Greetings,

Today I had to put down one of three dogs that we own.

It has always been my belief that animals do not have a soul and would not be in heaven.

I believe that I base that on that God has made man in His own image, so we have a soul.

Being there during the injection sparked some emotion towards that dog.

My wife is beside herself and I will leave it at that.

I may be the exception in many cases but I never treated a dog as a human as so many people do in this day.

My wife has gotten upset with me in the past because I treat the dogs, like dogs and not like children.

Anyhow, I understand growing fond of a pet can spark some feelings and emotions when one has to put down their pet.

I believe I have read that outside of America, especially in the Middle East, dogs are looked down upon, especially as house pets.

Does anyone here believe that animals have a soul and is there any Biblical basis for this?

Just some random thoughts going through my mind at the time.

Grace and peace to you.

I don't know about your pets, but mine do. Tulio the wonder dog was very soulful and I fully expect to see him on the other side of the pearly gates when I get there.

The life giving breath God breathed into the pile of earth dust to form a living being (soul) is said to be breathed into other animals. We do not so much as "have" a soul as we are a soul.

I have had 30 dogs in my life, usually multiple dogs at a time. Now I have one, a Dutch Shepherd, Boaz. I expect to see everyone of them come running to meet me when I reach Home. I firmly believe that each one was given to me by God and me to them by God. He cares for all his creatures and he made them for his own good pleasure and ours. Animals are mentioned in Isa 11 as being in the new creation. He isn't going to create new people to populate this new creation but populate it with the ones he redeems. Gen tells us that God breathed into Adam and he became a living soul. God is the only life giver. Wouldn't that mean that all life is a living soul?

Both of your replies are are changing my thought process on our pets.

I believe I needed to read these replies.

Thank you.
