A question on grace.

Sorry for misunderstanding you.

I claimed that becoming zealous for doing good works in obedience to God's law is the way to believe in Christ and his merits. I did not claim that non-believers work his/her way into belief.
Appreciate the clarification. Next question: Why do people who already believe need to believe what they already believe?

The way to believe in Christ is to completely trust him, the way to grow in Christ is obedience, two different operations.
God is trustworthy, therefore what He has instructed is therefore also trustworthy (Psalms 19:7), so the way to trust God is by obediently trusting in what he has instructed. In Proverbs 3:5-7, we have a choice between leaning on our own understanding of right and wrong by doing what is right in our own eyes or trusting in God with al of our heart to correct divide between right and wrong through obeying what He has instructed in all of our ways and he will make our way straight. In Matthew 23:23, Jesus said that faith is one of the weightier matters of the law, so trusting on what God has instructed is not a different operation than trusting in Him.

Appreciate the clarification. Next question: Why do people who already believe need to believe what they already believe?
We simply need to believe by becoming zealous for doing good works. In Proverbs 3:5-7, we have a choice between leaning on our own understanding of right and wrong by doing what is right in our own eyes or trusting in God with all of our heart to correctly correctly divide between right and wrong through what He has instructed in all of our ways and He will make our way straight. So that is what it means to trust in or believe in God, to a way to believe in addition to already believing.

Straw man.
I was making the point that trusting in what God has instructed is the way to trust God while you were arguing that it is two different operations, so that is not a straw man.
