Did you ever think that you met an angel?

Angels sometimes appear as ordinary men. It's probably almost impossible to prove, unless they actually reveal themselves to us. I'm not one to get mystical about anything, but angels are real and it is possible. Did you ever walk away from an ordinary encounter with someone and tell yourself, that person could have been an angel?

One time about twenty years ago, I was at a gas station at about four in the morning taking a family member to work. I stopped for gas. While I started filling the truck with gas, I noticed that there was this guy who was selling shirts. Just walking from car to car trying to sell a few dress shirts that he was holding on hangers. I had fifty bucks in my pocket. I gave the guy a twenty, and when he offered me one of the shirts, I told him thankyou, but no thanks, you keep it. I think that I even told him God bless you, but I don't remember for sure. He hugged me very tightly for a few moments, and then he walked away. I just remember feeling like something more was happening there but I couldn't put my finger on it. When people meet angels, they usually get something. This was the other way around, but I couldn't help feeling like I had just met an angel. To this day I can't explain why I felt that way. I still wonder.

It's the only time in my life that I felt that way. Did this ever happen to you?

I can only say that I've been aware of protection some times, both growing up in South America and up here in the States, and of God's help (here in the States) when I didn't even absolutely need it, that made me think it was probably an angel that did it. (He made something happen, for which I can think of no other reasonable explanation. It wasn't really a big deal—just something really really nice, when I was very tired, and did not want to deal with a problem.)

Another thing that comes to mind though, is that of how some people, particularly in places of power, whose demeanor and purposes and the force of their statements come across as simply evil. I remember the Terry Shiavo case, where the forces of "kindness" came across to me as a group of cackling witches committed to, and delighting in, the power of death directed at someone, worse than hyenas circling the wounded. I'm not calling any of them possessed, but there is all sorts of demonic activity and their use of willing humans we don't know much about.

The antithesis is also possible. While the person may be a real person, they may not be able to tell you why they hugged you, nor why it felt the way it did to them, too. Just be glad God is on the side of those who are IN CHRIST. If God be for us, who can be against us? The look on someone's face, when you gave them what they needed, is priceless. And THERE'S something to thank God for!

Nope, never happened to me.

I think much of the whole "angels among us" is the Holy Spirit in the children of God and the interaction with the world in the image of the Living God.

If the man with the shirts was of the elect then the good you did for him you also did for Christ, which might account for the feeling of it.

I remember that it was nighttime, and this was the kind of neighborhood that you don't want people who you don't know walking up to you for any reason, especially at night. The gas station worker was behind thick glass and a locked door. Taking cash through a box that slid from outside the glass to the inside. For some reason I had no anxiety at all when the man selling shirts approached me. I remember thinking that he was probably a drug addict, but that's when the Holy Spirit convicted me by reminding me that it's not job to worry about what happens on the other side of that interaction. Just be what you should be and leave the rest to God. I probably wouldn't have otherwise even given him money, but when the Holy Spirit convicts you, you act accordingly and error on the side of good.

Later on when I was driving, I was asking myself if maybe it was a test. I also wondered if the guy could have been a fallen angel. I wonder sometimes if I didn't brush up against death on that day. Anyway, strange, very strange. It's hard to put into words what it was really like.

I agree. Most, in fact.

For funzies, I Googled "Do angels take on human form in the Bible?"

Yes, according to the Bible, angels can and do appear in human form, often as men, to communicate with humans or test them.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Angels as Spirit Beings:
The Bible describes angels as spirit beings, not having a physical form in the same way humans do.

  • Appearance in Human Form:
Despite being spirit beings, angels can appear in human form, sometimes as men, to interact with and communicate with humans.
    • Genesis 18: God and two angels appeared to Abraham as men, and they ate a meal with him.

    • Hebrews 13:2: "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

    • Other instances: Angels have been described as appearing as men in other biblical passages, such as in Genesis 32, where an angel wrestled with Jacob.
  • Why they appear as humans:
Angels may appear in human form to communicate with humans, to test them, or to fulfill a specific purpose.

    Not always human:
While angels can appear as humans, they can also appear in other, non-human forms, or with a terrifying, other-worldly appearance.

I have mixed thoughts on this subject.

But I like what Spurgeon comments on Psalm 34:7

Psa 34:7 nasb The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them.

The angel of the Lord.” The covenant angel, the Lord Jesus, at the head of all the bands of heaven, surrounds with his army the dwellings of the saints. Like hosts entrenched so are the ministering spirits encamped around the Lord's chosen, to serve and succour, to defend and console them. “Encampeth round about them that fear him.” On every side the watch is kept by warriors of sleepless eyes, and the Captain of the host is one whose prowess none can resist. “And delivereth them.” We little know how many providential deliverances we owe to those unseen hands which are charged to bear us up lest we dash our foot against a stone.

Did you ever think that you met an angel?

Yes, my wife.
This made me think of "eyes of fire". That's how angels are sometimes described. I think wives can be described that way sometimes also.:p

Then my mind went to "Bill Cosby as himself". A recorded live show. He described how his kids wanted breakfast so he fed them chocolate cake. It had all the right ingredients, milk eggs, etc. His kids were singing songs. "Dad is great, beat, beat, gives us the chocolate cake". Then his wife come down the stairs. Eyes of fire. Google Bill Cosby as himself 'Chocolate Cake For Breakfast'. If you've never heard it, you'll laugh.
