Christianity 101

Really????????

How about we start with the Sermon On The Mount (Matt 5:1-7:29) I see
quite a few more than only two commandments in that portion of Jesus'
teachings. In point of fact, Jesus said that failure to comply with the
Sermon results in disaster. (Matt 7:26-27)

I didn't claim that the the Bible should be ignored. My point was simply that without following Jesus's two commandment, love God, love thy neighbor, nothing else makes sense.

In Matthew 7:26-27, Jesus is using an image of building a house on sand to convey a spiritual truth. It it a lesson about the importance of not only hearing or knowing His teachings but also actively applying them in one's life. Are Jesus's two commandments a house built on sand?

Are Jesus's two commandments a house built on sand?

Along with Christ's commandments contained in the Sermon On The Mount are
his commandments contained in the apostles' writings.

1Cor 14:37 . . If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him
acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the
lord.

1Thess 4:1-2 . .We beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the lord Jesus,
that as you have received of us how you ought to walk and to please God, so you
would abound more and more. For you know what commandments we gave you by
the lord Jesus.

According to the above; folks who refuse to study, and to comply, with Christ's
commandments as they are presented in the apostles' writings, are not walking as
they ought to walk, nor are they pleasing God.

I ran across a former Jehovah's Witness on YouTube recently who said something
very interesting, in so many words, that his use of the Bible in Kingdom Hall
meetings was mostly as a reference rather than a text book. When he began to
read the Bible systematically rather than cherry picking it in concert with
Watchtower materials, he discovered that many of the Society's ideas are actually
stretches of the imagination rather than truly biblical.

I brought that up because it has been my experience online that quite a few
Christians out there are convinced that Jesus' "two commandments" are all the
religion they'll ever need just as that former JW had been led to believe the
Watchtower Society's ideas were all the religion he'd ever need.

They are in the OT but only referred to indirectly in the NT. However, the two commandments of Jesus are a summary of the ten commandments not a replacement. Love for God, emphasizes our love of God while the remaining six deal with ethical and moral behavior towards others. By doing so Jesus simplified the moral code of the Ten Commandments while emphasizing the core values of love.
Really.
What are the two commandments and how do they save a person.....So, yes, really.
1. Love God. -- Why? We are accounted righteous before God, only for the merit of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by faith. I think all Christians believe Jesus died sacrificially and willingly, to free us from sin.

2. Love thy neighbor as thy self. Jesus encourages His believers to extend the same care, compassion, and goodwill to others that we naturally desire for ourselves.

The way I understand it is that w/o following His commandments we do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

NOTE: According to Titus 3:10-11, I'm only required to admonish heretics twice. After
that I'm allowed to put them on my ignore list.

You failed to explain how doing those things would gain one eternal life.

You failed to explain how doing those things would gain one eternal life.
Why do you love Jesus? Could it be due to Him giving his life for our sins and thus our salvation?

And if it is, wouldn't you want to imitate Jesus when when he tells us to love and God and to love our neighbors?

While the specific wording of the two greatest commandments is found in Matthew and Mark, the themes of love for God and love for one's neighbor are recurrent in the teachings of Jesus and the apostles throughout the New Testament.

For example: Luke 10:25-28, Romans 13:8-10 and Galatians 5:14 (NIV)

The term "RSVP" can't be found in the Bible; nevertheless its connotation is very
important in the overall plan of salvation; for example:

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take
my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and
you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matt
11:28-30)

Jesus statement requires a response, i.e. speak up and tell him you want that rest
about which he spoke.

Here's another:

"If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have
asked him and he would have given you living water." (John 4:10)

Again:

"On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If
anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the
Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. By this he
meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that
time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified."

And:

"The Spirit and the bride say: Come! And let him who hears say: Come!
Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of
the water of life." (Rev 22:17)

Go! Go! Go! Tell him you want in on that water! It's a freebee; so take it!

Here's a suggestion. If you've never spoken with Chrisit about anything before: find
some privacy, even a restroom stall will do. Cover your face with your hands. It will
give you a sense of connection. Then just say what's on your mind: under your
breath is okay. But however you choose to communicate with Heaven: get to it
while the offer is still on the table 'cause there's coming a day when it won't be.

2Cor 6:1-2 . . As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in
vain. For he says: In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I
helped you. I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation.

.......Show us how our following those 2 commandments brings us eternal life....I would say it's a product of salvation..not that which brings salvation.

If not then tell us how one is saved.

There are various Christian beliefs about salvation and beliefs which by their very nature can be right or wrong. Read the Bible, follow the two greatest commandments gave us, do your best to imitate Jesus and you will be fine regardless of what else the thousands of quarreling Christian denominations claim.

So, forget all of the beliefs...especially mine...and jump onboard the Frank Robert path to salvation????

Why would you need to give up your beliefs or to give keeping Jesus's commandments or to continue following Jesus to respect others who have different religious beliefs than you?

I would say salvation brings about "works"..."works" don't bring about salvation.
Amen, first comes the incorruptible born again seed (not seen) then come the branch out of the ground .
