I want to mention one more thing about CS because it has invaded some of the more radical charismatic churches in a "Christian" form.
Malicious Mental Malpractice. Also known as animal magnetism back in the day. I remember my father speaking of it. It is one of those phrases that curdles my blood now. The idea behind it is that people can work against you mentally and affect your life, causing sickness or whatever trouble they want to cause you. In its positive form it can influence the life of another and bring healing of disease. In the negative form it is no different than saying one person can put a curse on another person. One must protect themselves against it by saying mantras such as, "God is love, God is good, there is nothing but good."
This idea is borrowed by the Kenneth Hagin branch of the charismatic church (may all of them, I can't say). It teaches that whatever troubles we are having can be the result of people or groups working against us in their prayers.
I encountered this teaching myself when I was a Charismatic, so I know whereof I speak.
Just as I know of Arminianism from having walked through it. And dispensationalism, form having walked through it. CS from having walked through it. That has to have been serving a purpose not just for me but for Christ's church, since God does not give what he gives to keep just for ourselves but for the good of the body perhaps even those who are yet to be joined to the Body. But whatever it is I guess it is going on behind the scenes so to speak, because I don't know what it is. I can see how it has been a great blessing to me to have walked all those paths.
