IMO I believe a big part of the problem in America is because of our soft laws in this country. The penalties for many crimes are like a slap on the back of the hand. It also seems a lot of punishment is based on deterrence and rehabilitation, which is ultimately inhumane.
C. S. Lewis said,
the elimination of restitution and retribution converts the offender into an object to be manipulated rather than a person responsible for wrongdoing.

And honestly, for the criminal's own good, he or she must feel the weight of God's preliminary punishment. He or she must be reminded of the more ultimate consequence of crime when God's last judgment comes.

The world has made it so people not only get away with so much, but don't feel the seriousness of the crime

Deuteronomy 19:16-20
16 If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
17 Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
19 Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.

It would greatly reduce the false charges of rape, theft, murder, etc., if we adhered to what v,19 teaches.

Indeed!

We in this country are really very soft on crime. Criminals have no fear of the law. And if they do end in prison, well, it's like a vacation to some.

Perhaps it's taking the entire "innocent until found guilty" thing a little too far. Once you are found guilty then the boom needs to be lowered. Publicly. Hard.

Yes...of course there will be some who are found guilty who are not. That is always a danger. But if the judges and juries fear God then those mistakes will be very few and far between.

That's for sure. But even the best judges run a huge risk of becoming jaded, when they see the crime of one is not even prosecuted, or is hardly charged according to the seriousness of it, depending on who they are, but the misdeed of another is dealt with by a life-changing blow. Justice is hard to come by, lately, not only by the judges, but by the prosecution.

State authorities are "God's servant" according to Romans 13:4 for it is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a servant of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.

If you do what is evil, be afraid? Someone should remind criminals that they need to be afraid.

And, more so, someone needs to remind the authorities of their responsibilities.

I wonder if this is part of God's judgment on this country. Not only in this country but in others as well. Things arent getting better.

The universal law of justice: You get what you deserve.

When you vote for politicians who are weak on crime then your reward is increased crime. If you are a victim of crime in this case then it's mostly your fault.

Why are politicians weak on crime? Because they believe in "equality." If you filter everything through the lens of equality then good is bad and bad is good. Hence, criminals are really victims.

Once people are infected with equality then there is no going back. Showering them with truthful information won't work because they filter it through the lens of equality which flips everything.
