Quick summary of the story:

Gen 29:16, 23, 25, 30 [NKJV]
  • 16 Now Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder [was] Leah, and the name of the younger [was] Rachel. ...
  • 23 Now it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to Jacob; and he went in to her. ...
  • 25 So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it [was] Leah. And he said to Laban, "What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?" ...
  • 30 Then [Jacob] also went in to Rachel, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with Laban still another seven years.
[Hint, things did not go well for that family dynamic.]

Fast forward to Moses delivering the Law from God ...
  • Leviticus 18:18 [NKJV] 'Nor shall you take a woman as a rival to her sister, to uncover her nakedness while the other is alive.
Note that what Laban did (Jacob married two sisters) was later expressly forbidden by God ... in the same section of law that forbids marrying your sister or sleeping with an animal.

I just noticed that and filed it under "things that make you go 'HUH'!".

It's always been Illegal. When anyone does Good, they show the Law is Written on their Stoney heart. I think this also applied to those between Adam and Moses...
