The Beatitudes

So the `meek inherit the earth,` is now you say. How does that work out?
Well, what do you understand as meek?
I think the worldly view of meek is, weak, cowardly, etc...
But that is not what Jesus is commending.
Consider Moses, Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth. Num 12:3.
So meek would be the gentleness of love, good manners, self-discipline, and mostly quietly trusting and submitting to God.

It seems this teaching from Jesus comes from Psalm 37.
V:11
But the meek shall inherit the land
and delight themselves in abundant peace.

Consider Psalm 37:1-8 and let me know what you think.

People like this are blessed by God. They possess the earth because they are satisfied with what God gives them while others are never happy with what they have but want more and more.

So the `meek inherit the earth,` is now you say. How does that work out?
We shouldn't pass over verse 4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

I believe this is very important, what do you believe this means?

`So the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness; sorrow and sighing shall flee away. "I, even I, am He who comforts you....` (Isa. 51: 11 & 12)

I see that the Lord was reminding the people of Israel about their future inheritance. (Matt. 5 etc)

Now I realise we have different views on this topic. However, could you please show scripturally why you see the Body of Christ`s inheritance is on the earth? I was never taught that and do not see it in scripture, but would like to hear how this view is shown in scripture.

One can ask the question, is the kingdom, future or present?

The answer to this is, Yes.

Luke 17:17-21

17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

20 Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, 21 nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”

I agree but also past.

PAST. The Lord`s rulership is - King of Glory, King of heaven, King of the Ages,

Then when He was manifest on earth Jesus was King of Israel. He declared His rule `at hand` and then showed His authority over demons, sickness, the elements, etc more than any earthly king.

Jesus taught that His rule (kingdom/rule of heaven) was righteous and that those who desired to come under His rule then their righteousness had to be more than the Pharisees. The Pharisees just kept the outward observance whereas God required the heart motivation to be right. (`but I say to you....` Matt. 5: 22 etc)

PRESENT. The Lord`s rulership as Head of the Body is in His people`s lives and over the whole Body to build and mature it by His Holy Spirit.

Although the Jews as a nation did not receive Jesus as their King it did not change the fact that He still is. Israel is under chastisement till the Lord reveals Himself to them.

The nations are not at present under the rule of the Lord but are being brought to His footstool by the Father for judgment. (Ps. 110: 1)

FUTURE. The nations of the world come under the Lord`s rule at the end of the tribulation. (Rev. 11: 15)

Israel will yet receive their King.

The Body of Christ is enthroned as Kingpriests with the Lord as the King (High) Priest on His own throne. (Rev. 3: 21)

Hi Carbon,

We read that Jesus had announced the kingdom of heaven as `at hand,`
He did better than that.

He said the kingdom of God is here now (Lk 11:20, Mt 12:28),
it is everlasting (Lk 1:33), never-ending (Da 2:44),
it is not of this world, earthly (Mt 18:36),
it is spiritual, hidden and within (Lk 17:20-21) the hearts where he reigns and rules.

It being everlasting (Lk 1:33) and never-ending (Da 2:44), there is no other kingdom of God.
