Back in the '50's, my family would take a road trip to my grandfather's farm 122 miles from our home, across the flatlands of western Kansas, through the Gypsum Hills with it canyons, and gullies, and grassland. Along the way, usually just a few miles from a small town, these signs placed by Burma Shave would appear. "Jesus Saves"

Once my father laughed and ask, "Saved from what?" Which his children found very amusing.

However, it is a question I believe many Christians could not answer, because they have never really thought about it. Of course we know that He died for the forgiveness of our sins. But has the idea of a benevolent God that is presented, caused us to not see what exactly we have been saved from?

The truth of the matter is, we are saved from God.

The idea of saved is applied to different things in the Bible, but it always refers to being rescued from a dire situation, a catastrophe in the making. And there is no greater calamity than that which rests over the heads of all mankind, than the day of judgement by a holy God, in which His just wrath will be poured out. There is no escape when that happens, and no recovery from it.

Christ came to rescue a people from facing the wrath of God.

The amazing thing is, that God Himself is the one who saves us from His wrath. He sends His own Son in the likeness of men, to take that wrath upon Himself, standing in their place. Our sin meets the justice of God, making satisfaction for what we deserve, on the cross. Making atonement for us with the sacrifice of His body, the shedding of His blood. And rising again from the grave, to return to the Father, where He intercedes between God and them. The mediator of the New Covenant.

Believe on the Lord Jesus, and be rescued from the wrath of God.

SAVED FROM WHAT?

You aswered it....
God Himself is the one who saves us from His wrath.

Does a potential parent's decision to not have children also, at times, "save from God's wrath" those children given that "narrow is the way"?

Aside: Granted, God is the First Cause of all things
Aside2: My son once said that was a reason he didn't want kids ... because there was a chance said kid(s) would end up in hell.

Oh, that is a tough one! Don't know that I am equipped to tackle it. I will ponder it a bit before I try.

No. There is also the "chance" from a human perspective, that they will be children of God. It is an understandable reason, but not a theological reason to not have children. The question posed has an answer, but it can't be found by searching our minds or the word of God. He doesn't tell us.
