You think Nicodemus was just trying to be funny with his question? That he really thought Jesus meant "born from above"? That doesn't make any sense irrespective of any dictionaries, Lexicons and Targums.
Besides, Peter apparently thought Jesus said "born again" (1 Peter 1:3, 23)
Thanks I would offer. .
Searching out why Jesus the Son of man prophesied words from the Father lovingly commanding him to marvel not at the greatest possible miracle sets the subject matter
Did the living, loving commandment as words from the Father (marvel not) have a efect on Nicodemus ?
John7:50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
Nicodemus went from trusting the god of lying signs to wonder after as false prophecy to the true prophecy the living abiding word of God . Like Paul as Saul once followed after the temporal things seen the pagan foundation "out of sight out of mind" or like I am from Missouri seeing is believing . . . not trusting in the eternal things of sola scriptura
