Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Does Jesus tell us to love our neighbor in that way?
He does not.

There is nothing good in the eyes of God about going to hell for someone else.
And if it is not good in the eyes of God, since it is contrary to what he has ordained, then it is not good at all.

Enough with the foolish speculations of man outside the order of God!

Good is what God says it is. . .not what man thinks it would be.

Jesus did.

We are to follow in His shoes.

While we can't offer our eternal state, we offer the life we have in love of God first and foremost and neighbor second.

It's not going to hell but it's definitely standing against the gates of hell in order to protect othera, and bring the lost to the knowledge of the Lord and Savior.

So while the question, would you go to hell for someone, is in itself speculation, it's not merely vain speech as you might think, but rather serves to illuminate the state of the heart and meditate on the nature of God Himself, who placed Himself between His people and hell so we would be saved.

How could we love any less and still be called Christian?

As is noted earlier in the thread
Paul speculated, lamented actually
Rom 9: 3 "For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh

It is human to wish the best for other people but as Paul noted, "I could wish"
It is an idle speculation of man outside the order of God.
Is it an attempt to improve on God's order. . .because we see God's own order as capable of improvement?

Yes, God is Just. And God's order is perfection
Anyone who has a loved one who is hostile to God has a desire to have a loved one know, love and serve God, no matter the price

However if we are talking about reprobates we could rephrase the question into every day reality
Would I go to jail if 1,000,000 convicted felons could be freed?
It would make a hell of heaven, a heaven of hell, to paraphrase Milton
Have unrepentant reprobates who are hostile to God roaming around heaven?

Heaven is not an open border state.

I knew God was political!
