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

And as well all disengenuous games, it backfires in the end. In this case, salvation by faith, not by works, fails any time works accompany salvation, and are accepted with salvation. Such as being saved with works following.

Being saved by faith alone without works, forbids ever being saved with any works at any time, where at the first or following, at a later time.

Is not salvation by faith, also with faith? Yes. Is not salvation by faith always with faith? Yes. So then the gospel of salvation by faith can never be without faith.

And so, if salvation is ever with works, then salvation must be by works, else salvation with faith is not by faith.

Therefore, if someone preaches the gospel of faith, not by works, then the salvation must always be without works, and only by faith alone. Esle salvation with works becomes by works.

But if anyone preaches the gospel of salvation by faith with works following, then they must preach being saved by works following. Else by faith can be without faith, since with works cannot be by works.

Therefore, the gospel of salvation by faith with works following, is being saved by faith and not yet by works.

This is why justification by works is with works following salvation by faith.

God's salvation is never by faith alone, which would be never with works now nor later. That is the false gospel of salvation by faith alone without works, and never by works.

The gospel we see in Eph 2 and James 2, is that salvation is by faith with works following, to be justified by works with faith.

If no man can be justified by works with saving faith, then no man can be saved with works by faith. Else salvation with faith is not by faith, even as salvation with works is not by works.

Making the difference between faith and works is one thing, but changing the divine principle of by and with faith, to with and not by works, also must then apply to with the will of God, and not by His will.

We add Titus 3 to make difference between the works to be justified by, and those works never justified by God: No works of man's own will and righteousness, which can be boasted of, can justify any man with God.

Only God's works following salvation by faith, that we do through Christ Jesus, can justify every man who is saved by faith in God.

1Pe 1:18

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

1Pe 1:19

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1Pe 1:20

Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

1Pe 1:21

Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

Can a person have faith and not be faithful? Can a person have faith and be faithless, not faithful?

Can a person have faith and not be faithful? Can a person have faith and be faithless, not faithful?
Correct. Neither can a person be faithful while doing unrighteous works.

Unless of course it's being faithful to doing unrighteousness.

In Ephesians 2:8-10, it denies that our salvation is the result of our works lest anyone should boast while also saying that we are new creations in Christ to do good works, so we should not mistake denying that our salvation as the earned as the result of works as denying that being a doer of works are intrinsically part of our salvation. In other words, while there is no amount of works that we are required to have done first in order to result in becoming saved, that does not mean that being saved does not intrinsically involve being doers of works. Our salvation is from sin and sin is the transgression of God's law, so Jesus leading us to do good works in obedience to God's law is the way that he is saving us from living in transgression of God's law.

Our salvation is a gift and gifts can't be earned as the result of our works, however, doing works can be intrinsically part of what the content of the gift is. For example, the content of a gift can be the experience of doing something, such as giving someone the opportunity to experience driving a Ferrari for an hour, where the the gift intrinsically requires them to do the work of driving it in order to have that experience, but where doing that works contributes nothing to detract from the opportunity to drive it being given to them as a gift. In a similar manner, the content of God's gift of eternal life is the experience of knowing God and Jesus (John 17:3) and the gift of God's law is His instructions for how to have that experience (Exodus 33:13, Matthew 7:23), not something that we are required to have done first in order to earn eternal life as the result. Doing good works is the way to express our faith and it is by that faith that we are saved.

Correct. Neither can a person be faithful while doing unrighteous works.

Unless of course it's being faithful to doing unrighteousness.
Then the op is wrong and you've just contradicted yourself.

Now, before you explode in unnecessary adversariness, take a breath and think about your own posts. Don't get upset AT me simply because I noted a discrepancy. Look at it for yourself and see if you can see it for yourself. Perhaps this will help.

Faithfulness is just another word for works.

Since you agree faith begets faithfulness and faithlessness is a problem, that part in the op that says, "The gospel of being saved by faith, not by works, contradicts the supplemental teaching of being saved with works following," needs some minor amendment(s). To the degree faithfulness is synonymous with works that sentence would read, "The gospel of being saved by faith, not by faithfulness, contradicts the supplemental teaching of being saved with faithfulness following," and I suspect that is not what you intended to communicate (at least I hope it is not what was intended). It is a minor but very important correction that needs to be made, one that is easily made AND one that is quite relevant to the op's next statement because words are very important. It's not a matter of "word games."

On the other hand, if you truly meant to say salvation with faithfulness is contradictory to salvation by faith and not by works then please confirm that for me and I'll take up that conversation with you because I believe that view is incorrect.

In Ephesians 2:8-10, it denies that our salvation is the result of our works lest anyone should boast
Correct. No works any man does without Christ, are justified by God. Whether by law, our own righteousness, sacrifice, or philanthropy.

Only the new works of newborn sons in Jesus Christ, can justify a person with God.

so we should not mistake denying that our salvation as the earned as the result of works
Judging all works the same, is blindness to God judging works unto justification or to condemnation.

God only the justifies the works we do by His Son. God rejects all other works of man as justifiable with God.

that does not mean that being saved does not intrinsically involve being doers of works.
Correct. We are only justified by the good, righteous, and holy works of God, that we repent to do through Jesus Christ.

Those are the works in context of James 2, and are specifically referred to in 1 John 3.

Mark
{4:12} That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and [their] sins should be forgiven them.
Acts
{3:19} Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; {3:20} And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:

Our salvation is from sin and sin is the transgression of God's law,
Exactly.

Ezek
{18:27} Again, when the wicked [man] turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. {18:28} Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

Matthew
{1:21} And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

so Jesus leading us to do good works in obedience to God's law is the way that he is saving us from living in transgression of God's law.
Exactly. By obeying God to repent of all our sins and trespasses for Jesus' sake, Jesus can then walk us through doing all things pleasing to God.

As Daniel told the king at Babylon,

{4:27} Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquility.
Without first breaking off the old works, no man can do all new works through Jesus Christ.
The sinners' religion of half-hearted break from the old life, is unacceptable and unjustified to Jesus Christ.

Hosea
{7:8} Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.
Rev
{3:16} So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Progressive religion and sanctification by man to only sin less than before, is not the pure religion of Jesus Christ to sin not at all as before.

In a similar manner, the content of God's gift of eternal life is the experience of knowing God and Jesus (John 17:3) and the gift of God's law is His instructions for how to have that experience (Exodus 33:13, Matthew 7:23),
Exactly, which is only given freely to them that repent of old sins and trespasses for Jesus' sake.

Ezek
{18:31} Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? {18:32} For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn [yourselves,] and live ye.

Acts
{17:30} And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

No part of the old life is accepted into the kingdom of His dear Son Jesus Christ.

Matthew
{9:17} Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

We either make a whole new clean break from the old, or we continue with the old (whether more or less) unto death.

Jesus Christ only accepts total unconditional surrender to forgive, forget, and become both Lord and brother of the newborn sons of God.

Jesus Christ is not a Lord to be mocked by conditonal surrender of His defeated enemies:

Eph
{6:7} Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. {6:8} For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

He is either Lord of all, or not at all.

not something that we are required to have done first in order to earn eternal life as the result.
It's certainly true, that salvation and justification by Christ is not earned by any works we have done without God.

Titus
{3:3} For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, [and] hating one another. {3:4} But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, {3:5} Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

No matter how many past good works we may have done, along with our works of iniquity, none of the old life without Christ has any merit to save nor jsutify us with God

However, resurrection from the dead unto life is the reward of inheritance, for the new creatures that now serve Him in righteousness and true holiness unto the end of this life.

1 Thess
{3:23} And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; {3:24} Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. {3:25} But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

No man is worthy of being saved by our own works we can boast of, but without being made worthy by Christ to inherit His eternal kingdom, no one willl be resurrected to walk in white with Him forever.

Luke
{20:35} But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: {20:36} Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
Eph
{4:1} I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, {4:2} With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Rev
{3:4} Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. {3:5} He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Doing good works is the way to express our faith and it is by that faith that we are saved.
It's also the only way of Jesus Christ to the Father, and so to abide forever.

1 John {2:17} And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

{2:18} Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

Only those doing the will of God in the end, will abide forever with Him. Those not doing the will of God, will not abide with life beyond the grave.

An antichrist doctrine is any gospel of being saved and justified, while not doing the will of God at anytime on earth.

Job
{36:10} He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity. {36:11} If they obey and serve [him,] they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. {36:12} But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

2 Peter
{4:17} For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God? {4:18} And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

Romans
{1:3} Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; {1:4} And declared [to be] the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: {1:5} By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: {1:6} Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

Rev
{14:12} Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

The faith and the gospel of God by Jesus Christ is obeyed by keeping His commandments. Any faith and gospel with 'advised' good works for a show of faith, is man's own religion alone.

Some Christians even preach 'showing their faith' as only being a sign for man to see their faith, not for God to see and judge us by.

Matthew
{23:5} But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Today in many arenas of religion, politics, and social acceptance, it's called 'virtue signalling'.

I noted a discrepancy.
Accurate corrections I love. It makes the teaching more perfect.

I'll also take your bypass of the argument, as silent consent.

Even as being saved with faith, means being saved by faith, then also being saved with works, means being saved by works. Else, with faith does not always mean by faith.

The only consistent gospel of being saved by faith alone, not by works, must be always by faith alone, and never with any works at all.

The phony gospel of being saved by faith alone, is trying to also include salvation with works down the road. It's not at all a gospel of faith alone, but rather one of faith with continued sinful works, along with more good works than before.

Faithfulness is just another word for works.
Ok. Even as works is God's word for faith.

James
{2:17} Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Since you agree faith begets faithfulness
Even as obeying begets obedience. The more we do a good thing, the more easily we continue doing it.

Disobedience ends any growth of obedience.

1 John
{2:1} My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

and faithlessness is a problem
It's the killer, that must be forgiven, before being restored to the faith of God.

"The gospel of being saved by faith, not by works, contradicts the supplemental teaching of being saved with works following," needs some minor amendment(s). To the degree faithfulness is synonymous with works that sentence would read, "The gospel of being saved by faith, not by faithfulness, contradicts the supplemental teaching of being saved with faithfulness following,"
Ok. For now I'll accept the distinction, that is without a difference.

However, if 'faithfulness' is ever taught to be independent of works, then I reject it as much as God does faith alone.

Dittoes for being 'with' faithfulness' canot be 'by' faithfulness.

And that also includes any word sophistry about 'faithfulness'. There is only one definition for the word faithfulness with God:

Rev {3:14} And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

With God, there is no other acceptable defintion of being faithful, which is always with and by works obedient to the Lord.

Any other form of 'faithfulness' without works, and especially with disobedient works, is as another form of godliness without living godly, and especially with doing ungodliness.

{3:4} Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; {3:5} Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. {3:6} For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

P.s. these things are done by play of words, and philosophic questions, that only lead to more ungodliness in the form of 'faithfulness' to religion.
On the other hand, if you truly meant to say salvation with faithfulness is contradictory to salvation by faith and not by works
No, not at all. So long as you are rightly teaching faithfulness as works, then no problem.

then please confirm that for me and I'll take up that conversation with you because I believe that view is incorrect.
Ok. Just remember the previous caveat.

Doesn't faith produce works?
With God faith is works, and vica versa.

It's why He judges us and our faith by our works, whether unto justification and life, or unto condemantion and shame.

People can try to distance their faith from their own works in this life, but that all ends in the grave.

And even in this life, responsible children and adults know it's just foolishness.

James
{2:18} Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Like the 'Show me' state of Missouri.

No, not at all.
Then the op is incorrect.

In debate circles, this is called making an accusation before the fact, or by inference. Accsusing someone of reacting certain ways, by warning them not to.

It's also a tool of rhetoric, that is used to at least make people think they are being taken serious enough to react emotionally.

Then the op is incorrect.
Then the impending word play and sophistry was exposed beforehand.

Like the saying goes, "I know them like the back of my hand."
What I truly love about God's words written down beforehand, is that He always exposes every false argument, before they're even made.
Rev {3:14} And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
Faith is works, and faithfulness is continued works.

Hebrews
{13:7} Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of [their] conversation. {13:8} Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
{13:8} Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

We see here how that following a person's example, is following their faith. Which is by their example of works, not their ideas and words only.

John
{13:15} For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you

2 Peter
{2:21} For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

James
{5:10} Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

1 Tim
{4:11} These things command and teach. {4:12} Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Example of faith with God, is example of works we do.

In a sense you're telling me it's out works that save us...which I disagree 100%.

The best I can do that is in line with your thoughts is that faith produces works. If you claim faith but don't have the works that demonstrate you are probably not saved.

In a sense you're telling me it's out works that save us...which I disagree 100%.
It's works that justify us. James implies it's works that also save us, by asking if faith alone without works can save a soul.

No.

And the only works that justify a soul with God, is works done by the Spirit of Christ and through the faith of Jesus.

No other works of man's own will, power, and faith can save nor justify a man with God.

The best I can do that is in line with your thoughts is that faith produces works. If you claim faith but don't have the works that demonstrate you are probably not saved.
And so, you judge salvation by works produced. As the teaching confirms: Once being saved must be with works, then justification must be by works.

1 Kings
{8:32} Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

Very few people actually teach saving faith alone, and not with any works at all.

Most people teach a lukewarm version between pure and filthy religion. They don't preach salvation must produce good works at all times, nor that their faith never need produce any works. They preach a gospel of faith that must produce at least some good works.

The gospel of saving faith with good works produced at some point, is a religion of faith with sinful works. It's never without works at all, since the bad works continue without cessation.

I.e. we keep on sinning with our faith, but now we're saved sinners by our faith. We're not saved by faith without works, but saved by faith with sinful works.

It's the gospel of man's religion to do both good and evil. And the judgment of being saved, is not by doing good at all times, but only by doing more good and less evil than before.

It's works that justify us. James implies it's works that also save us, by asking if faith alone without works can save a soul.
Then I strongly suggest you hop to it....get busy.

It's why Paul condemns playing word games with the gospel and doctrine of Christ, because it only produces endless useless arguments over words, rather than promoting godly living;

1Pe 1:18

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

Word games.

Faith results in Works, but the "Works" aren't salvific. they're only the result of the Faith, and there's 1 Cor 3:15. THE MESSAGE of James is that you can tell whether you've GOT FAITH, or nothing but "belief" by whether or not what you call FAITH results in good works.
