2 Timothy 3:16; All Scripture is Good for Doctrine...

Shouldn't good Doctrine exist, since the Bible tells me so?

I love the Bible; but I love Systematic Theology too. When arguing with non Calvinists, they automatically go for, "That's just Theology, Man's word". How can we get Systematic Theology over?

Should we?

But surely to be good, doctrine must be based on Scripture, as the verse you partially quoted, together with the following verse, says:

(2Ti 3:16) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
(2Ti 3:17) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

So I fail to understand the thread title: "Can good doctrine be as good as Scripture?" Good doctrine is Scripture.

For instance, the Hypostatic Union is as Good as Scripture...

Systematic Theology is the orderly collecting, arranging, comparing, exhibiting and defending of all facts from any and every biblical source concerning God and His works.
None Systematic Theology is the UNorderly collecting, arranging, comparing, exhibiting and defending of all facts from any and every biblical source concerning God and His works.

 ... which method is superior ...

But surely the phrase, "hypostatic union", refers to the fact that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully Man a doctrine which is taught in Scripture, So it's not just "as good as Scrioture; it is Scripture.

Those who scoff at "Doctrine" and "Theology" maybe don't realize that they, too, have their own.

Nehemiah 8: "8 They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read."

It seems you get the intent of the OP. It has much to do with the Spiritual Gift of Teaching; it Is involved in Doctrine, which is Theology...

Therefore, Good Doctrine is as Good as Scripture. Modalism is a Bad Doctrine, even though people use Scripture to develop it. In this sense, Good Doctrine is better than Scripture; as @makesends insinuates; IE making it clear so that people can understand what's being read...

I still don't get the meaning of the op.
It's not an anti Sola Scrptura stance, but a pro Spiritual Gift of Teaching stance. Doctrine and Systematic Theology. Sola Scrptura is still the highest arbiter between Spiritual disputes; we'll always have to go to the Bible to determine which is better, the HU or Modalism. But once a Doctrine is established, it's as Good as Scripture...

When someone presents a Good Doctrine or Systematic Theology to Us, we don't need to ask, "Where's your Verse for that?"...

People will always have a Verse for their side; so we're at a stand still with them. Until a good Systematic Theology makes the difference...

THE LIST OF RULES...

1) This is the Private Debate Board; only the agreed upon Participants are invited to Debates occurring here, though Members can Start their own Debate Threads. Before a Debate starts, all Participants should acknowledge they've read these Rules. Topics should be clearly defined, and pertain to Calvinism's Doctrines; or closely related Topics. Pasting a Linked Sentence or small Paragraph is allowed. Theology is a Valid form of Argumentation, and will not be called Eisegesis. A Verbatim Verse is not needed to Score Points, though Prooftexts ARE Biblical and will be allowed in a Debate. We all should know our Bible; if your Opponent alludes to a Verse without giving you a Citation, claiming no Scripture was given is out of bounds. Do not Arbitrarily dismiss your Opponent's Position. Bald Assertions as Answers, are Fallacious; such as, 'All Calvinism is Hyper Calvinism'. Staying on Topic is necessary, and changing the Subject can be considered a Foul (IE changing a Topic from Unconditional Election to Unconditional Reprobation, etc). Fouls may also be called for Rudeness, long Posts, not answering questions, etc; anything your Moderator considers to be out of Order under these ten Rules...

Well, no, I didn't insinuate that. I quoted scripture to give an idea of the usefulness and even the need for good doctrine, and the source for good doctrine.

Or, good exegesis which is a step above simple good doctrine--at least, systematic theology (good or otherwise). Good exegesis is directly from Scripture. Systematic Theology is synthesis of Scriptural statements, subjects and themes. Not really the same thing.

Please forgive me...
No problem. If I had read it closer I would have seen that you said, "in that sense...", and not simply stating that I had insinuated something I had not.

I wrote those rules while a Moderator. I pasted that to show what I mean; Systematic Theology is not Eisegesis. If Exegesis is Good, so is the Doctrine which it develops...
Ah!

Exactly right.
