And so the great Influenza Diet is completed. Six days of being completely bed-ridden with a respiratory flu, unable to keep anything down other than water, which was promptly followed by three days of excruciating peptic ulcer pain from overdosing on ibuprofen (due to a near-migraine headache). Basically, ten days with no solid food, just water and bone broth—and a new appreciation for Tylenol (and Pepcid AC).
I ended up losing 20 pounds. My wife did, too. In just ten days. Definitely not healthy, that's for sure. Too much weight loss too quickly. Who knew there was an influenza diet? News to me.
Anyway, my family and I are fully recovered, finally. Today began the difficult but necessary task of restoring order to the home. Everything had ground to a halt for two weeks as this flu made its way through our family, one person after another. Dining room, kitchen, bathroom, living room, everything remained exactly where it had been put two weeks ago. Nothing had moved, although the mess had increased slightly, particularly dishes. Recovery had to include restoring order to this chaos.
First the kitchen (so we could start cooking solid food again), then the bathroom (which had become disgusting), followed by the dining and living rooms. I may have shed an additional five pounds through sweat.
It feels good for this family and home to finally return to normal functioning.
