Seems different people I talk with have different ideas of what evangelism is. So, the question of this thread is, "What is True Evangelism?"

Here are a couple definitions I looked up.

1: Google: True evangelism is the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ with the aim of persuading people to repent and believe, rooted in the power of the Holy Spirit and focused on sharing the good news of salvation and reconciliation through Christ.

2: Websters 1828: EVAN'GELISM, noun The promulgation of the gospel.

Here is something else interesting.
In the 1700s, evangelism underwent a significant transformation, particularly during the First Great Awakening, marked by a shift towards personal, emotional, and experiential religion, as well as the rise of new denominations like Methodists and Baptists.

So it looks like some things have happened to evangelism in the last few hundred years. I find it interesting to read the book of Acts and see what the Apostles did. Or even the early Christian churches before 1730.

I have spoken with others who said, evangelism is,
Going out into the streets and preaching the gospel to the lost.
It's going house to house.
Its missions.
and on and on.

Evangelism is the sharing of the "evangel" - the good news of Christ's victory over sin, death and the devil on the cross and his resurrection from the dead. This is the base line, of course many other things can also be included in evangelism, depending upon the audience.

Strong's Lexicon
euaggelistés: Evangelist
Original Word: εὐαγγελιστής
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: euaggelistés
Pronunciation: yoo-ang-ghel-is-TACE
Phonetic Spelling: (yoo-ang-ghel-is-tace')
Definition: Evangelist
Meaning: an evangelist, a missionary, bearer of good tidings.

Word Origin: Derived from the Greek word εὐαγγέλιον (euaggelion), meaning "good news" or "gospel."

Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries: While there is no direct Hebrew equivalent for "evangelist," the concept of proclaiming good news is present in the Hebrew Scriptures, such as in the role of a "messenger" (מַלְאָךְ, mal'akh) or "herald" (מְבַשֵּׂר, mevaser).

Usage: The term "euaggelistés" refers to a proclaimer of the gospel, one who announces the good news of Jesus Christ. In the New Testament, an evangelist is someone who is specifically gifted and called to spread the message of salvation through Christ. This role is distinct from that of apostles, prophets, pastors, and teachers, though it shares the common goal of edifying the body of Christ and expanding the Kingdom of God.

Cultural and Historical Background: In the early Christian church, evangelists played a crucial role in the spread of Christianity beyond the Jewish communities into the Gentile world. The term reflects the itinerant nature of their ministry, as they traveled to various regions to preach the gospel. The role of an evangelist was vital in the context of the Roman Empire, where diverse cultures and languages presented both challenges and opportunities for the dissemination of Christian teachings.

I think it's just being a living Christian. When you are, it shows and others can see some reflection of Christ in you.

I think this is the best way, just live and be around the lost enough that you might be able to share Christ with some in a positive manner.

I do think more people should be able to tell people more about their faith from Scripture. It was a benefit to have net someone who actually knew Scripture and could explain things better.

It's good to have knowledge.
