We see what it says when man was created..
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

We see what Christ said to Philip when he asked to see God the Father..
John 14:9
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

So how was man created in image made to resemble God.

How are we made in the Image of God?

We're not. Adam and Eve were created in the "image of God".
Men are in the flesh and by nature sons of Satan unless God regenerates them. Even after regeneration the conflict continues:

17 For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery

Canons of Dordt
Man was originally formed after the image of God. His understanding was adorned with a true and saving knowledge of his Creator, and of spiritual things; his heart and will were upright, all his affections pure, and the whole Man was holy; but revolting from God by the instigation of the devil, and abusing the freedom of his own will, he forfeited these excellent gifts, and on the contrary entailed on himself blindness of mind, horrible darkness, vanity, and perverseness of judgment; became wicked, rebellious, and obdurate in heart and will, and impure in [all] his affections. Therefore all men are conceived in sin, and are by nature children of wrath, incapable of any saving good, prone to evil, dead in sin, and in bondage thereto; and, without the regenerating grace of the Holy Spirit, they are neither able nor willing to return to God, to reform the depravity of their nature, nor to dispose themselves to reformation.

I would agree that the image has been spoiled since the Fall. However, I don't agree that people since Adam and Eve do not bear God's image at all. Otherwise that would make nonsense of God's reason for murder being sinful:

““Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.” (Ge 9:6 NKJV)

The Hebrew word “yada” refers to intimate knowledge gained by experience, such as with Genesis 4:1, where Adam knew (yada) Eve, she conceived, and gave birth to Cain. God’s way is the way to know (yada) Him and Jesus by experiencing being in His likeness through being a doer of His character traits, which is the way to eternal life (John 17:3). For example, Genesis 18:19, God knew (yada) Abraham that he would teach his children and those of His household to walk in His way by being a doer of righteousness and justice that the Lord might bring to him all that He has promised. In Exodus 33:13, Moses wanted God to be gracious to him by teaching him to walk in His way that he and Israel might know (yada) Him, and in Matthew 7:23, Jesus said that he would tell those who are workers of lawlessness to depart from him because he never knew them, so the goal of the law is to teach us how to know (yada) God and Jesus, which is His gift of eternal life.

To know God is to know truth, which is the target that our lives were created to be aimed at. An arrow flies true when it hits its mark, our mark is to walk in God’s way by being, and God’s law is truth (Psalms 119:142) because it was graciously given to teach us how to walk in God’s way (1 Kings 2:1-3) while sin is missing the mark, sin is what is contrary to God’s character, and sin is the transgression of God’s law (1 John 3:4). The Spirit has the role of leading us in truth (John 16:13) and of leading us to obey God’s law (Ezekiel 36:26-27) because God’s character traits are the fruits of the Spirit. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact likeness of His character (Hebrews 1:3), which he embodied through his works by setting a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to God’s law, so he is the way, the truth, and the life, and the way to know the Father (John 14:6-11).

We embody what we believe to be true about God through our works, such as with James 2:18 saying that he would show his faith through his works, so everyone who is a doer of the same works as James believes in Jesus. In other words, the way to believe in God is by walking in His way. For example, by being a doer of good works in obedience to God’s law, we are letting our light shine by embodying His goodness, which is why our good works bring glory to Him (Matthew 5:14-16), and by embodying His goodness we are also expressing the belief that He is good. Likewise, the way to believe that God is a doer of justice is by embodying His likeness through being a doer of justice, the way to believe that God is holy is by being a doer of His instructions for how to be holy as He is holy, we are to be compassionate as God is compassionate, we are to be forgiving as God is forgiving, and so forth, and it by this faith alone that we attain the character traits of God and reveal His image to the world.
